The best time to start buying Christmas gifts for people is the 26th of December. Not only are the prices marked down, but that gives is a whole year to find the right gift for the next Christmas.
Unless we know 100% for sure that someone wants these gifts, there are some gifts we should avoid buying just because they've been tainted with the reputation of being "too lazy"-- run-of-the mill underwear, socks, neck ties. Some people put cash or gift cards in this "lazy" category, but at least those will be used for sure.
Depending on what talents we have, we may even make a gift to give to another person. It could be a physical item, or it could be a digital work we make (or modify), or it could be of the performing arts variety like a dance or poetry reading.
