How POB changed my life a little

avatar

My first post on POB your unit was worth $0.097, 12% of the current value, and it had been 7 days since the community was born.

At the time I started to calculate how much I could get by doing some posts, because by joining Hive and Leo I was having an income of 50 BRL a month (approximately at today's rate of 10 dollars).

My first goal with POB at the time was to earn enough money to pay a $30 bill.

And here I am, paying the electricity bill, rent, condominium, some Brazilian taxes, internet, food, transport, pharmacy and still having POB left for me to increase the voting power of my @vempromundo.pob curator account.

Not even in the best scenarios of my life, I expected my 2021 would be that way.

25% of everything I can accumulate with POB is enough to pay my bills, and with that I can allocate 75% to increase the stake, so my vote doesn't devalue too much over the days.

I see that it's dropping by the day, but I also see that many below me are growing faster than mine, which is amazing because then we'll have a lot of strong users representing the community and not just 6 or 7 defining the direction of rewards.

I am very happy with the repercussions of my free engagement lottery and the result it is bringing to small users. I made a post with the statistics for the first week, there is still a lot of information missing, but I hope to be able to bring more in the coming weeks.

This community has changed my life a little, and as far as I can tell, it's going to change even more. I saw a post of people getting a better cell phone to interact on the platform, others being able to change cars. My goal of paying my bills and living off POB is happening. If you also have one, don't give up, it can happen.

POB has been really good to you. Great to see a token transforms one's life in a matter of months. And to think the best is yet to come

Exciting times it has also been for me also within a month. Also got a phone change after the previous one got damaged.

This is pretty rich @vempromundo.

My headspace has been pretty occupied with other things as of late (things I felt were more important to address), but you've just been quietly gliding along off the radar.

It blows my mind how narrow-minded some people become when greed and money start to become involved (even to the smallest degree). It's a real shame.

It doesn't take a professional detective to look into https://hivestats.io/@vempromundo.pob over the past week and see what kind of abuse is going on here under everyone's noses (well those who aren't paying attention).

Why on earth has nobody else been shouting this from the rooftops? Do you all look like this?

I personally take it as an insult that no one else values this platform for what it's set out to be and hasn't got the cojones to speak up.

@onealfa I don't play favourites, but there is only so much time in the day. Hope this gives some perspective.

I don't think that taking part of the income to pay the basic bills and keeping the rest on the platform is greed. But I respect your opinion.

About silently getting off the radar, I also believe that I didn't do it silently, after all, with every new move I make, I explain in a new post, it's always been like that. Maybe it goes unnoticed because you were a little solving things that were more important to you and with that you ended up not noticing.

From the first day on the platform I always said that I would mainly support Brazilian users, just as Venezuelans support Venezuelan users, a matter of survival, we do not live in a first world country, we have one of the largest tax burdens in the world, and at any time the government can fuck us. If you knew what the world is like below the equator, maybe you would understand people's needs differently, and you could see that it's not about greed.

If you had also noticed, you would see that at the end of my posts there is no longer the curation banner or the trail link, and how much I focused on the Daily Engagement Lottery, and how much more it is giving much more POB to small accounts and generating much more engagement than the previous contest I ran.

What amazes me is that on the one hand you say:

Fuck off man. Who are you to tell people what they can and can't do on this platform?
Calumam

POB is for whatever freedom of expression you decide. Don't let people put you in a box.
Calumam

And then he contradicts himself by putting me in a box saying I'm greedy

I have my doubts about what small users who participate in the Lottery think:

  • if I'm a greedy son of a bitch for voting for me to pay my bills and thus be able to devote more time to POB and consequently reward them

or

  • if I should stop dedicating myself so much to pob, end the lottery, stop giving PowerUp, withdraw all the rewards I receive, and not give any importance to the community

I believe the first option is much less harmful.

Sorry if my crime is not having money and a job to keep me active in the POB without having to give me a vote of my own. If I did that with bad content ok, but generally my posts have more than 5,000 characters always looking to say something interesting, not just vote on 3 or 4 paragraph posts.

And sorry if my crime is not having a sponsor routinely delegate me more than 10k POB so I don't have to worry about increasing my PowerUp like you do, unfortunately I don't, otherwise I'd be fine donating net POB to everyone, after all I'd know that in another week the sponsor would again make me a new POB delegation.

I can't believe I'm doing so bad for the community, after reading so much praise from users who are routinely participating in the engagement lottery, I believe my credibility has been called into question by your innuendos and I would really like to hear from users who they're getting rewarded from my vote, and that if they think I'm doing it wrong, I might as well change the way I do it.

That way I would like to know from them, if they prefer me to continue doing what I'm doing, or if I stop directing my rewards to stake and end here the reward initiatives in small accounts and focus only on writing, or if I should continue what am I doing.

Give me your opinions: @fireguardian, @wiseagent, @paulo.sar, @tfranzini, @hranhuk, @jsantana, @aiuna, @thomashnblum @ralexandria, @absolutfreedom, @marvinix, @corporateay, @nonsowrites, @daniky , @offgridelife, @hivecoffee, @bitcoinflood, @mineopoly, @gungunkrishu, @gimmetricks1, @pialejoana, @failingforwards, @interpretation, @savagetobi, @rentmoney, @jersteemit, @riandeuk, @thatcryptodave, @sheila, @flex zellypearl, @blezyn, @coffeelovers

I have marked above people who are always getting rewarded for engaging in the lottery, Brazilians and @marvinix friends who are always trying to cast a vote on those who post through #PobDailyChallenge.

And I believe I can end my comment by paraphrasing a phrase from @calumam in his last post

POB will be whatever the community wants it to be. Not because some wet wipe with a large stake decides what is and isn't acceptable. Be who you want to be, and tell them to fuck right off.

Fuck off man. Who are you to tell people what they can and can't do on this platform?

POB is for whatever freedom of expression you decide. Don't let people put you in a box.

Me deem suas opiniões: @fireguardian, @wiseagent, @paulo.sar, @tfranzini, @hranhuk, @jsantana, @aiuna, @thomashnblum @ralexandria, @absolutfreedom, @marvinix, @corporateay, @nonsowrites, @daniky, @offgridelife, @hivecoffee, @bitcoinflood, @mineopoly, @gungunkrishu, @gimmetricks1, @pialejoana, @failingforwards, @interpretation, @savagetobi, @rentmoney, @jersteemit, @riandeuk, @thatcryptodave, @sheila23, @flexyg, @zellypearl, @blezyn, @coffeelovers

My perspective on the matter is narrow as well then, I guess.

I've been looking at each larger stakeholder and expecting the responsibility of platform-wide distribution and not just to a select number of people. With a more abstract look at this, I can see that each larger stakeholder is adding to the distribution in their own way. My assumptions about what is right and wrong are blinding me from the different acts for distribution.

Emotions have been up and down over the past few days. Seems like I need some breathing room.

I still feel like there is room for improvement with this and some discussion should be raised about what kind of actions are seen as abusive to the platform overall in terms of voting within close-knit circles.

The advice I'd been given from @finguru and @allcapsonezero recently has gone in one ear and out the other.

And fair play, I respect the check, and the opportunity to reflect on myself. Got to swallow my pride and admit that I was exceptionally hypocritical there with regards to the last quoted text.

Trying to keep everything in order on POB is a full time job that pays worse than just being on the platform, but it is needed.

We need people to keep things from getting out of control and I appreciate that you are taking on that responsibility @calumam, but it really is a double edged sword to try and do something about it. I do hope that as a community, we can keep scammers out with organization and discussion... and downvotes if it comes to it... but it needs to be cut and dry, cause stakers will vote how they vote and writers will write what they write. The tokens will distribute... whales gonna whale and minnows gonna minnow...

I am not sure if you remember @haejin and how he did 10 low effort posts / day and got support (100% upvotes) from a mega whale... aka, megawhale upvoting themselves 10 times a day at 100%. There was discussion, then organization, then downvotes and he eventually stopped.

I have been supporting @vempromundo's trail as well as yours as you both seem to care about POB and the longevity of the platform. I have also placed a lot of faith in both of you as I just don't have a lot of time to be a steward of this platform... I can only bring my perspective and hopefully shed some light on things.

I know the platform is in good hands as @calumam exhibited extreme humility right here and this exchange seemed to cause growth understanding and respect... which are all good things. POB for the win!

but it really is a double edged sword to try and do something about it.

Very true, I'm realising, lol. It is a great learning opportunity though when you look into the face of it and allow yourself to learn regardless of the outcome. I hope that the exchange gave @vempromundo the opportunity to learn and expand their mind.

There is definitely greater abuse to come here on POB, we'd be naive to assume otherwise. Let's just keep our eyes peeled.

I can only bring my perspective and hopefully shed some light on things.

Always appreciated, keep it coming.

Well, I can say that in my recent posts, the biggest votes have been coming from the Brazilian community (including @vempromundo), and one or two profiles I managed to connect through the platform, and I've seen this happen with other profiles that have much higher quality and consistency than mine too.

And even with all this effort, most posts have been at most around 30 POBS (which in the end ends around 15).

Meanwhile, I also see posts without originality, without soul, without following rules, receiving votes (including from the official account) with values that pass the values of posts from people who produce daily, following the rules and generating real value for the community.

I intend to talk more about this in the coming days, but it's disheartening to see this happening because it indicates that in the long term the balance will tend to one side only, to benefit those who only make one style of posts, posts that appeal to whales, even if whether weak or soulless posts, but which receive good votes because they deal with biased and controversial topics. In the long term it's seem's that there is no room for variety on the platform, and hardly other people with other tastes and interests can thrive here.

I don't want to talk anymore because I'm going to end up delivering most of a post I want to do, but in summary, that's my vision.

And I would like to say that while in other countries with a stronger currency a POB has a small value and I even understand that people need to receive bigger votes, for us each POB is worth a lot, which means that we do not need to take so many POBs off the platform to live with dignity (except for people who have big debts and such), 500 pobs (what some profiles earn with 2 or 3 posts without following rules) for us is enough to pay most of the bills, that is, if we get about 1000 POB's monthly (around 30 posts with an average of 60 POB's reward), at least 50% will be staked. I have some suggestions to change this scenario for the better, but I am testing some waters here, and I'm not finding the bottom or calm weather so, maybe I will not talk about them...

I hope that this comment receives a "free speech" card, as some posts around here, and that at least expressing myself as I expressed now won't harm me (but if it harms too, ok).

In this I agree with you, that many publications see the top ... but honestly I see them untidy both in order and content. It's in bad taste, but that's where my thought comes in: Maybe different tastes! Sometimes I think it's a way of turning a blind eye. But what can I do ? And well, the curation by specific communities, I don't like it. I am Venezuelan and it does not mean that I will vote only for Venezuelans. If I give a positive vote it is because I like the content. I believe that there, we must be more partial. Thank you, I hope to see your publication dealing with the subject more thoroughly. Greetings.

I think I need to work more and focus more on the ability to notice the possible "craps" that will occur beforehand. About that I would not opine. But as I marked my name I will say simple and clear: I wrote a post these days ago. Which speaks exactly to the question I believe @calumam means. As I've seen in other posts by HIVE in general, many people contradict themselves in what they post and what they do. But, everyone does what they want with their earnings. It is your right. There is no place saying and prohibiting as law. But be careful with the way you write and pass your posts. There are a lot of people reading and watching and analyzing. This has to be remembered always. Even more here at POB that people like these things.

  • Seja mais consistente - e ainda mais transparente - nas postagens sobre curadoria (porque isso evita que novos mal-entendidos aconteçam novamente);

  • Mude o foco sobre ajudar somente brasileiros ou venezuelanos (eu particularmente acho um propósito excelente, mas certamente não deve ser tão bem visto pelo restante da comunidade);

  • Ideias mais sólidas para criar engajamento de maneira mais orgânica e com isso, aumentar ainda mais o seu poder de curadoria (não acho que isso vem funcionando com a "loteria", porque não me parece haver um propósito funcional ali... além de um simples sorteio nenhum foco mais preciso);

Well, I haven't been really active here in the past few days, just checking here and there to understand all that's going on. Since you tagged me here, I'll put forward some words:

I'm thankful that you were the one who told me about POB and allowed me to get here in the first month, so now I have a considerable stake. And also because I was early on I could get a delegation from POB, as you got the delegation from leprechaun. So we both were fortunate to have that.

In terms of your actions here, since you ask, I think sometimes they are shady, sometimes they look like you are giving to the tribe but getting much more back. I didn't see what Calumam pointed out (I never get this hiveblocks, hivestats, so on) but my feeling is that you have one side here that everyone can see and one side that only others get to see. As I told you in our talk, the lottery was a risky ideia, maybe you are getting more than you are giving back. Overall I think you are a really smart guy, but not as smart as everyone else.

  • Eu retiro 12.63% e mantenho 87.37% pra comunidade.

It is great to see POB helping to add value to lives.

With the lottery talk I think you need to be more transparent to avoid some misunderstanding.

In my opinion taking part of you earnings is not greed because we all have different situations and different needs.

What exactly is the accusation, abuse in general is quite hard to judge. Not sure I fall in the 'people who always get rewarded' category. Participated once or twice I think did I win?

Pc is bricked so I'm not as active at the moment. Mobile only.. i do like the lottery and as long as you're being transparent and honest with it I don't see any problem. Did you break any rules? Are there specific rules? And if so why is it possible to break them or still be abusive?

Hello @vempromundo! It's really nice to see how life can change. I understand you perfectly, the cryptocurrencies generated in conjunction with my work as a content creator have changed my life. I remember very well that in 2016 and early 2017 I didn't even have enough to eat, even less to dress. Really, a lot of things happened in my life that I couldn't fix, because I just didn't have money. After I met Steemit, then I worked with Steemhunt, then Hive and now POB; I can say that my life has changed for the better. Everything was a process of change, but positive. I do not know if they have been twists of luck or consequences of my daily work, or of my pleas. But everything looks better now. Believe me, it is not easy to admit my bad conditions of years ago, I could not buy a pair of shoes ... Instead, today I can pay for food, if I want to buy a pair of shoes, I plan and do it. I am not in a hole like I used to be (financially speaking). I feel happy and blessed. It is difficult for other people to see this if they have not experienced it. It is a feeling of tranquility, it is not thinking all night long that the next day you will not have to eat and you do not even know how you will say that to your son (in my case, I only had Carlos, my oldest son). Just a sad picture. At present, I have stacked POB, daily I dedicate myself to voting the publications that I like and I see great sense. I also extract coins if I need to cover main needs such as: food, medicine or any payment of the house fee. Today, for example, I made two movements: one was a withdrawal of $ 90, where $ 40 is for the payment of the monthly fee for the Internet service. The other 50 $ I will use to buy food and some supplies for my recipes (I write daily about cooking). The other movement was to stack POB coins, thus increasing my voting power, the stack was: $ 102. Perhaps for some it is little, but honestly for me it is an important amount. Sorry for the length of the comment! Keep up the good work, remember that everything is transparent!

I invite you to take a deep breath ... Be more positive and flexible, let's have peace.

Do your thing, sell as much POB as you want it is your rewards to do with as you please. I think that it is awesome that you could live off of your rewards and feel that you have contributed a lot to this community and don’t have to explain yourself to nobody.

Good for you. I'm glad you're doing well. It spells hope that I may also be able to profit from my interactions here.

Your post is upvoted and promoted, but not because of the content. I have promoted this post and will continue to do so, because of the engagement within it. It serves as a model example of how people should communicate. I would reblog this 1000 times if I could.

A problem in this tribe, honestly like any other, is communication. We're in different parts of the globe, time zones, and schedules. We coordinate with differing mindsets and objectives to reach synergy to a degree. Unless you're someone like @AMR, you can't just data mine information by thinking of it in your head. I would seriously consider making an AMR coin if he could actually do just that. My point is to say that he's really good at it, but I'm not.

If I could change one thing in the engagement is the accusation. If you accuse someone publicly of something, please explain and provide snapshots. We're all here to learn to some degree. Shadiness is like beauty and, unfortunately, something that will always be in the eye of the beholder.

@calumam and @vempromundo your conversation, as well as everyone else's, was epic and professional. We need to all learn from the tact here as much as we learned from the two of you now.

Thank you for the words, in fact everything that was said here is of great importance for us to learn from.

The most important thing about all of this is that even if @calumam and I disagree or agree on points, we want the community to grow. People crossing the sea using an oar or an engine will reach their destination in the same way, even though they disagree on which method they will use.

And I hope whenever I'm failing at some point to be warned about it. And Calumam has always been willing to alert not only me, but any other user of the platform, and this is what I admire about it.

I see a good future for POB in 2021, everyone is looking for ways to make it grow, whether it's inviting new people, bringing investment, developing, producing content, and many more.

Each one is looking for a way, and I believe that we are better than in the past, and this I think is an important point, we may stumble, but if in the future we are better than in the past, the path will be at the right destination.

Since my post yesterday I have raised a white flag in this area, and I believe it will not be necessary to remove it.

The quest now is to spread positivity, and POB.

There are several ways, I'll recommend a few:

  • Create content

Create original posts through the proofofbrain front-end (ie, through the website) using the proofofbrain tag.
With that, people will have the opportunity to vote for your publication and with that you will receive rewards.

  • Engagement

User @amr008 has a project that rewards users who interacted the most during the day in the community. He developed an algorithm that detects everyone who commented during the week in publications. And it qualifies them according to the quantity and quality of the comments that the user made. Ranks the 50 most engaged accounts with the community and rewards them with one vote. If you are someone who interacts a lot with other users you will certainly have a good reward at the end of the day.

  • PobTalk

Every day on the @vempromundo.pob profile there is a new post for users to interact with each other and get to know each other. At the end of the day, 3 users among those who interacted in that publication are drawn and receive a reward. Check out today's post, you might like it, just click here

  • Contests

There are several contests you can participate in, each with its own rules, and the shortest duration for posts is PobDaily. Unlike PobTalk, which rewards comments from that post, PobDaily seeks to reward posts about your day, where you can tell about what happened. @marvinix can help you better with how awards work.
