Give a Man a Fish, And You Feed Him For a Day...

I like that quote very much... I mean, the complete version that you see inside the image...

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.

I know a lot of people who know this quote... And a lot of them are really USING it in their life... But, I know just one man who literally used this quote... I mean, it wasn't with fishing, but it was close enough...

I have a neighbor who is in his late 60ies, and he lived all around the world... Born in a large family of 7-8 children, in a middle-class family... Left his home very early, and was finding his life and his way of leaving... He was playing guitar on the streets to get some money after that played in some cafes and restaurants...

In the end, he opened his own restaurant, then another one, and another one... Now, he is retired and he is living here in Spain with his wife... His children are now adults and have similar life "trajectory" like he had...

Now, he is trying to do good things for others... For unknown people that he met on the streets, on the Internet, or in a supermarket...

.:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:.

One of his ideas, that he had turned to reality, was to help people in need in a village in Africa... He had found a reliable person there and donated money to it, but with ONE condition...

The money will serve for buying a GOAT (yes, the animal) and giving it away to the families in need... Goat should give milk to the family for a long time, and take out one worry from their back... He had done that multiple times, with many people...

This isn't fiction, it's a real story... It's easy to quote things and I wanted to say that it's hard to do it... But, it isn't that hard... It just needs a bit of effort and taking action...

But, sometimes it's not all about the person who is teaching people fishing... The other side has to appreciate the act, and do their part of the deal...

.:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:.

I had interesting stories from my life on this topic... They aren't cool as the story of my neighbor, but still, it thought me a few things...

I was showing a social media platform to a friend... He already knew how to create content, and how important is content creation in general... But, every platform has its' tweaks and peculiar things how it work... Speaking of which, if you want to "recognize" what platform will do well in the future, you should search for the "odd ones"... Those that are different, that have these "special features"...

So, I have explained to him how it works, and what should he do... Step by step, as the "method" was proven to work... And it worked, and it still works...

But, he didn't listen and he went his own way... Trying to push his content like on any other platform... After some time, he quit as there were no results... Of course, after a negative experience because of "not understanding" the platform, negative comments and complaints are the next things to come...

.:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:.

It's interesting that things in life usually come in pairs... For dance, you need two people, to learn something, you have to listen to another person... To make things work, you have to take an action...

If you ask others to help, at least you can listen to them... That's already a huge step forward... a newly opened door...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

What a great post! Like you, I always liked this saying & it really resonates in my life as well....

I do appreciate "gifts" and nice deeds people might do for me in life, but the REAL reward for me is to learn how to do it or the lesson from such an act. I notice I tend to appreciate it more & for a longer period of time, rather than just for a fleeting moment...

And YES, you have addressed a very good point... when one takes the time to show us HOW to do something, the least we can do is LISTEN. Sometimes, we can talk too much & not listen enough. Sometimes, implementing things can take time as well....so if someone is looking for a quick fix or overnight win, that isn't always realistic...

Thank you for talking about this. It got me thinking & will keep me be a little more mindful in my actions as well...keep up your awesome content! 💚🔥

Gifts are nice... but they are usually in form of a shiny object, and they are serving as a decoration on the bookshelf...

But, maybe I have overreacted with my post... There is a lot of noise around, and it's really hard to filter out what is important, and what isn't... That should be a kind-of excuse, but on the other side, if some friend is telling me something important, I will try to pay attention...

It's a complicated topic, obviously... lol...

I hope you introduced your neighbor to Hive. That guy sounds like an awesome person.

Teaching skills to others is important. But what may be even more important nowadays with the world wide web of information is the ability and will to teach yourself. For pretty much anything you need to do, there's a youtube tutorial on how to do it.

If more people "suffering" in poverty would understand this, their lives could be so much better.

He is a cool guy... Not that much focused on "tech" things, but definitely a very good person....

I agree that we can teach ourselves a lot of things through tutorials, YT videos, etc... But, if we have the Internet, and basic knowledge about it... Unfortunately, a lot of people don't have that and they need a "small push" from people like my neighbor...

Thanks for the !WINE

This is something I have read in my school. Give the man tools to work, he can earn bread from it.

That's the one! In different cultures, it's a different quote, but the point is the same...

I remember you wrote a post about people who are always right. We all carry a certain amount of this "quality" in us. We can try to help as much as we want to teach people how to fish. If the person that we teach to believes that he knows already everything and doesn't want to learn, then there is nothing that can be done. I believe that the willingness to learn from others, curiosity and openness are very important qualities in people. Not only can it lead to their success in live. They will simply be more interesting people, living more interesting lives...

Yeah... To have a party, you have to gather people... and they have to communicate, dance, listen to music... interact... And to let themselves enjoy themselves at the party...

That's the willingness that you have mentioned... to have a will to grow, to understand, and to listen...

That's what I always say- teach me to fish...(though I don't fish anymore since I once heard (20yrs ago) a fish scream in pain as I pulled the hook from his poor little mouth...and swear I saw tears in his eyes.) But I do love to learn and am always finding something to learn- which is one of the reasons why I love Hive so much...

Darn! I like fishing, but you are ruining my favorite (and the only) hobby that I have... lol... :)

And I agree that a lot of people that we can find in the comment section are here to learn something... It shows that they care, and it shows that they want to go to the next level...

Thanks for your time!

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.

This is a 100% practical quote taught in school and this completely applies to all of us. that man is doing great work and its true that not all of us apply this quote in life. Maybe we feel like its, not something we can do but as you mentioned that taking the first step is the biggest challenge and once we do that then things are not really thought. nice post Zoltan.

Thank you, Alok! It's easy to fill up the Facebook wall with quotes like this, but, as you said, implement it and do the first step can be a struggle... It shouldn't be like that, but it is...

Thanks once again! Have an awesome day!

Excellent quote brother, really wise one!
I can imagine that you was speaking about Hive, I've done the same with few friends and they leave really soon.

I have to admit the platform it's really "complex" and not everyone can substaine that, they want result immediatily, Life isn't like that and here same thing.

When you are able to deal the platform everything is easy, the real effort Is the begining, and that's the most difficult part!

Thanks for the shoutout on Twitter! For me this is a "trasiction" period because I will have soon a New Life in front of me, the begining is hard... after that
I will be cool and more present!

Thanks man, really appreciate this true piece of Life!🔝🙏🍻

Indeed... Life isn't like that... We have to work consistently to get results in a long run... It doesn't come overnight...

Appreciate your time, my friend! Thanks for passing by!
