Happy Birthday, Bitcoin

On January 3, 2009 the genesis block of the Bitcoin blockchain was mined by Satoshi Nakamoto.
When you read about this story, it sounds like something out of a history book.. but it’s still so close in our recent history and in our current day-to-day lives (as blockchain/Bitcoin fanatics) that it feels like you’re reading history in real-time.
The raw hex version of the genesis block looks like this:

“The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks”
The creation of Bitcoin was no accident. Unlike many of the alt coins that followed the creation of BTC, the Bitcoin blockchain wasn’t something that was just randomly spurred up for the sake of making a quick buck.
Bitcoin represented (and still represents) a new kind of money and social-economic contract. It brings about a new way to transfer, store and track value.
We can all imagine that Blockchain has evolved far beyond what Satoshi had in mind when he created Bitcoin. Perhaps they wanted to simply make something that caused regulators to rethink their actions.
Perhaps they wanted to create a new global currency to kill the rest. Or maybe just create a network for the people, by the people and let them take it from there.
I think it’s safe to say that we’re living in the last option. Bitcoin isn’t adopted by the mainstream.. far from it, actually. It is, however, a technology and a currency that has been adopted by thousands upon thousands of people on a global scale. New users are joining this technological revolution each and every day.
It’s a fascinating way to not only read history in real-time, but be able to make your mark on an immutable history as it is being written before our eyes.

It's amazing it's been only 11 years and yet the surface is just being scratch. I can't but help to think of Cryptos like circa 1995, internet. If you think about the evolution of the internet over 25 years and it's many iterations of evolution and the impact it has had on our lives, just wait another five years for Crypto to really take form.
100%... we're in the early days of the early days
Cryptocurrency is a technology and like all technologies, later versions improve upon the previous one.
We are going to see crypto 3.0, 4.0, and, someday 10.0.
It is wild to imagine what we will be doing.
Like blockchain pro?
Absolutely. If we look at what bitcoin was in 2009 or 2010 or 2011 and compare that to what crypto means today, the story has shifted to an entire revolution. Financial and otherwise
Interesting post @khaleelkazi, as I did not know the exact date of the genesis block. In doing my due diligence prior to choosing to begin investing in this asset class in August 2017, it was the idea of bitcoin as "virtual gold" that really captured my imagination. So, I enjoyed this "happy birthday" post.
We'll all find out how this story continues to unfold. I am firmly in the camp of those believing the genie can no longer be put back in the bottle. That is, Bitcoin and digital assets are here to stay. We are just in the still very early stages of finding out exactly how disruptive and transformational this legendary figure's idea will become.
P.S. I am an engineer and spent the first 20 years of my career in the mining industry and much of that in Nevada, during the modern day "gold rush" of the 1980s there ...
Digital assets have been the way of the future for a while, the rest of the world is just catching up. Fiat like the USD has already become a "digital asset"... or at least whatever hybrid beast you want to call fiat that has turned into a centrally controlled and manipulated piece of "value".
Bitcoin is proving that there is a better way to create a worldwide, distributed reserve currency that functions based on known protocols that we can all agree with.
