I Kick A Ball For The First Time In 5 Years, Grow Into A Minnow, & Win Satoshi On The Wheel Of Fortune!
Until yesterday, the last time I'd kicked a football was five years ago to the day.
Back in early August 2016 I was taking part in an "afternoon open" competition at the British Chess Championships in Bournemouth on the south coast of England. In the evening I took part in an "over 35s chess players v under 35s chess players" game of football in which I spent much of the time fishing the ball out of a stream that ran just behind our goal. Happily, we old-uns had a few skillful players and won the match.

So that was the last time I'd kicked a football until last night, when I took part in a two-hour session of footsal with a bunch of foreign and Japanese guys and gals. Three teams rotated through a series of five minute games for 90 minutes or so. It was as exhausting as I'd expected, but great fun. I guess I was the oldest and least fit geezer on the pitch; I was the only one to get hit by cramp or to need to be substituted!
On the other hand, my old defensive skills of "getting in the way" came in handy, and I had a good stint in goal, keeping a clean sheet in one game, including saving a bicycle kick and a bunch of other shots from a skillful attacker.
