Practice | Moving like water

Peace Steemians,

--

I just got back from a health check at the hospital...

While I was in the waiting area, I saw an old man looking through an English vocabulary book.

I could feel he wanted to speak with me, but he seemed shy...

So I sat down next to him and said, "Hey, are you learning English?"

Stop learning through translations

"Hey" is more casual and natural than "Hi," especially for men.

We spent the next 30 minutes talking, and he explained how he had been learning for years, but was still translating in his head before speaking.

He actually knew many difficult words, but was clearly struggling...

He'd say a few words, then stop and think. Then he'd speak again.

When he said he wanted to be a good speaker, I said he had to stop learning through translations (like the book he was reading).

And I also explained that he could speak more fluently if he practiced "moving like water."

This is a technique Drew teaches in Speak Like Me that helps you always have something to say.

My native friends are always surprised when they see Drew speaking for 30 minutes or more in a video without stopping...

But the secret is I'm just using this technique. :)

If you're interested in learning it, too, I created a new package of lessons that includes Speak Like Me and teaches over 720 conversational words and expressions.

Combine native speaking techniques with natural vocabulary and you get fluent speech!

Thanks for stopping by this post.
