End of the Year Happenings and New Year Thoughts ~ Happy New Year 2020

I will most likely continue to dating my paperwork 2019 for the first few week when I go back to work. I have almost forgot what the word "work" even means. With the kids off of school for Christmas break for a couple weeks, I figured I will join them this year. Normally I take a couple days off around this time of year but I decided to take over 2 full weeks off. With may vacation time at work maxed out... why not take a little more time off. I honestly feel like I have been home for a month already. I have to admit... I have been super lazy and it does feel good to take a long break from the everyday go-go-go.

Not-So Jolly Holiday

Typically I would up to my eyeballs in DIY projects and working around the house. My vacation started a week early when we ran into some health issues with our dog, Sadie. She was having a tough time getting up and her hind legs would give out on her. They diagnosed her with Wobbler Disease. She is over 100 lbs so helping her up hasn’t been too easy.

This all came in perfect time when some sort of sickness bug was making its way through the Splatts house. First @kuku-splatts has the stuffy nose, cough and mild fever. Then @lil-splatts had the headache/body ache, mild fever and cough. Then it made its way to Mama-Splatts. Really bad body aches, a little coughing and some mild fever. Then this happened to our dog. I wasn’t going to go to work and leave my wife to deal with all this by herself.

”Welp, sorry work, I am starting my vacation early”

Vacation... that word didn’t take to its meaning until after this sickness tried its best to take me down also. The body aches were pretty intense and the mild fever was pretty easy to deal with. We at the Splatts house don’t go running to the doctor for every little stuff nose. Nor is our cupboard full of over-the-counter medicines. I think the only thing we have is some Tylenol. We have immune systems for a reason. Let them do their job. If you are constantly dosing up with OTC meds every time you feel a little something, what do you think that is doing to your immune system? I think of my immune system like a football team. If the team never practices or hits the gym for a strenuous workout, how would they preform in the game? Or when it matters? Or if someone always did my job for me. What would happen when I actually had to do it?? Just something to think about. :wink:wink. This is the first time I have been “sick” in I don’t know how long. I honestly don’t remember the last time I was sick enough to where I didn’t want to do anything. This sissy little bug only lasted a couple days for me but the story was a little different with the rest of the family. This little bug stuck around for a bit longer and just became an annoyance to everyone else.

We spent Christmas by ourselves this year. Didn’t have any family over and didn’t go anywhere. Shoot we barely got the Christmas shopping done. Lol. Talk about a weird Christmas. Sick wife, sick kids, sick dog.... dang!!! Then there is my Dad. You see my Dad was diagnosed with some type of leukemia about 8 years ago. The time has finally come to start doing some treatments. With him undergoing his first immunotherapy treatment and just getting started taking 3 - $600 pills a day. Yes, each pill is $600 and he is taking 3 of them a day. I never knew it but you can get government grants to pay for it?? Really?? Grants to pay for medications??? Anyway... His immune system is a on the frits at the moment and it would not be good for him to catch a little cold bug from one of us. He has been doing great and has barely lost a step at the age of 70 even with this nagging at him. Bringing this sickness bug around him would be foolish. So we just kept our distance and made the Christmas phone call instead. Despite all this going on, we made the best of it like we always do.

The New Year 2020

So many people have their New Years Resolutions on their minds since May. Not this guy! I don’t think I have ever actually done a New Years Resolution. I just try each and everyday to be a better person than I was the day before. Making mistakes and learning from them. Embracing the right choices also. Being able to look back and say, “That was Stupid... or That was a great choice..” is very important. Don’t go looking at the negative all the time but remember the positive also. Learn from your mistakes and celebrate the positive choices. You deserve that.

I would say that in 2020 I am going to continue to work at being a better Me. Be a better Husband to my amazing wife, she deserves that!! A more patient, understanding Father to my kids, they deserve that. A healthier more active me, I deserve that!! When I start something... finish it. I have a bunch of projects that just need a little bit more and they would be done completely. Wow, now that I look at it... Dang I got work to do. Lol. Don’t make myself so busy that I don’t have time to stop and smell the roses. Plan more time to take the camp trailer out on weekend vacations. Enjoy life more, just sitting and relaxing with family. I don’t always have to be doing something. Sometimes doing nothing is doing something...

It was an pretty crappy end to 2019 but I guess that leaves lots of room for improvement in 2020. See how I did that?? Always leave yourself room for improvement. 😜😜

May all of you have a Happy and Healthy New Year. Now go and make 2020 you best year yet!! That is my plan!

Until Next Time...
