Keep the Beast on Life Support - Why Do We Need Centralized Social Media Networks?

avatar
(Edited)

I bet you didn't expect this title... Or at least the second part of it :) The first part is suitable for "my style", but the second one isn't... So, WTH is happening? I was going all in a decentralized platform, and now I'm cheering for centralized? What the heck, ph?

Let me try to explain what is it all about... There are some reasons for that, and one of them is hidden in the interview that I had with @nathanmars... But, besides that, the idea was out from some other great YouTubers that know what are they doing...

The problem with going "blindly" to just one platform, or solution, is that you are negating all the viewers/readers on some other platforms... And, if you take a "realist" view at the POWER today, you will notice that decentralized platforms are on the very beginning and they don't have too big reach... So, if we focus ONLY on OURSELVES, we deny possible growth... And without growth, we are tapping in the same spot...

The solution is to do BOTH... To continue publishing awesome content on our decentralized platforms (Hive, LBRY...), but at the same time, promote these content on standard, traditional centralized platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn)... To be more exact, we should use those platforms as RECRUITMENT centers for our cause...

@nathanmars is doing an awesome job on Twitter, and more and more people is joining his #hive5 movement, and we need to make as much possible buzz all around... Also, I know a couple of other creators who are doing the same thing on Facebook, YouTube)...

So, I don't say that you should go ALL-IN centralized platform, but use them smart to promote your OWN platform that you LIKE and SUPPORT!

Check out the video for a couple of thoughts that you may find useful...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

It was so good to see you write this. I, personally, thought that is what everyone would do. Maybe I was wrong. But, hell yes, use the other sites to bring awareness to our beautiful decentralized Hive.

Well, it's not always like that... There are people that are "loyal" to the platform and don't want to publish on other places...

From my point of view, that's wrong as they miss a lot of people on other places... But, on the others side, maybe they have some benefits for being "exclusive" (but doubt that something like that exists on YT, FB or Twitter)

I totally agree! Thats why I'm making my content as Hive "priority". All published here a week or two before anyplace else. And the other places will only get teasers. If somebody wants the "full, good stuff" then they gotta come here to get it.

Actually, that's a very good strategy... I see a lot of people doing it... Publishing some ordinary stuff on YT, and then promoting the "real stuff" on other decentralized platforms...

Thanks for the comment and your time!

I fully agree and although we have this great platform called HIVE, one shouldn't put ones eggs all in the same basket.

The established centralised SS sites have been around for a much greater period of time and have quite an established following, many more people utilise these tools than you could imagine. not to mention that most of us have been utilising these told for a number of years,

Having established our own following and presence on these platforms, why would we want to neglect them.

As in marketing it is all about consistency and showing up every day, as soon as you relax that concept you are swallowed by the void and it can takes some time to climb back out again.

If we ignore the established platforms we are ignoring our own growth and denying ourselves the opportunities that are presented to us.

It would be like doing something from ZERO (again) when you don't need to do it... I saw a lot of people who successfully moved their audience from one platform to another... It's not an easy task, but if someone appreciates your word, he/she will do that move...

In the end, it's not the end of the world try something new... :)

The solution is to do BOTH

I think it’s kind of depends on the person and their situation.

If someone already built a solid brand on Centralised SMP then it’s worth for them to do both.

On the other hand, if someone doesn’t have major following SMP then they can fully focus on decentralise social media platform is because Web3 is the future.

Also building personal brand or Community is more valuable than just trying to switch many platforms and wasting energy.

This is what I try to do... As I don't have too many followers on YT, I don't want to lose time on that at all (as you said in continuation of your comment)... + it would take years to build some follower base on YT + after all that, they can just switch OFF my account... looool...

I have made an exception with trying to build Twitter, as it's a nice ADDITION to Hive, and an awesome onboarding platform... It's proven that can bring results (check out STEEM drama and pressure that community made on Twitter), and we can to a lot there as a collective!

But, you already know that... :)

Yes, I completely agree with you. Most people use centralized platforms. Whether you like it or not, you need to be on centralized platforms to tell your story and onboard new users.

I uploaded some videos on YouTube. Now I think I will start doing that again. Thank you @ph1102 for talking about this and sharing your video.

If you have subscribers on YT, and you think that you can get some reach there, go for it! As @unklebonehead said, maybe a small teaser and a call to come here to see the rest and MORE!

Thanks for the comment and support!

Great video Zoltan, I agree with you. If you have been using standard social media and have a good following you should definitely be using both to maximize your exposure. I don't see a reason to stop using centralized social media when there are so many people who have no idea what decentralized social media even is. Up until almost a year ago I had no idea what decentralized platforms were or that they even existed.

Yes... Doing both, but keeping the FOCUS on YOUR main thing... I can do more platforms, but I know where I spend the most of my time and don't lose my focus!

Thanks for the comment and support!

For my faucet business I made a trial a couple of years ago. Instead of marketing my website on other faucets, I tried to create a landing page and then I promoted my website on traffic exchanges and mailers. This was a great solution because it allowed me to effectively grow and get people from outside the faucet sphere.

I think it's a bit the same here. If we use only the blockchain technology in itself we won't be able to bring growth to it. New users need to come from outside of this world and for that traditional social media is a very good tool.

Yeah... It's kind of converting people from centralized to decentralized solution...

Or converting them from hypnotized brain-washed people to thinking adult persons... :) haahaha... Ignore this line :)

Great video and points Zoltan, I use Twitter and some others to get visitors to Hive for my blogs and vlogs, and it is a great way to show them the benefits of using Hive themselves, keep up your great work.

Yes, it is... And especially when some other members on Twitter support you there, the effect is much better... It's important that people see the community and that they are not alone...
