New House, Crypto Chaos, Mental Health, Off Social Media, Music... How's Your Last 2 Weeks Been?

2 Weeks? Feels Like 2 months!

A lot can happen in a couple of weeks! I took some time off blogging just to give myself a little bit of breathing space and seems I just can't do "breaks" and switch off the noggin'! In that time:

  • I made an offer on a house that got accepted and I may well own my own place in the next few months which is not something I thought would ever happen! Going through all the legal stuff with that now but this is a big step!

  • I have started some evening and weekend learning to help get a footing on the Space Science course which is a good refresher on the skills needed to get back in to Uni again.

  • My mental health has definitely improved from being mostly offline and removing twitter, discord apps from my phone/PC and deleting my FB. Wow, such an energy drain those things are!

  • The crypto markets are in chaos with some serious FUD going on - I've not really missed the shitstorm that happens on Twitter and social media every day to be honest! I heard there were a few things going with Hive as well like the 3Speak network, power down times and things.

  • I even dared to open up my music software and started working on a new house/trance/old school track which will probably take a long time to complete but it was great to just fire up the music PC again and get things going!

Liquid Funk Cures The Soul

As always, I found some solace listening back to the tunes I first heard when I got to drum & bass and caught this pretty epic mix to just chill out to on Sunday. There are quite a few mixes that have tunes from 2004-2009, which is my favourite era of liquid funk and dnb, but the one I tuned in to yesterday was this one from Mickey B:

There are a lot of classics in there but he took the mix in a slightly heavier direction half way through which I wasn't too enamoured with but brings it back to the liquid soul vibes later in the mix. For me, I prefer to stick with the theme of liquid in my mixes and throw the odd one or two heavy ones in there if they fit but it was a nice nostalgic trip for sure!

Getting Back To DJing?

Speaking of mixes, DJ Pi contacted me last week and asked if I wanted to get back in to mixing again this month and go live on May 29th but my head isn't in the right place at the moment and I want to get settled in my new place first. Having said that, I'm starting to get the itch again with the mixes and as my creative juices aren't quite there with music creation, I am happy to just listen to other liquid dnb tunes and add them to my favourites library in preparation for when I get back in the mixing game later in the year.

I'm slowly getting back in to blogging but not fully back online - wanted to catch up with you and see how you're doing?! What else have I missed?? Let me know in the comments!

Nicky

Hey man that's awesome, a house?! Congrats! Hopefully you have a little bit of land with that house so you can have somewhere to put your feet down outside where we belong.

It's best if you just delete and keep away from those platforms, honestly lol. We can find out information and catch up with friends and family in other ways so it's best to stay away from the drama and poison that is those platforms!

I was wondering where you were at, 2 weeks is an awesome breathing and mental break for sure.

Hey mate! Thanks a lot! Yeah a tiny bit of a front garden that I'll be making the most of when I get the money together for it. Sure, I could power down some Hive I guess but kinda want to keep some stake to earn passively! It's a 1 bed semi but I live in an expensive part of the UK - at least I am close to friends and family which is the main thing!

You're right about deleting apps! I have not missed Facebook at all! The twitter algorithms have just been showing me nothing but Elon Musk and Bitcoin tweets and I'm like... switch that off! I'm just going to hang out in the liquid drum and bass mixes and read/learn about space haha!

Yeah man, think I just had to take a break after HiveBloPoMo finished too, it felt right and freed up some mental capacity to handle some real life shenanigans!

How have you been anyway? Been up to much the last couple of weeks?

Yeah there's a lot to take on board when moving house. It's "funny" in that you make one of the biggest investment decisions in your life based on a 20 minute "viewing" but if it feels right...

Hey Nicky !!!

First of al, congratulations for the new place, great! As I said, I am happy for you and that move!! Cool you have time to study a bit more now, it will probably help when you get back to the University. Ow, space man, Havey! Good to hear as well you feel better, that is the most important, we can live without all these stuff. We can be surrounded with really great things and be involved in, but if they take the control over us and make us not so happy, we should never continue doing it. Or at least, take a break, you did it well.

Music PC, let me remember the name.. was it Gladiator? :)

What else have I missed??

Not a lot of things hahaha, but we do missed your presence and engagement. And I don't have a colleague to count the weekly posts :D

Once again, happy for your mood improvement/house/uni/life!!!

Hey Brotianoooooo!!

Thanks for the well wishes and hopefully everything can go smoothly over the next few months as all the legal stuff and all that fun gets completed! It's going to be a painful one on the bank balance but hey, a place I get to call my own, make it look nice, throw some space pictures up in and have my own Havey Space Ship will be awesome 😄

I remember speaking to you about the social media stuff and how you just have a Hive account now? It does make things a lot easier and to be honest, the crowd here is a lot friendlier than anywhere else I've been online so...!

You are right about the Gladiator! You have a great memory!

Well, as I started posting again on a Monday, I'm at 2 posts this week haha!

Remind me to come back to your comment in 5 days and give it a massive upvote (I'm waiting for some delegations to come back).

I'll catch up to your blog in the next few days, so many people to see (it's a nice problem to have 😁)

I would not have worries about the bank balance after buying a house hehehe, your own home is you own home! Close your eyes when you want to see your bank account later, or just imagine some zeros in the end and that is , problem solved :DDD

Yes, that is it. You remember well also. There is no time to split into too many places, at least I would not be able (I am not even able to run two accounts equally here hahah, the other one, the sporty piano bro account is suffering as I dont remember to work around it.. ) So other social places are at "sleeping" mode.

You are right about the Gladiator! You have a great memory!

One of my friends at the Uni called me elephant 🤣 because of the memory... Although I am getting a bit weaker in that ability nowadays.

Well, as I started posting again on a Monday, I'm at 2 posts this week haha!

You have a second post too? Ah , must be today, right? I will check it out :D Then you are already winning me hahahha, I am skipping today.

Nicky, no need for upvote, hey, I am not here in your comment section because of that! It was when I saw a familiar cover photo, I realized it is the brother of the other Havey who is back!!!!

Take the getting back slowly, you will run away again if you try to read and listen to all the posts you missed. 😇

I will start doing that, thank you for the advice! As long as there is a number larger than 0 at the front of the other 0s haha!

Hmm, brotiolephant? That could be your new nickname now 😃

I'm already starting to feel burned out again so I may have to go back on the quiet train...

🤣

True!!

Would be a bit strange that new nickname, but it is up on you :D Maybe tianophant ?🤣

I'm already starting to feel burned out again so I may have to go back on the quiet train...

:( Oh...but I can understand.. as once you feel again the "offline freedom" must be difficult to chain again back. As well, maybe you wanted to make up everything in a short time so that feeling of being burned out came quickly... Take your time, I think you have to find the right balance first, concentrate now on the new home, job, Uni, anything that makes you feel good...happy...
Don't think too much hahaha, says a person that tends to overthink..usually... :D
Just disconnect for a time from the things that don't bring you tranquillity 😇

Its great to read your mental health is improving.

You're right, Social Media is draining and breaks (Days/Weeks or Months) are always good.

Congrats on the house, I just recently finish paying off mine.

Thanks mate, yeah it's a lot better and I think I just needed those couple of weeks to get a plan in place and schedule my days a bit better. My whiteboard is totally full so I may have to get a new one haha!

Congratulations on paying off your mortgage too mate! Some of what I'm using as a down payment is borrowed from some of my other crypto which is actually pretty cool! Means I didn't have to sell anything at the moment and just have to keep my fingers crossed I don't get margin called with the recent correction haha! Never a dull moment!

Congratulations for your new home :)

Unfortunately, last two week have been really bad for me and i think for all Indians given the Corona Virus has shown a drastic peak here. We are again in a lockdown. But you, my friend, must enjoy your good life :)

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation and how things are going in India :( I heard about the cyclone too and I am sending my positive vibes and well wishes across to you all. Take care of one another.

Congratulations on making progress towards owning your own home! I really preferred owning my own home to renting.

It makes making long term decisions and purchases so much easier vs having to call the landlord and getting his approval and all that.

Thanks a lot mate! Yeah renting does feel like you could put that money to better use yourself and having a freehold property vs leasehold just makes so much more sense. In the UK, you're paying a couple of grand each year with service charges, maintenance fees, ground fees, on top of everything else. No thanks!

Like you say, getting all the approval to make some modifications can be a chore too but hopefully in a few months time, I can start making some renovations. I only need to consult myself which shouldn't take too long! Oh, and the bank... that might take a little longer haha!
