The Simpsons - "Home Hypnotism"

(Edited)

Back before The Simpsons was a half-hour animated show it was a series of short animated clips on The Tracey Ullman Show

In the February 19, 1989 broadcast the short segment "Home Hypnosis" ran. Lisa (voiced by Yeardley Smith) and Bart (voiced by Nancy Cartwright) are literally bouncing off the walls of the play room. Homer (voiced by Dan Castellaneta) reveals to Marge (voiced by Julie Kavner) that he got a book on hypnotism. As a frustrated authoritarian rather than use hypnosis to help him with the stress Homer intends to hypnotize his own kids. Marge was reluctant at first but joins the conspiracy by saying, "I'll hold 'em, you hypnotize 'em."

Homer tries to hypnotize his children but of course he failed because he's Homer Simpson. Bart, Lisa and Maggie play along with the gag. Bart hams it up by pretending to snore. After each of the kids exchange a glance with one eye open they feign being hypnotized and stumble around like mindless zombies.

After the kids are finished pretending to be hypnotized Marge promises never to try to modify their behavior again. That promise lasts until the season 11 episode "Brother's Little Helper".

I love The Simpsons!

My son was trying to hypnotize me into making cake today. I guess he did it right, cause I made cake.
