People grieve differently. Sometimes, people say that when you lose someone, all you need to do is to obliviate those memories and move on with your life like nothing ever happened. To some of us, the situation could be totally different. While some people find it eath to let go, others hold on tenaciously to those memories and in some cases, the grief ends them.

Everyone should be left to grief whichever way they deem fit, because in the end, time heals everything. To some of us who loved our dear ones deeply, losing them seemed like some part of us have been taken away, it becomes almost impossible to let their memories slip away. As much as we try to live our lives happily, somehow, the memories we have of them comes waving at us, absolute happiness becomes almost an impossible feat because at each blink, somehow, we are reminded of the part they played in our lives, thus, letting go those memories might mean that they mattered less to us.

Just like when Bella lost her youngest brother to cancer, she couldn’t forgive herself. She blamed herself for letting her brother die on her watch even though she was completely powerless. She thought her only closure would be to write about him, after all, writing gives a certain kind of subtle calmness to her spirit. But after writing, nothing changed because those memories never go away. When she lost her good uncle to cancer as well, she watched his children grief, and his wife become a shadow of herself. No matter how hard, the vacuum created by a loved one can never be filled.

When Bella was younger, she watched her dad break the news of the sudden demise of my mum’s twin sister and grandpa, she didn’t feel a thing. I guess it didn’t weigh so much on her because she was very young, she didn’t understand it, she simply knew that she was never going to see them again. It wasn’t a big deal anyway, she had thought to myself.

Today, she's older, everything has become extremely different. The news of death stings her with so much contempt. The emotions that run through her are inexplicable, even the death of a total stranger hurts her badly. She thinks about their loved ones and how they would struggle to get over their loss. Letting go of this pain doesn’t come easy to some people. This is why she fails to understand how hardened the hearts of those who move on in the strings of seconds must be or is it possible that they could be hiding their emotions under some sort of mask.

She still grieves the passing away of her loved ones. She's not in a hurry to let it go because sometimes, those emotions could be good and bad at the same time. Sometimes she sees them in her dreams and wakes up happy. She has no intention of letting those memories go soonest; because having these memories is the only way she can value the presence of those who are with her.

Lately, Her landlady came to her apartment to inform her that the family would be celebrating the death anniversary of her husband. It’s been ten years since she lost her husband. She could see tears coil up her beautiful eyes as she fought so hard to betray the tears, she looked her in the eyes, it was the first time she ever had the courage to look directly into her eyes. She almost gave in to tears, Bella wanted to hug her and tell her that everything was going to be alright. But she lacked the courage to do that. Alas, the memorial anniversary brought peace to her soul. It is difficult letting go of the beautiful memories that were once reality. And yes, Bella's landlady can hold on to those memories if it brings her peace, it doesn’t matter how long, as long as it gives her peace.

Have a splendid day folks.
