Some argue that you owe no one a thing when you are friends with them, whereas others argue that you owe friendship a lot. They say that when you are friends with someone, you owe them listening ears to know what demon they are fighting and fight alongside, you owe them love, care, mental support, loyalty, and being the light in their lives when everything seems so dark. Unfortunately, only but few are willing to walk on the later path. A lot of people always want to be on the receiving side and not willing to give a thing. Sad enough, the few who dedicate themselves to making friendship work are so underrated and always taken advantage of. Today, I want to say this to my friends who really understand what friendship means- “THAT YOU ARE LOVED”, and to others who don’t, I want to say that “you can do better”.

To That Special One

It was your presence, it had some kind of glittering element that illuminates the entire space and makes it habitable. It was your voice, subtle, kind almost capable of calming every storm and restoring peace. It was your radiating smile that relieves pain and brings assurance for tomorrow. It was your friendship, built on a foundation of love and trust, loyalty and selflessness void of deceit and expectations. It was your gentle nature, rare and true - it was all I saw and that formed my opinion about you.

We are not endowed with the supernatural powers to unravel what light or darkness lies in the mind, in order to ascertain those who truly love us, but, we have the natural ability as humans to read minds , we have been equipped with the psychological ability to differentiate; friends from foes. You amaze me, for you have laid bare you heart so much that your intentions are glaring. Your over flowing cloak of humility has caused foes to wear the mask of friendship and trample upon that weakness to the point of servitude. Yet you remain unbothered.

Human are sometimes selfish, well it is impossible not to be. Little wonder we offer varying degrees of supplications to rise but will not hesitate to cripple those who offer the same sacrifice. But you, rather than rising, you gave up your ladder and watch those you love rise. You are a hero in the pages of diverse success stories. You are the ointment that heals wounds, you are the peace that soothes pains and the laughter that rids off sorrow.

What I say is true, for my eyes are closed to the world’s definition of whom a friend should be, what features he/she must possess, and what physical characteristics to put into consideration. My physical eyes have been blinded in order to open a path for my inner sight, to see the true nature of humans as they are, and base judgment without prejudice.

Beautiful words are not meant to be said about beautiful people only when they are no more. They also deserve to know how good and true they are, now and every day. Good people deserve to be loved, appreciated, showed kindness and lifted up with the same energy with which they lift others.

Good people to an extent do not know the depth of their kindness, they do not know how much they are loved, and they do not know the lips chanting words of prayers for them. This is why my heart is saying thank you for being good friends to me, thank you for being selfless, thank you for being kind, thank you for all you do, you are truly loved, and I hope the universe repays with the same energy. You also deserve to be truly loved.
