From Dumbo to Counselor || Turning Insecurities into Strengths

Is there a feature you are a bit self conscious about? Is it your face, the shape of your body, feet, nose or something else? If you had asked me this question a couple of years back, I would've presented a long list of attributes I was self conscious or unhappy about.

But for this post we'll stick to just one or two: my ears. Semantics right? 😂
Back to those ears.
For many years I thought my ears were way too big and protruding for my small tiny face, which made me self conscious about them. In the mirror, when trying out a hairstyle, I would constantly change the hairstyle, because in my eyes those ears just kept popping up from under my hair. I was so annoyed, because they didn't even pop out like those gracious slim elvish ears you see in movies. Some people making fun of them didn't really help either.

And then something changed.
I changed the narrative from a negative perspective to a positive one, or rather, I saw a potential in those "big" ears of mine. The thing is, aside from me being very talkative, I am also a good listener. When having engaging talks with people, I ask a lot of questions because I am interested in their (life's) stories. What makes the person who they are, what are their views, how are they feeling, and so forth. There have also been instances when people suddenly opened up to me, in telling me something about themselves they haven't told anyone else. Sometimes, I didn't even think I had that close of a bond with the individual. Realizing all of this, I learned to appreciate those "big" ears of mine, because they are now perceived to be an asset of mine. Because of those ears people have a listener, an outlet, in me.

So what's your story? Did you have an insecurity of which you have changed your perspective of or are you still self conscious about something? If it's the latter, will you consider trying this changing your mindset out?

I believe in you.

Great post, Tanja!!! I'm so happy and grateful to @russellstockley that he picked your post for his CTP Wheel!

Those that have ears will listen... and as you said, you are a good listener... That is probably the hardest thing today... Everyone is talking, but just a few listen... Don't be ashamed of your look, you are a beautiful woman with a great attitude!

Thank you... 😁
Still have a lot to learn though, because I had followed a class for Effective communications this year and found some things I needed to work on. But that's for a professional, not so much for a confidant. But still, it's the profession I am interested in so will keep working on those minors 💪
The important thing is that I am aware of those flaws, which means I can work on them 😁

Awesome story, my friend! :) I truly appreciate your positive perspective.

I, like you, have pushed through a lot of things in my life, including a lot of medical issues and 17 surgeries. But all of it made me stronger & within it, I have a deeper appreciation for life & how I can be of service to others. I think we all have something that we may be a bit self conscious about, but when we begin to love ourselves, that's when we see our true worth & that energy shines out in the world. :)

Thank you for sharing your story with us & sending bright blessings to you. :)🧡

Oh wow....
See, when we tell our stories; the good and the bad; there is someone who could learn from those experiences or that they know they are not alone...

You are a fighter; stay strong and safe! 💪
And you inspire me btw 😁

Bless!

Aww you are sweet. You inspire me, too. :)

Yes, sharing the stories really do let people know they aren't alone. That is so important. And like you, I am still working on things, too. It never really ends lol. When we keep working on ourselves & evolving into even better versions of ourselves, that is what makes it all worth while. :)

Have a wonderful weekend & stay blessed. 🙏💜

Yes, even I keep changing and learning along the way.
Heck, even when I'll be more grey and considered a senior citizen I will keep learning from the generations after me 😂

Have a blessed weekend! 💙

True, even I make mistakes in that department though.
Just recently followed classes about Effective communication, where I learned the mistakes I may make. But that's a good thing, because when you're aware of your flaws, you can do something about it 💪

Nice story. We are all a little self- conscious especially in our younger years. Hahaha it’s cool that you found the reason for the ears and have learnt to accept them. A good listener is really hard to find. I also find myself being told things by people I rarely know that they wouldn’t tell anyone else.

For me my gap teeth were something I was always self-conscious about but then I realized they are easier to clean 😂. Many people in any Asia see it as a sign that happiness flows easily into your life.

Blissful weekend ✨

Yeah... A lil' gap between teeth is indeed easier to keep clean; especially when flossing. Nice to read about what others have overcome or are in the process of accepting.

Blessed weekend!
