An Adventure back to Nature after More than a Year 🌴
This weekend we had a long overdue meeting with the wonders of nature. On the outskirts where cities end and forest takes over, we went on an adventure with friends and family. Armed with food, supplies, music and nothing but positivity @tanjakolader and I took to the road.
I won't bother you with the main asphalt roads, because those look like any other plain asphalt road. That's not what where here for. So after a leisurely 45min we arrived at the area of our destination, with this beautiful at the beginning of the inner road.
My mini car was not suitable for the terrain, especially because it was raining, which makes everything muddy, but somehow we managed to make it through.
Tanja, saw a medium sized iguana on the left side of this part, but was too slow to take a picture. But seeing big iguanas ensured us that we were definitely away from civilization.
And then we arrived. Most people were already there and a few had set up tents. The tent people would regret that move, but more on that later. Luckily we're hammock people. :)
As the designated grill-master-general I had a clear task at hand and started the fire on the charcoal grill. This was a few hours after our arrival once we had our bellies filled with lunch and I had relieved my rum tank of it's empty status.
With the fire of the gods a blazing, it didn't take long for the juicy marinated chicken legs to find there way the grill, ready to be glazed and smoked cuisine.
The trick is to keep the chamber closed so that smoke builds up nicely.
And every so often you open it up to turn the pieces over and brush them with a bit of marinade, so they don't become the same as the charcoal their grilled over. :)
If all goes to plan they should look something like this amazing tender sight.
As I watched the barbeque consumers have their fun in the streaming creek, the chicken legs evolved into their fully cooked form, ready to be shredded to pieces by hungry carnivorous beings.
But enough barbeque lessons, and back to the trip.
The night that followed was filled with food, fun and drunken stories, and everyone had a great time, the 4 year old's as well as the 60+ folk.
But there was one more entity that had fun that night: the weather. The tent people woke up the next morning to a not so nice surprise, as their tents were surrounded by water. The rain had poured down on us expanding the creek in the process. It was all in good fun though. Nobody got hurt and we all had a good laugh in the end.
This is the kind of trip we used to go on multiple times a year before, so it was amazing to go on one after more than a year of inactivity. We may be far from "back to normal", but it's moment like this that keep me sane and make me believe the light is getting brighter at the end of the pandemic tunnel.
What a lovely trip. The light is getting brighter.
Wish i Yu up had gotten a pic of the iguana. Not that I love iguanas but...😆
Lol, I know some people who would've gotten more than just a picture, and would throw that iguana on the grill. xD
Yup, especially those uncles or cousins of mine 😂
Haha! Lizards aren’t my favorite but I’ve held an iguana before.

How crazy, to wake up and get everything flooded.
What a nice walk, especially for these moments of confinement where we need a day of relaxation.
True, it was a long awaited return to freedom with nature.
It was so good, that no one even minded the minor flooding. :)

That's my kinda outing, in nature, BBQ, booze, good peeps.
So hold up... did they get wet inside the tents or was it waterproof? If so, natural Ac 😄
Especially the booze part. xD
Water got into the tent from the bottom, but only their sheets got wet, luckily.

Enjoying your post, I also think I want to set up a beautiful outdoor camp with my partner. Ah, I want to do that as soon as possible!
You should definitely do that. But be sure to not put it that close to the water. 😅

For real bro. That jerk seasoning thing may not be a bad idea. I'm sure all the ones that are being used here, were imported.
Congrats for being OCD Other Niche Communities today in this post: https://peakd.com/hive-174578/@ocd/ocd-other-niche-communities-curation-report-5
I appreciate the support. It was a nice surprise to see that large amount after such a long time. 😅
It looks like Colakreek, but perhaps it was another blackwater creek. Man I wish adventures in Suriname didn't take tons of effort and funds to arrange, because we would do stuff like this every weekend. Without a car, a life here is nothing short of impossible.
I do hope see blackwater one more time before leaving, but I think we're gonna end up Albania, cutting our living costs down to 25% of what it takes to survive here.
It's called Carolinakreek, but I think it's the same creek, just a lot further to the south. I'll check with Fausto what we can do now that the covid rules are more lenient.
What fun!!!
Send some of the chicken over!!!
The chicken has all perished by now. 🤣

Interesting! The weather definitely took a turn in there lol looks like a really fun time though!
It was a REALLY fun time. I almost forget what it was like to be in the outdoors and free. :)
I can imagine! Some of these lock downs are nothing more than psychological torture and damage, I think. Glad you were able to get out in nature where we belong!
Thankfully things seem to be slowly reverting back. More adventures to come!
