Satan came straight down to the earth to live because there was no other place he could stay.
Although earth was created by GOD for humans and other animals,it was not meant for angels and as a result satan had to take up a human form so as to survive and live perfectly on Earth. He is no in a particular place here on Earth,he roams about it.
Job 2:2 (KJV) And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Yes you are right, satan came down, Satan the the deceiver, liar, destroyer and even the Bible tell us that Satan come but steal , kill and destroy.
Because you did that act of jealous Satan always have nothing to give but he always find a way to decieve and destroy some one life.
Because he did not want to go alone to the hell fire and he asked to deceive a lot of people to join him.
This earth is not meant for him but he can't stay in heaven because he has disobey God and sin against God, and in the Bible God said there is not any on unclean thing that will enter the kingdom of God.
