Wild West Halloween!

An Unforgettable Halloween 2020

Not that common in The Netherlands

A very strange sensation. In the Netherlands, Halloween is of course nowhere near as common as in America, and perhaps other countries much more. It is a fact that in recent years it has also started to come more and more in the Netherlands. But a lot is really not done about it, especially compared to Christmas.

Nevertheless, I decided to do something about Halloween this year and a doll was bought for that, which gave a light show from the eyes when movement was detected. There was also a sound that had the idea of Chucky, because the doll said a few sentences that were quite unclear, but “You wanna playyyy” was very clear.

A Halloween pie

Because I am quite fond of baking during this time, a Halloween pie had to be made of course. And since pumpkin puree is hardly available here in the Netherlands, and certainly not in the rural corner where I live, I decided to come up with my own recipe.

My own recipe

A biscuit base and a cheesecake filling that I seasoned with the juice of 2 squeezed oranges and cinnamon. A pinch of vanilla and put it in the oven. When I had the cake in the oven I really thought that it was really not going to be anything at all, but after it had cooled it got much better ... and after a night in the fridge it had become a beautiful and very tasty pie that I decorated with a chocolate spider web and a few spiders to complete it.

ONE WEEK EARLY!

Just… MY GOD, how could this happen? I was just a week early with my pie! It was only October 24th instead of October 31st when my beautiful Halloween cake was ready. Well, a shame not to enjoy it… so even though the cake was a week too early, I really enjoyed it.

Now the 'fun' starts

A week later it was really time! October 31… so put the doll in the coffin outside in front of the house. A pumpkin next to it with a light in it. Put a witch's broomstick next to it and wait until it got dark to take a picture. Only when I wanted to get my camera suddenly an unpredicted downpour came over, which was a big disappointment because the coffin, which was hastily put together, was made of such bad wood that it could not have any downpours.

A bull in the front yard?

Waiting for a moment, and the moment I reached for my camera again and looked outside for a moment, my eyes almost rolled out of my head. Because I looked straight into the eyes of a young bull. What the fvck? A bull? In my front yard? Looking at my Halloween decoration? That is not possible at all! Yet it was really true. A young bull had escaped and was standing in the front yard. Now I don't think it's a drama ... but it can be life-threatening. So quickly put on my jacket, a safety vest over my jacket. Put on my rubber boots and a flashlight, and then out into the rain… without a camera. It was a shame to take a picture, but there was no other option. At such a moment you have to set priorities. And that bull had to be returned to its stable as soon as possible. It may not be my bull, but I don't want the animal to be hit because that can cause the biggest accidents. So, out in the pouring rain in the dark to prevent the bull from hitting the road.

The bull and I didn't become friends

In the meantime, I called the landlord that there was a cow outside, so he told me it must be a bull because apparently there are only bulls here. But he would also inform the farmer who owns the bulls and he would have to come and solve it. So that was waiting. I saw that the animal had a rope around its neck that was broken / bitten and I tried to get him by the rope. But he didn't think that was such a good idea. Well, then we don't become friends and I just keep him from running onto the road. The cars that pass here drive quite fast and it is really dark here without any street lighting.

Back in the stable

For my own safety I kept shining my flashlight on the road when I saw a car coming so they also knew that I was there ... After what seemed like an eternity, but in reality it must have been half an hour the farmer arrived . Together we chased the bull so that he went to the side of the stable again and luckily the farmer was able to get him there and the young breaker was put back in the stable.

The good pic literally fell into the water

In the meantime my desire to take a picture of the Halloween decoration had completely disappeared, it was raining more and more and I wanted to get the whole stuff in as soon as possible… So the picture literally fell into the water.

Leaving me with only a telephone pic with lots of noise

Instead of a good and creepy scary Halloween photo for this blog… I don't have a good photo, only a telephone pic with a lot of noise, and instead of a quiet Halloween night it turned out to be a full-blown Wild West Halloween night with no pie because it was gone a week earlier. But because of the full-blown Wild West bull, I don't have a photo from the bull either ... Lol. Let's just say, it was an unforgettable Halloween night but a lot different than I had thought it would be.

Did you also do anything about Halloween and did it go normally? I'm curious!

I did not do much for Halloween this year, and there were not as many trick or treaters this year either!
But I'm glad to see you baking a pie! That sure looks yummy!

I love this post! Yeah a Bull would probably be terrifying enough seeing they can kill people so glad that was taken care of and what a weird night for that! Our Halloween , nobody went out cause of Covid so was strange and also very sad because it's the first Halloween ever that was like this. I hope next year it is different and some normalcy ensues.
