Still Working on That Game to be Built on Hive

Some quick doodles on in game icons unrefined

I've mentioned about working on a game on some previous posts long forgotten. It's been an on and off project for fun. It's all on hobby time and I don't really expect people to be motivated to work on something that they won't be compensated for. The motive behind was just seeing how far we can go.

Note: The game may or may not happen in the future. I'm not promising anything and the post is just talking about the work done on it so far. We're just amateurs who had a lot of free time then and now life took over and we just got more on our plates. I still work on it with the help of new members but the progress isn't that remarkable over the grand scheme.

There have been a lot of changes from since the concept of the game was made. Using blockchain tech to store saves, NFTs, card game, role playing game, and etc whatever was feasible within our skill level.

Background:

The progress was posted on the @takipsilim account. The first members were just me, @jazzhero (our programmer), @kothy (co-artist), and @tpkidkai (idk what he will do but hopefully he does the thing). Our mascot is named Stumpy.

How the project came to be
The Art Style
Scrapping what was decided for the revisions

TL:DR

I'm trying to create a multiplayer role playing browser game using the blockchain technology. The game would have the standard fantasy feels we are most familiar with but focused on the crafting system, and a player driven economy. Sounds like big talk but I'm making it up as I go along the process of making it happen.

I wanted a game where players don't need to "invest" anything to get into playing beyond the hive they staked. So users with more resource credits get to do more actions in game. Players mint the NFTs (as they acquire in game items) and they can use that to trade for the game's token which (has no inherent value other than being used to interact with other in game features) or between players.

It would have a leveling system, quests and etc you would expect to see in a regular role playing game minus the flashy parts like cool art and animations (until I get myself someone who can help me with the animations, I'm only limited to the icons, splash arts, and smaller parts).

I wanted a game where anyone can get into without being told they had to pay something as their initial investment to get started. Naturally, people would try to get their money back asap or be concerned about how much money they would be earning instead of I don't know, treating the game like an actual game and play. While I still haven't figured out the tokenomics and the small details on how to make all these things possible (will ask more experts on the subject as I go along). Not figuring it out isn't going to stop me but real life demands would.

I think we had like more than 5 and lost count how many further before we changed the direction we're going. Most of the changes happened whenever new life events come up and members needed some time off the blockchain. New names come and go until I'm the only left keeping it alive (barely). I do this because of the challenge and the idea that I'm creating some value for shits and giggles is something.

Right now I enlisted @therealflaws @juecoree and @kothy (hiatus) help in compiling the preliminary list of items to build an in game library. I made it specifically clear they treat the project as a hobby and not put too much time on it beyond their spare time. So I ended up with small progress but I'll take what I can get and thank the people who supported my nonsense. Part of the rewards from this post will be given to them.

What's the progress so far?

I finished compiling the list of items for the first parts of the game and now working on tweaking the preliminary formulas to get started.

Next on the list is compiling a monster list, their respective drops, stats, and flavor text while simultaneously doing some art stuff on item icons (I got someone else doing the list so I can focus on the art part and other details).

The math intensive parts of the game have yet to be worked out and hoping @jazzhero would come out of his hiatus to figure that part with me but there's no rush as it's already taking me a long time even do the initial parts. This is hobby time after all. Plenty of time to get better at illustrating and refining some stuff before that happens.

If you made it this far reading, thank you for your time. This is a creative footer by @adamada. A hobby illustrator

Would be awesome to eventually get a game with some actual gameplay. Let’s hope it happens! Good luck!

Thanks! it's a long long process and was tempted to mention a timeline but that just creates hype I don't want. Thanks for stopping by :>

Liking the doodle style. Sounds like you have a lot of ambitions for the game. We also plan to implement blockchain features in our game, but have not outlined a good plan for it yet.

Hope you all get more time to work on it. We really need more games that also use the blockchain and less "Blockchain Games" and it sounds like you are going in the right direction! Good luck, keep us posted. 😃

Thanks! good luck on your game, I do want to see more variety of games built on the blockchain. Using the blockchain means not being vulnerable if your database got from some far away data center and multiple people can validate whether fair play being uphold. It's just an ambition I'm slowly building up and hope it goes well, I hope you succeed on your project and share it here too. :>

Thanks, we will definitely be posting our progress as we go. Once we get the core gameplay ready is probably when we'll start looking at blockchain additions. We simplified down to a single player off-line game since it is really just 2 of us (mostly just 1...) So probably not going to be as much as you have ahead of you with a multiple RPG.

Hopefully the response you are getting to this post is some motivation! 😄 Sometimes posting about progress (even if there is not much or negative progress) can be just what you need to get going again.

I can understand the difficulty of trying to make a game with a team in everyone’s spare time when there is not much of an expectation for compensation. My first real attempt at making a game was with a team and it just never worked out with real-life stuff coming up for everyone.

I do hope over time as blockchain gaming evolves we get further away from people instantly trying to turn a profit and more into people just enjoying the game. I think of all the games I’ve played in my lifetime and when I was done with them it would just be nice if I could just have sold my assets without using a shady third party and be on my way.

As far as animation goes if you are using a game engine you can try checking to see if they have an animation rig (control rig) available and if it works with what you are doing. If these were 3d humanoids you would have resources like Mixamo and many other large libraries if it was following industry-standard skeleton system. As far as something like this I do not know.

It’s great to see you guys are making progress. I do hope you keep us updated. I have found needing to make a post about progress on a game is sometimes the motivation needed to get some work done.

My first real attempt at making a game was with a team and it just never worked out with real-life stuff coming up for everyone.

Sums up what I'm going through now minus the knowledge to code. Everything else other than coding, music, and animation can be improvised. I did study some minor coding just trying to get a feel on how some ideas of mine can be feasible but then whatever is learned gets lost because work and life happens. Right now I still pop up in chat asking how's everyone then without waiting for an answer I'll just assume everyone's busy doing their own thing. I don't blame them, even more motivated that I can push the project with just my own momentum.

I think of all the games I’ve played in my lifetime and when I was done with them it would just be nice if I could just have sold my assets without using a shady third party and be on my way.

Yeah, if one is done with their lvl X account and just wants to sell they can always comeback to the blockchain that would keep the data alive. Playing some games that had their servers closed meant losing stuff one grinded for months to years without any recovery. Blockchain and some open source coding will prevent this stuff from happening if the original devs want to quit building a fanbase can step up.

@jazzhero mentioned some engines that he thought may be useful but we haven't talked in detail what he had intended to use as a lot of options were pitched in. It would depend on how far y own art can take me and how well I can implement the story to suit whatever system he plans on using. When I started out the idea "let's make a game because we're bored" I didn't expect how tedious the whole process was especially when one developed a sense for distinguishing bad games from good.

Now I'd rather drag the creation process than launch a half baked product people would waste their time. I'll be posting about the game's progress when some milestones have been achieved but it's a process on its own.

!LUV the feel, the idea is cool, and your direction seems to be great. Treating it as a hobby will probably need to change in the future if / when you launch and someone among your team has to be full-time doing it. It will take a while, but you will get there eventually. Congrats!

If you give a negative vote, have the dignity of saying that it gave it, that is to have very little education and becoming that you have a lot of SP (because I see that education does not have any) and now that you come your friends and everyone put me negative votes, that is what will happen

Do I have to explain every vote I give? If I give upvotes do I need to tell people why I give upvotes each time I do it? Oh yeah, I downvoted your post, specifically for the movie reviews because they are badly written. I don't mind the downvotes on my posts, the rewards ain't mine until they get paid out anyway.

Abuser? I'm not the plagiarist here. Write the review at your native language. What's wrong with using your native language and just put a side by side English translation? English isn't even my native language.

You have 5 accounts blacklisted in Spaminator due mass plagiarism. So don't cry like this because you got a few small downvotes. Most of the thieves like you, get their accounts smashed by the community until have to leave this platform, so consider yourself very lucky. I would shut up if would be in your position, your good luck might change very quick.

And I'm sure I did not read anything for put the negative vows behind another, you are the first person to read a post in a 1 minute, which face has when you say that.

I read them all before giving a single carpet bomb. You assumed that the intervals between the votes is an indicator I haven't read any of them?

Was this the one we were talking about before or a different one?

If it was the same one well I'm glad you weren't discouraged after all XD

Is that the art you have at the moment? It looks like it would make a cute game :)

If it's cute, it's @kothy's doing if it looks something like the one below. Guess who wanted that thing to be in the game? I wanted it to be horror but hard to pull off due to lack of jumpscare mechanics. "Your transaction didn't push through" or "Game data not saved" was the most I could come up with.

It's the same game in the spiritual sense that it morphed into multiple forms becoming whatever child my mental universe shaped it right now. Hard to focus what part of the game I want to be working on more, the library and assets, story, art, or mechanics. I think I'm spread too thin and just happy someone else took the organizing the library off from my plate so I can focus more on the art.
