Dear Hivers

We need food and drinks. Without that, we’ll die in a matter of several days. But what’s this business of always eating out and spending money on expensive food and drinks?

Have you ever tracked how much you spend on food? Most of the time, if we don’t track our spending, we don’t realize how much money we’re wasting!

how to save money on food

Here’s how to save money on food and beverage.
Limit eating out.
I’m not saying that you stop eating out completely. Just limit it. Once a week should be fine, depending on your financial situation. But seriously, when you eat out at a fastfood or at a posh restaurant, you spend about 100 – 400% more compared to what you’ll spend at home! That’s because the cost of the place, a portion of the salary of the cook, the waiter, and even the flowers on the table are factored into the price of the food you eat!

The next time you eat at a restaurant, try computing the cost of the raw ingredients of the cooked food. See if you can still swallow the food.

Cook food at home.
If the reason for frequent eating out is romance, you can probably generate more when you cook food at home! It’s sexy. It’s nice. And it gives you additional points for trying to come up with an unusual romantic dinner (or lunch; or breakfast… take your pic).

When you cook food at home, you can also choose healthier options–minimize the salt and sugar, even the MSG, and then learn new dishes to cook!

Invite friends for a potluck.
Instead of going to a restaurant to catch up with old friends, why don’t you ask them to bring their own food and then share it with everyone. You can even cook together. That way, you become a little bit closer while doing something together. Your friends may even enjoy that better than a pan of pizza prepared at a restaurant.

Yeah, it can be a pain in your schedule. But that’s why you have to schedule it ahead of time.

Drink more water, instead of softdrinks.
Ditch the Coca-cola or Mountain Dew for that matter. Why don’t you simply drink more water. It doesn’t even need to be the bottled one. Studies have shown that tap water is safe to drink, except of course if concerned government agencies raise some warnings about drinking water from an area.

If you ditch Coke, you can get rid of the extra sugar you’re consuming and have a better health. Water also helps transport crucial nutrients in the body. And it will help your digestion and circulation better. Nothing beats water for healthy lifestyle!

Plant a garden (if you can!)
Imagine having a garden of vegetables in your backyard (or even in front). You can have fresh vegetables anytime of the day! No need for pesticides, or far travel for your veggies.

It takes time to grow a garden though. You have to be patient. When you have planted the seeds, it will be a matter of constantly looking after the garden and maintaining it. It can be a pain to maintain it, but when harvest time comes, you can save a lot of money on food!

Good article, from my own experience I know that food is where most of our budget goes and that is where we must control the finances.

A spending control strategies must be established according to our income level, realizing what our priorities are and the rest would be considered as optional, since it is about establishing a level of savings.

First of all we must do a good planning to keep track of both income and expenditure because in the food is where we have more expenses, and medicines, try to establish a balance of savings.
