Dear hivers

If you’re like most young professionals today, you probably have an illness. It gets you worried month after month, it causes severe itch in the area where you put your wallet. And it’s a recurring illness!

Do you know what it’s called?

Pre-Payday Poverty Syndrome.
You better pause for a moment and look at the symptoms of this illness. It can create severe anxiety and will make your life miserable!

Take a look at the symptoms below and diagnose yourself.

Scrimping on expensive coffee.
Do you enjoy a good cup of coffee from Starbucks, Figaro or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf? And then all of a sudden, you lost your appetite for expensive coffee. Then you tell yourself that you can make do with the second-rate coffee in the office; or you brew your own coffee at home!

Or in the worst possible scenario, you reluctantly buy the all-too-sweet or doesn’t-quite-taste-right 3-in-1 coffee from 7-11!

pre payday povery syndrome

Taking out your magic plastic more often.
Do you go to the mall without any intention of buying anything. But then you get hypnotized. Or you suddenly find yourself being pulled by a mysterious force toward; and then you wake up in front of the cashier with an expensive shoes or bag or book, and you have to pay for it! Then you take out your magic plastic called a credit card and pay for your item!

Smaller amounts of money lasts for a longer time.
They say that the last few feet of a tissue roll lasts longer than the first sheets. Same is true with the last amounts of money in your wallet. All of a sudden, the last few bills in your wallet refuses to go out. They’re probably depressed, or they’ve become introverts. When just two or three weeks ago, they’ve been socializing at all kinds of cashiers and cash registers at the malls and the restaurants!

Looking at the calendar with intense longing, wondering what’s taking the payday so long!
The calendar could be unrelenting at times, doesn’t it? At some point, the days just seem to roll over each other and pass by so quickly. But why does the payday seem to come by very, very slowly?! If there were a time machine, you would have jumped right in and fast forwarded the date to your payday!

Checking ATM or online banking every hour or so.
Do you go check your bank account balance at the ATM three times or more a day, wishing that your salary has arrived? Or do you logon to your online banking account and check the balance?

Do you also kick yourself mentally when you realize that payday won’t come for another week?

Promising self that next month would be better.
Then you make a mental promise that this won’t ever happen again. You don’t want to go through the pain and agony of this disease every again! You will implement better cash flow management, spend less, save more, blah. blah. blah.

The bad news is you will MOST LIKELY suffer from these symptoms again.

The good news is you DON’T HAVE TO. There’s a way to get rid of this Syndrome permanently!

The solution?

Better cash flow management.
No matter how much money you make, if you have poor cash flow management, you will always suffer from Pre-payday Poverty Syndrome. And that’s the mission of the blog–to explore ways to become better at financial education and management.

Hello friend, I think many people suffer from this syndrome, but as you say we must have self-control and good management of our money. I believe that educating ourselves in financial intelligence is a good option, it is something that will help us to reduce our unnecessary expenses. Greetings!

Hi dear @adityajainxds
I suffered from this disease for a long time, I remember how I simply wasted my money for years and years, I am very sorry but I can do nothing, just not fall into that disease again, I loved how you described the disease

Hi @adityajainxds

The Pre-payday Poverty Syndrome is very common and definitely the way to avoid it is to plan and control the cash flow.
Without proper planning of your expenses and continuous supervision to control them, the consequence is evident.
Great reading.
Best regards
