Evening

So after years of development, Dfinity a decentralized network branded as 'Internet Computer", has finally gone live. The company, a swiss non-profit company called the the Dfinity Foundation, revealed the project back in 2008 and has already raised $160 million in venture capital.

The project claims to be a essential stack of internet protocols that will fuel future decentralized apps along with unlimited capacity, running at internet speed and highest level of decentralization. Dfinity doesn't constraints itself to crypto related applications, instead it is aiming at a wider audience. The company has already launched LinkedUp a decentralized version of LinkedIn, test versions of WhatsApp and TikTok as a proof of concept.

Instead of relying on AWS or other cloud service providers, Dfinity will utilize data centers around the world to operate standardized computer nodes and reward them proportionally in project's native ICP token as per their share. As of now Dfinity is running on 1300 node across 48 data centers and with 4300 node expected to get operational by the end of the year.

Press Statement by Dfinity Foundation reads:

At its core, the Internet Computer is the world’s first blockchain that runs at web speed with unlimited capacity — solving the ‘blockchain trilemma’ by producing a blockchain network that is decentralized, secure, and scalable.

The Dfinity bold claims of being a revolutionary usurping technology offering unlimited capacity at internet speed and highest decentralization might be juicy, but needs to scrutinized carefully. Having said that, there will always a group of enthusiast getting ready to test the new system. Coinbase has already signaled that ICP token will be immediately open to deposit on Coinbase Pro post launch on 10th May.

All in all, these are exciting times to live in!!!
