🗞 Ether Sets New All-Time High of More Than $3.8K

Ether (ETH), the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum blockchain, continued its recent torrid run, setting a new record price Saturday of over $3,800 amid speculation the network’s value might soar as more traders warm to the potential of decentralized finance, known as DeFi, and other uses like non-fungible tokens or NFTs.

  • The new all-time high price of $3,855.40 came less than a week after the cryptocurrency topped $3,000 for the first time. Ether has since given back some of its gains and is now at $3,839.98, up 8.96% over the last 24 hours.
  • The price of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap has quadrupled just this year alone, outperforming bitcoin (BTC, +0.75%) (BTC), the largest cryptocurrency, which has doubled.
  • Ether now has a market capitalization of $443.8 billion, exceeding that of Johnson & Johnson, as well as that of Walmart and UnitedHealth.

🗞 Dogecoin dumps following mention from Elon Musk on SNL

Meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin finally got its long-awaited shoutout on Saturday Night Live — but despite hodler hopes, the immediate result has been a violent dump.

First teased by entrepreneur and DOGE cheerleader Elon Musk in late April, the Tesla CEO finally mentioned the digital asset on live television tonight in his opening monologue of the sketch comedy show. The reference was a throwaway line from Musk's mother, who joined him onstage and asked if her Mother's Day gift would be Dogecoin; Musk replied that it would be.

In the minutes afterwards, $DOGE dumped upwards of 25%, falling as low as $.50 from $.66 highs at the start of the show. It has since partially recovered, trading at $.52 at the time of publication.

Doge traded hands at $0.50 as of press time, falling 22% after the show began at 11:30 p.m. New York time. On a 24-hour basis, it was down nearly 30%.

🗞 Rari Capital Reports Exploit in ETH Pool; $15M Taken

Rari Capital announced there was an exploit in the Rari Capital ETH Pool related to its Alpha Finance Lab integration. In response, the rebalancer has removed all funds from Alpha.

  • According to Etherscan, $15 million worth of ether was taken.
  • The price of the Rari Governance Token (RGT) fell more than 50% from $17 to $8 before rebounding. It's currency trading at about $12.01.

🗞 Binance US Plans Massive Hiring Spree to Compete with Coinbase

  • Brian Brooks came to Binance US from Washington.
  • He says the company plans to expand very soon.
  • He also believes the exchange will continue to diversify.

Binance US’s new CEO, Brian Brooks, sat down with Decrypt’s Jeff Roberts at this year’s virtual Ethereal Summit to outline the company’s explosive plans for expansion over the coming year.

Brooks said he plans to double the headcount in the next six months by hiring another 75 to 100 people, then increase it to 5x its current headcount in the next 18 months.

“I think it's pretty clear that Binance is the fastest growing exchange in the United States,” he said.
