Elon can now buy BTC with Tesla cars

As promised, Elon is now allowing you to buy their cars with Bitcoin. This marks a huge milestone in mainstream adoption.

Elon Musk has taken this a step further, and has said it will not be converting Bitcoin used to purchase Tesla cars into fiat.

I am extremely bullish about this, not only has Elon Musk shown a commitment to Bitcoin he has shown his hand and went all-in. Not long ago Elon Musk purchased 1.5 billion dollars worth of Bitcoin for Tesla and promised to make their cars available with Bitcoin.

My last post about Tesla I created a fictitious "BTC edition" which priced out a Tesla Model 3 based on the current price of Bitcoin. This post was written about 2 months ago and resulted in a configuration like this.

With the current price of Bitcoin, we can drop the nicer wheels (=$1,500) and opt for the $10,000 Auto Drive system.

"Another Tweet about Bitcoin from Elon Musk may change that, it only needs to get to $59,000 to get a fully loaded Tesla Model 3. Some of the nicer models like the Model X will run you over $135,000 to get fully loaded."

A Redditor made a keen observation that Elon Musk can now buy BTC with Tesla cars which I found amusing and makes for a good headline.

I know @khaleelkazi has said he will buy a Tesla if he took Bitcoin, I never really had any interest myself but I am seriously considering it as Elon has pumped my bags more than enough to cover one.

Although I'd much rather put it into some Tesla Powerwall. A Powerwall serves two purposes, it stores energy to use during peak energy times and charges during off-peak allowing you to pay a lot less for your electricity. It also acts as a generator providing hours or days of power backup, something that is critical in my area as I usually lose power a couple times during the winter.

Tesla will keep the bitcoin too. HUM!
It is something good about to happen.
Glad I have some BTC, trying to get it to one bitcoin.

This news has already been several days old. You just proved your LOW ABILITY AGAIN! I am so worried about you. What you need to do is to stop posting on hive. Otherwise, you just make people laugh.

What else can I say?

Not long ago Elon Musk purchased 1.5 billion dollars worth of Bitcoin for Tesla and promised to make their cars available with Bitcoin.

Some are speculating that it might be as high as $5 billion. Rumors are that, in addition to Tesla, Musk bought some for SpaceX and himself. The later two obviously require no filing with the SEC like Tesla.

This doesn't bring new money into Bitcoin. It takes existing value and transfers it to someone else. A consumer will not purchase Bitcoin, then purchase a Tesla. The consumer will simply use what was needed to purchase the Bitcoin, and use that to purchase the Tesla. Much easier.

Still, Elon is wise to accept Bitcoin in this fashion. He's simply tapping into a market. No different than shipping goods to another country and accepting their currency.

I believe it does, but I am not foolish in thinking people will run out to buy Bitcoin to buy a Tesla. But what if Apple follows suit? What about Google? What about any other rich person with just a 7-8 digit bank account? This is a revolution, this is change. So, while I don't think average Joe is going to buy Bitcoin to buy a Tesla, maybe someone else may start using Bitcoin or better yet buy a shit ton for their balance sheet.

He's simply tapping into a market. No different than shipping goods to another country and accepting their currency.

I disagree, no one has trust issues with another countries currency (well maybe some), but many do with Bitcoin. This makes people comfortable. It makes people think, should I do the same?

Always plenty of ifs, ands, and buts. 100% with you when it comes to improving the image of crypto. 100% agree the 'monkey see, monkey do' effect will come into play. If Elon jumps in the water and doesn't break his neck, everyone else found a new cliff jumping location. If the water's warm, even better.

He also said he's not planning to sell the Bitcoin accumulated from Tesla purchases, correct? This is the funny part about geniuses. He did not say he won't sell the Bitcoin he bought before. evil laugh LOL!

He said he won't convert it to Fiat. Which I wouldn't say is a contract he will never sell it, just he won't systematically sell it as he gets it. But I suspect he is accumulating for the revolution.

I'm 100% sure he'll act in a way that doesn't make it so he screws himself.

It is different. Imagine paying for foods with cryptocurrencies, for example with Hive. This will probably be real one day.

Nowadays everyone can earn cryptocurrencies with their hobbies and passions.

Let's say I'm Asus, the technology brand. I analyze markets. Let's say Hive has hundreds of thousands of accounts with substantial value. The laptops I sell are marked up 30% on average and sometimes higher. I target the Hive market, offering to accept HIVE. I throw in a 5% discount as an incentive. If you purchase my laptops with HIVE instead of cash, you save 5%. Finally! People on HIVE can get flashy new devices with the push of a button!

All that HIVE goes into my ASUS account. I'm basically buying HIVE at a discount since my product sells at a higher value than it costs to make, all while gaining influence over the HIVE chain itself, or I'll sell it. So instead of a 30% markup, I could get.. more. Way more. Can't sell it all as a lump sum though. Other consumers would be loading up wallets (remember, they're getting a "discount"), so they pump the value of the token. Keep in mind, all HIVE that was earned did nothing to pump the value and will not contribute to pushing the value down until there's a reason to get rid of it. I'm that reason (Asus).

It may be old news to hipsters who heard it before your blog but it is definitely big news.

It is such a brilliant market to tap into - the nouveau crypto rich! A brand new market to add to the GREEN conscious rather than wrestle dollars from rich folk who already have decades of brand loyalty with their luxury brand of choice. I drive a Benz but would consider a Tesla just on principal and it speaks to the blockchain part of my brain.

Saying Elon can now purchase bitcoin for Teslas is not only funny, it is a bit of an eye opener as well to look at it from that perspective. Though it may not be a seachange in the economics, it is still a defining moment and they are serving as a cheerleader for other corporate suitors.

I love it!

Once we have stuff priced in crypto rather than the price being converted to crypto from USD, we'll truly have adaptation.

I do not want to buy a Tesla car with Bitcoin, nor with anything else.

I would rather buy foods with cryptocurrencies with zero transaction fees, such as Steem, Steem Dollars (SBD), Hive, Hive Dollars (HBD).

Imagine paying for the bread and milk in the grocery store with cryptocurrencies. Hopefully this will be real one day.

Yeah and the best part is that they won't convert it back to fiat. Nice to have a closed crypto economy.

Awesome to see the crypto world growing into the real world!

Crypto has for a long time been heavily based on the web, barely anything available in the physical world. However, recently there has been a upbeat for crypto in real life, which is great to see because it opens up a more diverse crypto market, including Telsa using bitcoin as a currency for its products.

Go Telsa and go bitcoin!

That is a really cool development. I do wonder though if anyone will actually buy a ehicle with BTC though. Who would be will to part with them? Maybe some whale will come along and do it just to go down in history as being the one...?
Still great media coverage regardless though.

It's surely more symbolic, but I know a few people who will. I actually considered it myself.

Will that powerwall work in extremely low temperatures? If they can make it work in extreme cold, its a no brainer!

It is rated to -4F degrees, but can be installed indoors if these temperatures are normal for your area.
