Open Face Chinese Poker - My favorite way to play Poker

How to play

OFC is very different from normal Poker and some would even argue that it is not Poker at all. You play three hands and try to make the first stronger than the second and the second stronger than the third. For the detailed rules look here. I play pineapple and it is rare to even see non-pineapple played.

Why you should play OFC

You don't have any betting or raising so the psychological aspect of poker is completely missing. All you do is play a game of chance and counting cards and hope you are doing better than your opponent. This is also part of the reason why it never had a great breakthrough: Poker Veterans like Berry Greenstein argued that you could program a computer to play perfect OFC and beat any human over time. He might be right, but it is still really fun laying out a strategy and having to adept it while the game is going on.

Well so far I haven't really argued for but against playing OFC, but let me give you an almost unbeatable upside: You can play OFC Poker for free! I know 'duh, you can play Poker for play money' but anyone who ever played poker knows how awful play money games are. Since you don't have any betting in OFC and just play for points it does not really influence the game, sure people might play safer and you are to a degree adapting to the strength of your opponents hand. But I still run the very same strategy for play money as for real money. There is not really a thing like a bad beat, at least it isn't that meaningful, usually the low-class players don't even know how to build a solid hand in the first place.

Places to play OFC Poker

PPPoker

PPPoker is play money only but I really like the interface especially for Fantasy Land. You can play without registering, just download the app (windows version available) and try out the game, there are about 50 players on at any given time so it is no problem to find a game.

CoinPoker

At CoinPoker you can play for real money, crypto to be exact. The OFC player base of that site is pretty scarce, that is why I am trying to get new people to play with this article :). Still there is at least one opponent on the 5 cent to 50 cent a point level, which is all I need actually.

The crypto transfer to this site is pretty fishy, you have to enter the amount and then a temporary adress is created. Your Bitcoin also gets instantly converted into Tether. Everything worked fine for my 22$ Deposit, but I wouldn't trust this site further than I can throw it. The GUI is also far worse than the PPPoker one.

I had to search for quite some time to find these sites, do you have any better place to play OFC? Let me know if you wanna join the tables, I might tell a few tricks of mine in private ;).

Well, OFC is a good game to play and learn without money, but you are right playing it without any money on the line is taking most of the fun out of it.

I love poker . I used to play it a lot before but I had stopped , now I have resumed playing on Blockchain.poker using BCH .

I have come across OFC many times but I didn't give much though to it , I play only texas hold'em .

I would be interested to learn about OFC more . Also is there any site which accepts Hive lol for poker ?

The best thing is to just try out the game for free, you will learn the rules and pick up a few basic strategies. By far the biggest tip I can give is to look out for your bottom hand and not greed to hard for good top hands/fantasyland, more details on discord if you want, just pm me in the Leo Room.

Also is there any site which accepts Hive lol for poker ?

I would think it has to be a hive project for that. There has been one when I left 3 years ago on Steem, but I never really looked into it.

yes same same in the LeoFinance discord

I cant say I will be in 100%, sure I might give it a look, but often with these Projects the GUI is not really that great, also there is quite the limited player pool. I would sure be down for a session or two of Texas hold em, but I usually play more niche games like 5-card draw, Stud Hi/Lo or OFC. I like limited games, No Limit lets me tilt away all my profits in 30 minutes

Lol , I usually play only No limit . I have a thumb rule of 5% profits per hour if I play .

I agree with all the other points you mentioned . Forget Hive , do you know where I can play with other cryptos ? I would like to resume playing .

Will contact you on discord regarding OFC :)

Well on the top of my head you can play with BTC and Tether on the CoinPoker site I linked in the post.

I don't really have anything else on the radar atm.
