Is eXode Hive's Next Big Thing?

in LeoFinancelast month (edited)

There is so much happening right now, it is truly exciting.

Hive is a little over 13 months old. For the past year, a lot of the focus was upon optimizing the blockchain. The decision to go in this direction created a chain that is highly scalable while very inexpensive, relatively speaking, to operate. It is something that will bode well for the future growth of the chain.

Each week, we are seeing development rolling out at the second level.

We got an announcement about BSCBridge. Released earlier in the week, it was a bridge that allows for direct HIVE-to-BNB swaps. Now, the updated version does the reverse, enabling users to go from BNB to HIVE.

There was also a post put out by @aliquam. Hive is now tied to the Creative Minecraft server Aliquam.org through a plugin. This allows for interaction with the Hive blockchain from the Minecraft game.

Here are a few posts made in the new community formed.

Take a look at some of the amazing stuff being produced within the Minecraft world.

Flying a bit under the radar was an announcement put out by @elindos about eXode. This is a game we heard a lot about a year ago but has since fallen off the radar.

So what is eXode?

A post by @khazrakh really sums it up:

In short, it's a card based space exploration and colonization game. In the year 2325 the human race has colonized its side of the galaxy. Then, out of nothing, an alien exterminator species attacks mankind. Not just one planet, one space station, but the whole of humankind at once. Every new game of eXode puts you back to that exact moment. You are a star captain docked somewhere at a remote space station when the aliens attack. During that Evacuation stage it's up to you to refuel your ship, save as many civilians and cargo as possible, and get out there alive before the aliens blow everything up. If you do manage to survive, you will escape to the other end of the galaxy as mankind's only hope of preventing total extinction.

In order to do so, you'll establish a colony somewhere on an (ideally) habitable planet. Before that, though, you first need to find a suitable planet among the stars. During that short Scanning phase, you will go through different scanning options, see what planets you came out next to, but also check the passengers you managed to bring with you and also deal with the possible damage your ship will have suffered during the escape. Once you found a suitable candidate for colonization, you'll have your pilot land your ship there and start to establish your new colony. This Colonization phase is going to be the major part of the game. Contrary to Evacuation and Scanning, this will be more laid back, more focused on decision making and slowly expanding your colony while dealing with all kinds of threads that might come up.

Essentially it is a space colonization game where all in game assets are established as NFTs. This means players (and investors) can accumulate the cards, swap them, and potentially profit from the growth of the game.

We already know how popular games like these can become due to the success of Splinterlands. eXode might be positioning itself to follow in those same footsteps.

Of course, one of the biggest drawbacks to anything we deal with is the fact that most applications/games/communities on Hive have limited reach outside the ecosystem. It is one thing to become popular within Hive yet an entirely different matter when branching out.

What could make eXode different?

Again we will go to @khazrakh's post for the answer.

eXode is a game first

This is a major difference that is not something we see a great deal of. At present, the cryptocurrency industry is filled with projects to enrich those involved. They range from outright thievery to ponzi schemes to gamified investment strategies. Ultimately, the only thing that matters is the monetary aspect.

All else takes a back seat. The application (or game) is nothing more than a vehicle to that monetary end.

Certainly, that is an acceptable starting point but mass adoption is going to have to extend beyond that. Eventually, we need to switch the priorities where something is utilized for the experience it gives the user with the rewards (monetization) being a bonus.

Gaming certainly could easily fall into this category. In fact, the concept is being applied to eXode.

@elindos is putting together something that shows his passion for what is being created. The blockchain benefits are not the major focus. From what I can see thus far, it is the product itself that is exciting. The market that forms as a result of being tied to blockchain and popularity of the game is an afterthought. That aspect will evolve as the game expands.

Gaming is a competitive arena. The release of the "Colonization" aspect of eXode could be the step that makes it ready for larger appeal. Many like this type of game and with an estimated 2.8 billion gamers out there, we are looking at a rather large target market.

The key is to create a game that people actually want to play. Deferring to @khazrakh on this one, it appears that eXode is on that path. A great deal of the blockchain gaming world is nothing more than money grabs.

Utilizing the advantages to blockchain in a game that could hold appeal to a significant number of players could be a winning formula. Most of us understand the ability to track assets and their value. At the same time, having ownership of them which can be leveraged on a marketplace is also the direction things are going.

Sometimes there is great value in the silence about a project. We know development takes time and the larger the initiative, the longer it takes.

However, if a game that could have mass appeal is developed, providing an interesting user experience along with terrific graphics and artwork, then we could be onto something.

Is eXode that game?

We will see where things go from here. It looks like it is embarking upon another exciting phase.

I bought over 1000 Hive worth over a year ago. So I hope so!

The might end up being a good move if the game becomes very popular.

We will have to wait and see. I will be interested to see how many start posting about their experiences with the Colonization feature.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I got destroyed the first time in the demo because I thought a tutorial would explain it to me but didn't. I got some free cards using a referral so I plan on giving it another try over the weekend after learning more about the mechanics.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

LOL well at least you tried to read the directions.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Awesome. It will be great when we can earn Hive tokens on Minecraft. All the kids will join.

I am far from a Minecraft expert.

How would something like that work? Is it even possible?

Asking out of sheer ignorance about the different layers and how it all could be tied in.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Not sure but many many years ago there was supposedly a way to earn Reddcoin from Minecraft. I could never figure it out. But I did buy some Reddcoins just in case.

Well with the coders and how big it is, I am sure there is a way to do things.

It will be interesting to see where it all goes.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I didn't ever get into Exode. I knew about it, but never got into it when it started. At this point, I figured I was "too late" because that's how blockchain games tend to work. This is good news and I shall check it out.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

You're not too late, it's being consciously designed so anyone can have a decent game experience with a minimal investment, like just a start pack!

Thanks for the input @revisesociology.

Good to see how the development is evolving.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am not sure if it is "too late".

My entry was in the pre-sale and I havent been in as a player. I will be interested to see what you come up with it as you look at it closer.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Same here. I almost bought a starter deck a few months back but decided to to the gold or platinum (whatever the full package is called) but forgot. I think leo distracted me with cub finance...

I should give it another look, too, especially if I can have fun with it without a serious upfront investment.

Great. And would be great to see more and more games here, as in my understanding, few if any other blockchains can support the high rate of transactions (and zero fees) that a real game requires.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That might be true about the rate of transactions.

I do know that Eth is killing games, especially with NFTs, since they are impossible to move. Is anyone going to move 100 NFTs at $50 apiece?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Looks like sci-fi games are winning in the game chain scene.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Define winning?

It seems to me that nobody is really winning at this point since the numbers appear small.

That could change rapidly and hopefully eXode helps that along.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Oh, I mean, I see a lot of SciFi games lately and the ones attracting more players.

But yeah, compared to traditional games, even Alien Worlds (>200k players) are rookie numbers. I see a bright future for play2earn games, cannot wait for it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Hopefully a few of those play2earn success stories are on Hive.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I was checking out Exode when it was first being promoted. At the time it just looked a lot like a money grab to me. You needed to buy the cards to get started and they didn't really even have a game yet. I understand now, they were probably just trying to get the funds to start the development, but at the time it was a turn off for me. It is cool to see that they are still kicking around and trying to make something great here. I might have to give it another look.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Wow, I am not very familiar with this world of videogames but it is seen that they are making a great effort and that target or niche is not sufficiently explored or exploited by the blockchain.
hopefully today if you go the other way, and wow, a minecraft add-on is great how many children don't love minecraft, possibly that will take us to another level.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I bought some Packs very early, looking forward to playing them :))

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Hope you ascend to the top of the leaderboard.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Hopefully exode replicates Splinterlands and even break out to the outside world.
More games more exposure outside Hive the better.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Well I am not playing favorites. I hope Splinterlands is a huge success also.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I'm looking forward to it. I love games like this they really add into my packratting and harvesting in games lol. But now I get to harvest crypto! Win win!!

I mean people laughed about harvesting XLM in alienworlds. I converted it all on the rally for over $1000 in WAX and now staking lol

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

You da man. LOL

I am not much of a gamer, got involved more as an investor.

However, there is huge potential, I am aware of that. I would love to see more feedback as people start to experience the game itself.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Interesting message! I really hope for a great future Exodegame

I'm looking forward to testing this next phase out, although being realistic I think we're looking at 2022 or maybe even 2023 for a mostly bug free version.

The general rule with Exode releases is to multiply by three any release date Elindos comes up with.

It's a lot of work after all.

I think some of the cards could do very well on the NFT market! Some of them are beautiful.

I am willing to wait. I think Elindos does a terrific job especially for being one person.

This is one of those developments that is really deep and you can see the quality of it. This means time, and lots of it.

Maybe it will be the next big thing for Hive in 2 years.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It's impressive what he does on his own, but he needs to employ a team and take on an oversight role if the game is really going to take off.

Best thing he could do from a financial perspective is team up with Splinterlands if you ask me.

Behind the scenes I'm sure there are huge similarities in the code base.

User's experience and all prerequisite that determines a great game when it comes to gaming is really the real deal, i've seen a lot of games on hive that didn't quite cut it, hopefully expose will different

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think that is true for most of blockchain. A lot of games didnt cut it because they were focused upon the monetary aspect almost exclusively and not the game itself.

Hopefully eXode keeps moving towards a tremendous user experience.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah, I keep looking for that game that would blow my mind, I believe the money aspect for these developers would come, i'll be looking out for exode.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thank you for informing us about tall new exiting progress

I lack the excitement and enthusiasm for games that I had when I was a kid, I think those are essential if you want to have an enjoyable gaming experience. But if this games succeeds in attracting a lot of players to the blockchain I'll be very happy even if I miss out on jumping in early

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

If it succeeds, it will help all your other holdings on Hive.

Thus it helps you out.

Amazing 1.jpg

eXode can become an addictive game. Yes, it is game first as far as we can see now.

I am a bit afraid to dive in. It could consume you :)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Have you played around with it much? Or just looked at the site?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I bought several packs when it was announced. Last year ...?

Then I played a bit the first mission, escape something. It was a proper full-blown game. Extremely well done graphically, smooth animation, the whole package. Dynamics, 3D models, story, ... Cards (NFTs) were just a way to tie the game to the blockchain and monetize it.

Then I got scared that the game will be too addictive :)

Then nothing happened for a long time.

Now, I'll dare to take a look :)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think there are so many good things going on at Hive that it’s difficult to predict what the next "boom" will be, haha!

I am unreasonably excited about this game.

Thanks a lot for the mention, really appreciate it!
Two more days until testing season starts :D

I'm new to Exode and it's nice coming across articles like this showing love for the project. I'm happy as a clam to have been able to take part in the Alpha. Even happier since I got a planet! :)
