How To Make It on Hive - The Curious Case of @Taskmaster4450
A lot of people have said to me in the past that hive is just a place where you can shitpost and make some money for it. That you don't really need to build an audience, or that everything you do here is mainly seven days and gone.
And you'd be right. For most people that's true. We write a post and then just move onto the next one. And let's be honest with ourselves, this is the case isn't it. I am guilty as charged too. There was once a time where I'd just churn out a post and done. No real care for it whatsoever. There's no real focus, or drive, or history, it's usually a random - whatever you think of at the time post - and that's it! Boom, done.
Now I can't fault anyone for doing this. It's a great way to start the craft of writing. You guys have no idea how much enjoyment I get from crafting these posts. A lot. When I write I am in my zone. I actually wish I had started on a place like this than the fiercely competitive market that is WordPress and the real web. My run up to writing would have looked a lot differently.
So you make a post and bam, done.
Or, it could be argued that you can start off with a shitload of stake and be popular anyway. Rig the influencer game so to speak. People on here gravitate to those with all the stake. That is where the opportunities are. In all honesty I wouldn't have the Man Cave if it weren't for my whale buddy. So I'm not knocking whaledom.
But if you want to be a bigwig in this community really quickly then the best way to do that is buy a Million hive and then start writing. You will find yourself a lot of friends (and enemies) really fast. I wouldn't recommend it if you're one of these equality chumps, because things at the top can get quite dicey, and you'll find yourself making decisions that you don't agree with but have to do so to benefit your community (or audience). If you don't then you'll just fail. The end. Look at every project ever that's acted with self-interest and come back to me afterwards.
So what about @taskmaster4450? Why is this guy doing so well? He tells me that he started off with a relatively low sum on here and now he sits with quite a bit. One of my big friends that has actually made a start with blogging, and doing well for it.
And he has an actual audience here. Crazy huh? People like his posts and he has an audience.
Want me let you into his secret? Because I've been watching him for a while now. It's pretty neat what he does.
Okay, so when you hit on a @taskmaster4450 post - do you know why you are going to his posts? Or is it like, uh, I wonder what he's talking about today?
I know what I'm going for there. I REALLY know what I'm going to get. A well thought out post about modern technology and the moves we're taking towards for the future.
So he's "branded" himself for a start. He's the guy I go to read whenever I'm interested in what technology is up and coming. He's also a great read for whenever I'm interested in new hive things.
We know what to expect! And it's not shite! Do you read psychologytoday.com to get food tips? Nope. Think about this for a while. We're not that complex of beings. We go to where we like for information and we tell our friends.
My friends @xawi and @burlarj for example can stick to writing in-depth splinterlands tips. Not how you played, but "how to" play. That's something I could use myself for example. Look at how @trumpman has branded himself. His content is short, and not a Pulitzer prize winning piece but god damnit his tips are awesome -- even if he comes off as a little bit liking the men a little too much!
So now what?
Well, every influencer worth their salt must have some sort of indication of amplification. In the mainstream world that would look a bit like, "Hey, look at my work, isn't it great? Can I be your friend?" -- on hive it's a little bit different, but not dissimilar.
On hive it's about what you bring to the table. So not only does @taskmaster4450 write and video himself like a professional (although he does look a bit like a bouncer with that bald head), but he conducts himself through our networks also.
Taskmaster was instrumental in the beginning of the cave. He believed in what we were doing so he mucked in with us -- most of us that have had the fortune to connect with him know that if he likes what we're doing he'll join us. Think of it like he see's that we're all picking up wood to build a house, and knowing he has the strength for it, he comes along and joins us.
So we all know baldy in some way. Whether that's reading him or that he's got involved with us.
Taskmaster is also consistent. I often wonder how that dude has enough time to write 4 posts, host leo-market-talk and still have time to be on interviews and podcasts. That's the real deal right there. You cannot be successful if you only use this from time to time. And that's fine if you do, but don't expect to make any splash.
And that's it. That's all you need to be successful on hive.
- People know what they are coming to you for.
- Willingness to help, be known, and have something to offer.
- Consistency
That's it, that's all you need
I was once the guy that you came to for life stuff, but I feel that falls on deaf ears in this community. Plus I somehow feel that this community is one of the largest red-pilled communities on the entire web, so me speaking about achieving your goals is somewhat a moot point. Most people are trying to do just that here in their own way.
But I still want to be inspirational. I kind of like being someone that throws out interesting ideas out there for people to digest and maybe apply later. I absolutely don't do what everyone else is doing.
That is boring.

How are you defining red-pilled? I’ve encountered people that fit that description by the definition I know, which is more or less Q grade delusion, but I haven’t noticed such an abundance that the balance seems skewed.
My experience here has mostly been with down to earth forward thinking people who just want a level playing field where people can lift themselves and others above and beyond.
Edit to add: he does look like a bouncer. It took me weeks after becoming an every day reader to be able to watch his videos. He reminded me so much of Hank from Breaking Bad I couldn't hear what he was saying. I just saw a fucking DEA agent.

I mean red-pilled in the since of there is a massive distrust of media and government. That is all! I've heard of this Q-thing but I have no idea what it's about.
Your experience is my experience too.
Qanon is, from what I’ve gathered, one or more assholes who use the human condition of gullibility (i.e. generic “faith” in this case) to sling nonsense and conspiracy theory to charge the simple-minded.
For example, the cult of personality of Trump is highly supported by Q. It’s basically a lightening rod for people who want to ignore reality in pursuit of whatever bs they want to believe in any given moment.
So the term red-pilled means what you said but it has a very hard right wing lean to it. It’s often a rallying point for fascist and the like. This is my understanding from what I’ve gathered over the last year or so.
Hmm. Red pilled to me means more so anti-government, anti-media. Not listening to the narrative and making your own mind up. If you look at the four years Trump was in power all the media did was sling mud at him for the entire time.
But when you step back from all the bloated opinion about his "racism" and "sexism" and blahdeblah, you'll find out things like he was anti-war. Saved a lot of troops he did.
Did I like Trump? Nah, they are all the same. Under him the worst predatory laws the cryptoworld has ever seen for the USA emerged. So much so that Americans aren't allowed to join ICO's. SEC is a far overreach of power.
But to me Presidents are all the same. Little puppets that take massive donations from the corporations that control them. If you look deep enough into it then you'll see that the corps play both sides of the fence lobbying for and against different things.
So I'm an outlier. I exist outside the narrative. There is no good or bad president, or rape culture, or sexism, or racism that the media and the presidents that parrot them say. I look at a president, or a media article with high skepticism and doubt, and see past the "opinion" and get to the facts.
Basically, I took the red-pill and saw the matrix for what it really is -- which is where the term comes from ;)

This used to be the case. Now it’s all in the open and it’s one of my biggest issues with Trump supporters. They act like he “exposed” that corruption for the good of the American people, rather than conceed the reality that he did it because hes a crooked egomaniac getting richer at the expense of the well being of everyone else.
I’m not trying to go on an anti-trump rant, thought. Any of that can be said about any of them. The dems showed that when the people asked for Bernie and the party decided straight up NO! I have issues with him, too, though, so I'm not pumping him, but the fact that the party went against the people speaks volunes.

Yeah, I'm not familiar with the hijacking of the term red pill, or the term Q-anon. I know they exist but that's as far as I go. I really don't care to know either.
What really annoys me is that everyone seems to link things to the extreme these days. I tell my friends I am red-pilled and some of them think, woah, so you are an extremist then?
And I laugh because I'm probably a little left of centre. Right economically, and a little left socially.

Yeah... I've been accused of being a radical because I think weed, euthanasia, and, prostitution are personal choices and should be legal or that "gay rights" aren't something that we have the right to legislate for others.
Regarding the left, right, center discussion, I'm none of the above. I'm fiscally conservative, in that I don't think we should spend frivolously, socially liberal, in that see above, and center should be the term we use to describe the position of those who want to do no harm and just be left alone.
Language is an amazing thing. As a species it seems we've taken to calling things whatever gets an emotional reaction in any particular moment, despite what those terms really mean. But maybe it's just so dominant in my culture it seems to encompass us all.
It's such a carzy time we live in now it's getting hard to know the difference between up and down, lol.
I think that's me too. I may just be centre then. I just want to be left alone.
I am probably a bit left economically of you because if it weren't for the state and generous charitable donations to charities I'd probably still be licking windows about now lol
Oh, I don’t mean I’m opposed to social programs or charity. I feel like those things are the floor for modern society. I mean fiscally conservative in the sense that we should get something of value for our money. Keeping people fed and healthy definitely falls into that category for me, as if people are starving they’ll murder me for my shoes and I’m agin that. 😜
My issue with spending comes down to things like bribing district x with money for a statue so they’ll sign off on a tax break for struggling families and things of that nature.
Of course, I do realize things are always far more complicated than that, but that doesn’t mean that kind of frivolous spending doesn’t occur.
When you become red-pilled, you enter the Desert of the Real.
It's not a fun or pretty place, and it doesn't care what you think about it. In the most absolute sense, "it is what is it."
Rarely-- if ever-- will it match or coincide with the learned or received wisdon we had acquired before entering the Desert of the Real.

Write for your audience, that is important. What does the masses want? What are they interested in? What can be conveyed in an article?
All of this is basic stuff in the blogging/journalism world. Yet, for the most part, it hasn't carried over onto here.
Hopefully with the push into SEO and some other initiatives such as articles like this, we will see more of it.

I think you nailed that one. Providing value is key. My post was delving into that. I guess we could rename it -- how does Taskmaster provide value here to become successful?
This gave me an idea. I thought about it before but not seriously:
Since I want to write what about my day-to-day interests, I figured my self-branding is too wide to promote which made me rely on Hive's Communities instead of my account for exposure. You can imagine how little interaction that meant.
The idea is: Write things I can provide link towards outside of hive. I comment a lot on YouTube lately, so I should turn my comments into posts, and link to the post version.
Not a new idea but I never thought of it seriously.

It simply starts with dedication for me. I believe that we all have a part to play on Hive and I am intent on doing mine. As they say, I cant sing or dance so I do what I can. Developers will code, I type in a different way. But in the end, we all are helping to move Hive forward.
I appreciate where you are coming from with this article. It is the pathway to success. I wish more newer people would take this to heart, dive in head first and just keep churning out the best content they can. After a while, people will end up finding them, especially in the tribes.

Very true. I have been following his blog posts for a few years now and am grateful for the work that he puts in on this blockchain.
I made the decision a while back to put in solid effort on every post and as you put it, "muck it out". It has made a world of difference for me. I used to be happy that I mined a bit of crypto by typing. Now it feels like I am building a career. World of difference. @taskmaster4450 had a big influence on my charted course.

Wow, I already knew all of these but having it with an example that I can relate to is eye opening! As for me, I realize the importance of branding and consistency, but I also want to be free from them.
I'd rather write on what I'm interested in (at the moment) here than make a lot of money. (I still want to make a bit of money though.)

I've been pretty much reading his blog posts daily. I'm really grateful for the wisdom I'm gleaning off of it.
I've learned a lot and also, in a way, it really helps to watch someone discuss these topics in a deadpan, yet thoughtful way. Taskmaster has a cadence to his voice that's direct and efficient with great "word economy", as well as thought provoking.
It is a boring topic, and he doesn't speak explosively or with flair and dramatics, but is still very interesting for me.

This had been my thought as well when i was new to hive, but i later realized that there is more than to just posting for the votes, and that was how i stopped it and turn my attention into how i can really improve myself here on hive. Sincerely i have learnt alot from hive, and it's making sense to me than all the wasted times and days that i was doing facebook..

When I first started browsing Hive, one of the first users I followed was @taskmaster4450. He really demonstrates that he has a mastery of the subject he is writing about and his views are quite appealing when it comes to analysis and comparison.
Besides that, to my taste he has a clear, simple and yet detailed writing style, that if you don't learn or understand the idea is because you definitely have problems...hahahahaha.😀
And yes, I am part of your audience. I can be on Hive, LeoFinance, POB or whatever interface and I come across a post by this guy and it's a must read for me.
On the other hand, I share what you say about being consistent and this is the key to success: consistency involves coherence, discipline, persistence and believing in what you want and working for and for that.
