How Does It Feel To be In A Growing Industry Whilst The rest Of the World Burns?

I feel bad for my friends

My real life friends, you know?

Sitting on Facebook, posting shit all day, arguing with random people over some hollow Political party with plenty of promises yet very slim on deliveries.

It's kind of disgusting every time I look back onto that hell hole and all I see is Friends tearing each other apart. Real solid people, you know? Ripping each other a new one. Because of some random thing they said over the internet.

I guess at the heart of it all is escapism. Their online life is only a reflection of what they are trying to hide from in the real world.

I've tried to show them Hive. This is the future I keep telling them. This is the place that's going to turn the media megacorps on their head.

But proof of brain is always quite hard to get your head around. If you're like me then the first thought to PoB is to think, "free fuckin' money, I'm up for that," but alas, too many people try and get wrapped up in the workings of such and blow a fuse before they even get started.

You don't have to have a Finance degree to use money. Likewise you don't need to understand the inner workings of the federal reserve and how money is created to earn and use it, right? It's similar with crypto when you are learning.

Hive is one of the most decentralised platforms in all of blockchain. If you look at most other projects there is some form of centralisation in place. Take Ethereum for example, it is decentralised of course, but what happens when the government comes knocking at the Ethereum foundation's door? Same with Binance? What happens if the government shuts CZ down? Is Binance Smart chain still a thing? These are questions you need to consider when using Hive.

What happens when the government knocks at hive? Who do they contact? We have no founding members, no team in place, no mass storage of pre-mined coins, just a community. It is essentially like Bitcoin, a completely decentralised open market blockchain. In hive, we are creating something very new, and very up and coming.

On our Interview with Dan the other week he said that he expects decentralised spaces in the future to be worth a shitload of money.

You see, we are at the dawn of something special. If you were to compare this to the dot com boom then we won't even be started yet. People are always telling me that they missed the boat with bitcoin and that they should have gotten in when I had told them to do so. But I always tell them that we're just getting started. Only this boom some of institutional finance aped in but we are yet to see interest from anything on the mainstream front. When your local charity shop is accepting bitcoin (or other currencies) that's when you know we are there. And we are a long way off from that.

The horizon for cryptocurrency has only just began to emerge. This period in time is like the break of dawn. The millisecond before the light is about to appear, a few minutes before the Sun. We are just about to give birth to something amazing and incredible. All of us are.

That's why I feel bad for my friends. 99% of them don't understand it. And a similar percentage to that don't want to understand it. They are quite happy to be passed from pillar to post in the rat race that is the jobs market. As an example when I was a newly qualified community teacher it was quite easy to get a job, but after the crash no-one was hiring. I spent an entire two years in the unemployment pool before I landed something.

I asked my old friends in the Job Shop (yes, I once was a civil servant), and they tell me that applying for jobs is like a needle in a haystack. The easier the job the higher the number of applicants, and everyone is currently out of work right now. I remember one ex colleague telling me there was ten thousand applicants for one position. Ten thousand. That's fucking insane.

I feel on the same hand the labour market is on the downturn. What was once a thriving and bustling industry (and one that I could freely move in and out of) is now on the rapid decline. We are starting to see the gentle move towards working at home in jobs that can be worked at from home rather than the corner office in the busy high-rise in central downtown.

And oh boy is automation coming, and with it a bloodbath of unemployment and destitution in its wake. That's not to say that it won't once again make all our lives a lot easier, but like the industrial revolution a couple of hundred years ago we will see masses of unemployment and people wondering where the rug got swept from under their feet and why they didn't see it coming. If I were you I'd look into investing into automation products.

@taskmaster4450 regularly talks to me about the metaverse, and how you and I in the future will exist in virtual reality and this will be the evolvement of humans to a certain extent. I can't say I disagree with him, I am just waiting to pounce on a fully fledged cryptocurrency meta product. I went all in to a project called Staramba back in the day. A cryptocurrency project that promised to take the world by the balls in the metaverse, however it was hit by a long wall of laws that prevented it from making progress.

The key to making money in this field, and also perhaps this world is not to look at what we are doing now, but to look at what's being built now and what kind of future technology will that enable us to build. It's not about now, it's about tomorrow. That's the key to bag holder investing like I do.

So I will continue to try and gently persuade my friends to start something in this space, and they will continue to call me a tin foil hat person, but alas, if I can save at least one of my friends from being another statistic in the mad dash to the future then my job is done.

20 years from now, "work" will look incredibly different from how it does today. With automation and AI, many humans will simply not be needed to do the amount of work that needs doing. Whether that means a 20-hour work week will become "standard" or we end up with a 100% "Gig Economy" remains to be seen...

As for what we're doing here, I'm thinking we're about where the Internet was when there were 50-75 million users. People could appreciate it's potential (rather than outright rejecting it) but mostly fell back on their "Oh, it's just a place for gamblers looking for porn, gamers and creepy pedophiles looking to abduct our daughters."

Give it another five years and we'll be in the middle of widespread mass adoption.

=^..^=

Yup. Exactly how I feel. We might even see a gig economy on the metaverse. Who knows what sort of amazing (and downright sadistic) stuff could appear.

I feel the same way about a lot of the things you mentioned.

I still log in to Facebook from time to time because I have a guitar-related group there that I really enjoy being a part of. We also have a great Guitar community here on Hive so I'm constantly trying to bring them over, but they just won't give up that toxic space that is Facebook. And, while I still go there to interact with them I feel like I'm wasting every minute I spend there.

The same goes for the job market. I see a lot of people spending their life savings and some more to get fancy MBAs and certifications so they have a chance to make progress on a job they often hate and it's killing them from inside.

I do have a day job that I happen to like, but I always ask myself if this is the road I see myself taking in the long run.

Ah, I feel exactly the same way you know? Everywhere I go in that shithole it seems Politics has infested it in some form. I just want somewhere to escape from all that bs. That's why I love hive so much -- I think most of us here came to escape but found a hidden gem instead.

Exactly! I had no idea what a great community we have going on here!

I was just telling the guys on our daily Leo Market Talk how incredibly revigorating it is for me to wrap up a long day of work and come here to learn more about crypto and the blockchain and interact with other like-minded people.

So, so, so agree with you there my friend. I was absolutely close to completely dumping Facebook and all my other media until the wife asked me to stay.

The clincher being that she doesn't use any of it much herself -- she just wanted to paste interesting articles about autism from time to time. Hah! But that shit is to a minimum these days.

"I think most of us here came to escape but found a hidden gem instead."

Very much so! I was angry at FB when I found Steem... and knew enough of blockchain tech to realize it was a big deal... then nothing ever really happened there... until someone stirred a hornets' nest and HIVE happened.

Hive was the best thing to happen to us. Steem stagnated for 3 years and everyone milked it. Now there's Hive and we're all building :)

You friends will be involved "sooner or later".

I have been saying this for years. All will end up in crypto at some point. It is just a matter of when.

The best time to join crypto: 10 years ago.

The second best time to join crypto: today.

Totally agree. 10 years ago was absolutely the best time to join. You could have harvested a thousand Bitcoin for pennies back then. But now is still the beginning. Jesus, we haven't even began to make waves yet :)

Same. I think it's probably appropriate to consider it early until everyone curses BTC as a shitcoin.

Hahaha. I think BTC will be the new gold :)

I kinda think it is now, but once the new wears off and people see how lacking in functionality it is compared to others, it’ll end up being the hated step child no one wants but everyone has to use because everyone uses it.

Disagree I think. The more power that's added to the network the more stable it becomes. Right now it's the most powerful network out there imo. But then again I'm an idiot, so there's that! Hah

Yes,definitely, but I mean in terms of through the ages. BTC kicked off the new era, but I think as people cozy up to crypto in general they'll have the one or several they use daily and one that everyone uses. I only us U.S. $ at this point because it's what everyone takes. If I could hold Yen and spend it as easily when strong vs the $ being weak, I would but my local bank isn't set up for it, nor would anyone local accept it as payment. Crypto changed all that. Now I can hold and spend based on the market rather than just my corner of it. Of course we all know that but the point is I think btc is the us $ in this scenario. Once no one has to use it they’ll find something they like better. Maybe not in my lifetime but sometime.

It feels pretty good, I feel shit because I have a stack of fiat that I want to dump in here but can't due to house build.

I know I'm missing out on reaching my million dollar target and despite my questions with the bank about allowing me to spend it and repay it before it is required they're constant NO we won't borrow you the cash is annoying.

Perhaps one day, when the dust settles and the home is completed there will be another Leo Fiance project for me to ape into.

My current $5000 isn't generating me enough and I want more! Lol

Don't panic too much - there are still awesome things to come out. If you don't get in now then you can get in later.

I believe psychologists talk about a "bias toward normalcy" which means we try to fit what we experience into what is already familiar. In a crisis, such as hearing a gunshot or a seeing a tsunami, people hesitate because their mind can't believe something unusual is really happening. Sounds like most of our friends, right? !BBH

That's pretty much the case. Familiar is safe. Out there is where the scary stuff is.

It's well documented in the business world that if you don't shed a little of your bias towards normalcy and jump out and see what's out there then you're going to have a hard time keeping up.

So true! I am glad I came here to read it. I've been trying to convince many of my friends photographers to join Hive (back then Steemit). I even held "offline" presentations to more than a hundred of people in the three biggest cities in Bulgaria few years ago, prior the Covid madness. Some of them tried the platform, a few are still here and post almost every day, to which I am very happy. I've been recently notified by @hivebuzz it is my third birthday on the platform. The truth is I am in a love-hate relationship with Hive but that's just me, being an introvert, watching people sometimes do things lead by money and sex, instead of the greater good. Moreover, I think Hive isn't really 100% decentralized. A lot of dapps we use on a daily basis and we depend on are somewhat centralized.
Another "characteristic" of Hive is the lack of written general rules and I guess it will always be that way due to the fact those with the most HP define the rules. So those rules could be changed anytime in an instant. I'm not saying this is bad, it's just the way it's gonna be.
Theoretically, if Bill Gates, or any other person who has more than those USD 145M, the apprx. market cap of Hive, buys them off the exchanges, could come here and start enforcing their own rules.
Freedom of speech? There is some but not a full freedom. Yes, you could publish anything and it cannot be deleted but again, if the whales don't like what you do and start downvoting you, it will soon be hidden once your reputation becomes negative.

Long story short, I love Hive and I believe the future is here and now but we should work on tuning it and making it better by investing more (time, quality original content and resources) and share our opinion and suggestions :)

Have a great day!

Well that's what I love about open source. Maybe you don't. But it's like what happens in a hierarchical world.

A person will create a basic structure and throw it out there. Maybe a bigger kid will come along and claim that frame for himself and set the rules. Maybe that bigger kid will spend years fending other people off from his precious structure, or, like on hive, he will invite other people to come along and build on it.

Yep, nothing is free from tyranny in this world. Bill gates can come along and spend $150 Mil on buying up the extra coins on the market and rule over us -- but then what happens to the price of hive? What if blocktrades, or whoever thinks fuck this, time to move again. We get a fuckload of $$$ from our hive to put into said new chain. It's happened before, we are well adept to dealing with dictators.

Freedom of speech isn't free from consequence though. Think of it in the real world. If you shout out something down town and a couple of gangsta's don't like what you're saying? what happens then? Are you invulnerable? Or do you expect the proper consequences? That's what happens in the real world.

It's the same with hive - if people don't like what you are saying then you get a downvote. But it's not the same as completely vanishing you. That's censorship :)

Indeed! All valid points. Of course, there are societies where you can shout almost everything and that's ok. Look how French people do strikes and riots almost about everything, that's in their nature and I love that. I spent about two decades of my life under the tyranny of the communist dictatorship and I am perhaps a bit more sensitive to some matters :) Back in those times people were sent for years into labor camps and prisons just for telling a joke about the Leader.

Damn, I've read about that stuff happening. I once lived in Russia in 1981-85. My father was contracted over to work with their nuclear power. I was too young to understand, but that sounds very harsh indeed.

I honestly try to avoid getting the majority of people I know no Hive because I honestly don't want that drama or drivel on here. There have been a couple that I have tried to talk into starting up and account but for the most part they just smile and nod at me. It is never anything serious.

Hehe. I remember being called a nerd because I loved toying with this new fangled internet thingy way back in 1996, and here we are. Everyone uses it now.

Now I'm playing with the new fangled thing again and it's the same story all over again lol.
