People are 'Scared' of Blockchain and Decentralization in General, For Now

Doing whatever you want with your finances, whenever you want. Without having to jump through a million tiny hoops, complying to nitpicky rules, limited by maximums and minimums. Sounds like something out of a fairytale, and yet it isn't. It's a possible reality right in front of us, provided by blockchain technology. Absurd as it may seem, people are not flocking in masses to this opportunity of a lifetime. Why is that? Well, there are many possible reasons. One being lack of awareness. Not many people outside of tech initially know about blockchain, partly because it probably looks like Latin to most. Hive is the exception in this, providing a familiar use case in content creation which gives literally anyone the ability to be active and interact with a blockchain, learning along the way. This is the way we should be headed, if we ever want mainstream adoption. Applications of blockchain without all of that complicated stuff on the surface level.

But even then, in the case of Hive at least, people I speak to are hesitant to join. Meanwhile they're on facebook all day every day, feeding F-uckerbergs data stream. Strange, isn't it? But not really. It is common for people to not want to step outside their comfort zones. Change is scary and not everyone is as brave to embrace it. Some are waiting for what everyone else is going to do. This is not surprising, as it is a clear fact that the world consists more of followers than free-thinkers. A follower is by definition biased towards any system that's centralized and wary of whatever is not. When the internet first came around, people were also wary, and some refused to give up on using their fax machines, even though the use of emails was obviously the superior and logical choice. All because they had to leave what they know and step into the unknown.

But I'm not worried, sooner or later, everyone will make the step. The brave will be first, leading by example. And then the rest, finalizing the decentralized revolution and putting unnecessary centralized entities to rest.

It's an uphill battle, for sure. I've been trying to bring some people over from Facebook but they are indeed very reluctant. I hope the transition happens sooner rather than later but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Every time bitcoin starts spiking people get more interested. So let's hope that interest increases over time.
