My tale of under $200 Hive account, Is I am demotivated?

avatar
(Edited)

I am one of the user that joined Crypto space after Dec -2017 boom and in reality I have many friends who had purchased bitcoin on the price range of 15K-17K. For some reason, I did not FOMOed at all ,and took a very opposite approach ,let's dig out the thing that has so huge potential that can go on breaking barrier on the price and reports are claiming that it can reach upto million dollars per Bitcoin.

My journey started by learning about Bitcoin from Mastering Bitcoin Book and Mastering Blockchain and in the meantime I come to know about alt coins also. Steem attracted me because it look to me a perfect place to "learn ,earn, share and enjoy" (At least from top it look like but after posting I learnt some harsh reality like bid bots and circle jerk. I also see the great potential in blockchain that have 0 transaction fees. I think who want to pay the part of his hard earned money in transaction fees when it can be securely transferred by paying no fees at all?

With confidence in platform I purchased some $150 worth of Steem (I guess 175) and along with my existing SP , I am little shy of $200 account at that time. Now My HP and Hive grown many folds (may be 7x) but I am still shy of $200 account.

So am I demotivated now?
Wow! almost close to 3 years and you are standing on same "Dollar" value with all your labor does not look cool at all but the fundamentals of blockchain are still same for me.(0 transaction fees, bid bots gone and "learn and earn" is also valid. So Blockchain is not disappointing me on the fundamentals.

When I read the post like this , It make my belief strong that we are underutilized and underestimated in this race.

When I see the success of Leofinance and splinterland's it give me belief that blockchain has all tool to create a successful enterprise.

When I see the lot of users engaging with each other it give me felling of "Hive is alive".

When I find that lot of user earn more in Hive than doing real life job in their failed economies of country then it show me that Hive is real lifeline to them.

So What?
Onus lies on us completely to use Hive and build in Hive and keep promoting the marketable feature of Hive. Though I am also not happy with the complex curation curve in Hive, lack of proper communication and some "gossip ideas" that some top stakeholders/witness of Hive put forward without doing any homework/groundwork on it.

The price of Hive is really just due to all that major drama that occurred between Steem and Hive... If the chain had never forked the value of Steem would have been significantly greater for us all, we also would have earned more rewards. Of course bad actors just ruin the fun sometimes. It's OK, don't lose faith on DPOS, its a tough ride to grow but I'm sure things will improve!

I am not at all depressed by Hive price. It is more about features of Hive that get overshadowed by weak price.

It all comes down to users. Over time, the features will be what attracts people to this place.

Leofinance is the first to start the process. Hopefully we will see a great deal more following.

I disagree.

The split from Steem was like getting paroled. Hive has come further in the 7 months in operation than what we saw in the last 3 years under Steemit Inc.

Hive is now free from that oppression and the results are up to us. The community is now responsible and they are aware of it.

I agree, but I personally don't like some of the people who are developing/leading certain tribes on Hive because of their mistreatment of others when they were on Steem. I don't want to mention any specific names (due to predictable backlash) but the roving band of elitist downvoters on Steem during the controversy was a real turn off for me. I don't trust 'those' devs.

Steemit is under new management with Justin Sun's people, so it's not like how it was under Ned's "Leadership". Regardless of what people think about Sun, Steem, before the fork, was toxic. Maybe now that the "toxic" have separated themselves with these two chains perhaps finally there can be proper discord. I think Tokens really helped separate these passionate communities, which is also a good thing for stability even on the Hive chain. That's just my two cents, It's water under the bridge now.

I agree, Hive is now free to be more open and form its own thing, which is good.
Steem and Hive will forever be locked in a battle of who will be the best, and I will be active on both.

At least with Hive, I actually bought into it vs just growing naturally like when I made my first Steem account back in 2016.

I'm optimistic, and I'm liking Leo as well.

For me, I would say the split between Steem and Hive was for the good of the both chains. Expansion is here. Certainly after 12 months down the line, we'll see significant growth. As for Hive, the second layer is something great to reckon with.

There is a bloodbath all around the cryptocurrency world, and Hive isn't an exception... I know that it is a lame excuse, but as you said, there is a lot of development on the chain, and it is just a matter of time when Hive will change its direction...

Thanks Zoltan.

I am just wondering if we start creating something in Hive using it's awesome features then it will be great.

I had some Tesla stock that I bought in a few different trances. My timing, at least initially, wasn't great and I was down for a long time.

Then the end of 2019 hit and the stock moved up so that I had a nice profit. To make matters even better, 2020 came into being and the stock went apeshit crazy.

When playing the long game, make sure you are in the long game and not trying to make a decision too early.

Yours Tesla example is strong belief in fundamentals.

Charts plotter show you the low in chart, high in chart and the profit you can make. In actual life nobody can really predict ATL and ATH. You just need to hold in all the times and it's sound belief in fundamentals that gives the strength to hold in the bear market.

It is curious and at the same time bizarre to see that the dollar amount is the same as when you started your journey here.

Unfortunately as we know, HIVE is very underestimated and it can be said that it is also undervalued. The wide variety of things we can create in the Hive ecosystem is incredible. I still believe that HIVE will have its value by right and I hope there is no need to wait for long. The important thing is to accumulate as much as we can until then hehehe ...

But I am now much richer on second layer created on top of Hive, so still is rewarding to be in Hive.
I look Leo/splinterlands created on Hive , not like LEO vs Hive. I believe it is robustness of Hive that allow you to create something nice.

In the real sense, Hive has been underutilized. But thanks to active communities like LeoFinance, Hivelist and Clicktrackprofit who are showing off a way to go as per expanding the reaches of the Hive blockchain. Soon, many witnesses and dapp developers would take up the challenge and change for the better. On the worth of your account, I believe your second layer Holdings would boost your overall Hive account worth.

My second layer holding are now really have more value then the Hive.
I just hope that "Witness" in Hive should be more communicative to the end users and put some time or funding the proposal that are used by end users.

That time when you invested in STEEM, STEEM price was over $1. Definitely you have more STEEM/HIVE now. But if you consider your all investment including your consistent effort and time to make content, and convert the crypto into USD, it is not that impressive, I think. That's why this question comes to the mind - Am I demotivated?

Hive blockchain moved forward and a lot of awesome things are happening. Like you said in the post, LeoFinance, Splinterlands, and I'd like to add dCity. Things can change tomorrow and if you ask me, I would say different things. :)

It's a journey. Let's see how far we can do. Thank you @r1s2g3 for sharing this.

I am not at all demotivated by Hive price. In the end of the post I am trying to give reason why one should not be demotivated by Hive price at all.

Wow you have read books to get started. In my case I just came to know about Steem and doing all the hit n trials have been building my profile. Integrated many of my social media channels with the blockchain technology. It has been an interesting and enjoyable journey thus far. Cheers
