My Splinterland's Journey: Having ups and downs but always happy to join it

I guess it was January 2019 when someone from the old chain Steem convinced me to play Splinterlands (known as Steemmonsters at that time). This is the very first time I learned that I would earn for playing the game, otherwise, I assumed that playing is for entertainment and one has to spend money in the game instead of earning money from it. When I joined the game, I was late for alpha and Beta was in progress, overall now my journey is close to 5 years in Splinterlands.

I witnessed a few of the craziest things in the game like players burning the Alpha cards for DEC when DEC got launched, card prices were very near to DEC burn prices, and a sudden surge in the price of Alpha and Gold foil cards.

Downs witnessed in the game.

If you think that the current downtrend is the only downtrend witnessed in Splinterlands then you are mistaken. The current downtrend still be attributed to the massive correction and the bear market. I remember in beta days when one of the big player dumped its collection when Splinterlands hinted about the Land in the game as that player did not like the Land concept. Steem-Hive fork also impacted the game badly as many of the big Korean players left the game in support of Steem and dumped their collection. These events happened when the game player base and market cap both are small. I am happy to see that we all navigated out successfully from those troubled times.

UPs that changed the history of the game.

There were so many announcements, and so many enhancements in the game including Land Presale, but no one has impacted the game if compared to the SPS airdrop announcement. DEC broke the peg , Game assets and card value almost jumped 50x or more in USD prices, and everything in the Splinterlands shop was sold out and I can say that was the pinnacle of the game. It attracted tens of thousands of players daily to the game and just wondering if this crazy phase will repeat.

Still the same in the game.

I feel that with all the years passed, player's enthusiasm is still there in the game. You can still find Splinterland's Discord as a lively place and a lot of user-generated content for the game. Game development is still spearheaded by Matt aka yabapmatt and looks in very safe and competent hands. Team vision was always long-term term and to spread the game is very evident with their current Rebellion pere sale where DAO got a share of the sales.

My holding in the game.

Whatever you hold in Splinterlands, it always looks less. I have BETA and CHAOS gold level deck, 3 land plots, A title, Rare and common skins in the game, Untamed and CHAOS packs, Merits and Gladius cards, a little DEC, and almost more than 300K SPS in possession. All of which I built by re-investing or slowly buying in almost 5 years.

Some 20+ players purchased the Summoner's spellbook through my link and I used to get "credits" when they perform purchases from the game shop.

Is Splinterlands paying the price of being in Hive.

Despite high fees, Ethereum and Ethereum-related projects capture the limelight and get visibility easily. WAX established itself as a nice option for the gaming world and also has a nice concentration of P2E games and they get an audience more easily.
I feel Splinterlnds being in Hive misses the easy visibility that games in the ETH chain get and the easy audience that is available in WAX.

Hopes for the future.

I hope that the current bear in Splinterland assets will be going to be over soon. With Land 1.5 due in a week or two and Land 2.0 roadmap to be launched at month's end, Rebellion is going to redefine the way of playing Splinterlands, I all see more fun, excitement and interest in the game.

I didn't know about the early part of Splinterlands but it sounds like a lot happened then. I joined Hive due to Splinterlands and I still enjoy Splinterlands even if the fights have gotten a lot harder.
