Portuguese Coins - 400th Anniversary - Death of Luís Fróis

Portugal is a country with a lot of history, as we are a very old country and because of that we have many stories to count. Portuguese commemorative coins record some people and events that were very important for Portugal.

Luís Fróis was born in Lisbon, joined the company in 1548 and immediately went to Asia. He worked in India and was in Malacca, revealing his writing skills early. He was ordained a priest, and the following year he left definitively for East Asia. He arrived in Japan, and two years later he was appointed as superior of the mission of Miyako (now Kyoto), where he remained for ten years.

He was one of the fundamental elements of the Christian mission in Japan in the implementation of the method of cultural accommodation, having been one of the interlocutors with the Japanese military elite, namely Oda Nobunaga, the first of the unifiers of Japan. Thus, Fróis has the most complete description that it came from the castle of Azuchi, center of the Nobunaga Court, a description inserted in his monumental work História do Japam.

From him are also many of the letters sent regularly to India and Europe, some of which were published by the Jesuits in Portugal, as well as the extraordinary Treaty in which they contain very briefly and briefly some contradictions and differences in customs between the people of Europe and this Japan province, about 1585. Fróis died in Nagasaki.
