Corruption which has a long history in the development of an economy becomes the order of the day, which takes place in different forms. For instance, when a government official receives bribe, when a policeman collects money from drives at road blocks, when a student who is not qualified is admitted in a school.

When a serious officer demands friendship from a female worker as a condition for promotion, when a petrol dealer hoards, add kerosene or diesel to increase the quantity of his petrol, when a student cheats in an examination, when government officials give out contract at an inflated amount as to receive kickbacks, when a politician rigs election to enable him get into office.

When a public servant falsifies his or her records to perpetuate himself or herself in office, when a public services holder dupes and embezzles government money, all those and those not mentioned here are acts of corruption. The corruption in Nigeria for instance has slowed down the progress of the country.

And it also brings shame and disgrace to the innocent citizens of the country. Corruption has ruined the economy of many nations, destroy the respect of merit, honesty, dedication to duty and sincerity of purpose. Since corruption is so bad and dangerous to the economy of a nation, how then can a society overcome this obnoxious practice?

We should not allow ourselves to be betrayed into the tragedy of institutionalized corruption which today threatens the very fabric of many national existence. We should build formidable barriers against all forms of corruption and should not be tempted to yield to the temptation of wretched pleasures which will eventually involve unpleasant consequences.

As a citizen of any country we should start respecting people for their good character, sincerity and honesty and not just for acquisition of wealth. Public office holders should declare their assets before taking office, government should follow this strictly. If checks and balances exist in public and privet sectors, workers would remain loyal, honest and sincere.

The government should provide sound services for her people to prevent them from using corruption as a means of securing such services. The system of selfishness and division of a society into rich and poor should be discouraged by all means. Corruption can be stamped out of a country, if the politicians, elected officers at all levels of the society the public holders would stoop down to find solutions to matter affecting the citizens than being so serious in acquiring wealth for themselves and their families. They is nothing serious that cannot be changed. If all the countries in the world could follow this steps given above then indeed the world would be a better place to live in.

Corruption always begins (starts) from the top... Usually, from the highest "ranked" people in the country, some institutions, and spreads to the lowest levels... It is spreading very fast because people see their "idols" doing it, and they also start to act like that...

It can be stopped, only from where it started... From the top to the bottom... Transparancy solves this problem, and I hope that blockchain technology will help with this...

Nice post! Thanks for sharing!
