How's Your "Crypto-Life Balance"?

I've been reading a couple of blogs over the last few days on LeoFinance where folks have been talking about how they are feeling the strain of crypto, pulling them deep in to the mire and feeling a little stressed. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel the same way! The charts are exciting to look at in any bull run but things are evolving on a minute by minute basis in crypto and you feel like you're behind even when something launched 5 minutes ago!

This can be dangerous for many reasons but one thing that chart-chasing, FOMO, greed and whatever else emotions you go through on this crypto emotional rollercoaster will lead to is a mental breakdown! I read a great post by @ericvancewalton that struck a few chords with me as he shares his journey from crypto over the last 5 years and if you've been in this space for a year or two, you'll relate to the points made as well. It's also got some great advice to newcomers - well worth a read!

Life Outside Crypto

For me, it was the section titled, "have interests and friends outside of crypto" that really hit home as I've started to feel that life has become a little "crypto heavy" over the last few months. Since the 2,020 km challenge finished, we've gone through a tough winter in the UK with lockdowns and I needed a couple of weeks away from posting and just being offline. Despite that, I was still having a cheeky check on the crypto charts but also trying to meet up outside occasionally with friends who don't have a clue or care about crypto to take away the conversation and my mind to something a little different - it was actually really nice to have a "mental break" from it.

My friends know to ask me for any help about their crypto ventures but I only show the tools they need to get their hands on x, y, z crypto that they ask for. I don't tell them anything more about which coin to buy as this space is all about making your own journey. What's interesting to me, may not be interesting to all. The same applies to everyone. Trying not to get sucked in is a challenge but if you find yourself falling in to the traps of sitting down all day on crypto Twitter or Telegram or other sites without seeing or speaking to anyone else then you may need to address that crypto-life balance.

Looking After No. 1

For me, I'm getting back in to habits of getting outside now the evenings are brighter in the UK, going for walks just to change the scenery, about 30 minutes to an hour, longer at weekends and I'm looking to get back in to running. It's been a while since I did a 5km run so might be good to burn the crypto oil! I'm also getting in to the habit of scheduling posts a few days in advance which really helps free up a bit of time to research and organise time outside of writing.

These little changes are already having an impact for me and it's bringing a bit of "sanity" to an otherwise insane period of time in this crazy bull run we've all experienced! Last year, having a digital detox for 2 weeks was also a great thing to do - sometimes needs must!

So how is your crypto-life balance looking? Are you constantly checking every crypto app out there all day or do you have some strategies to help provide some balance in your life? Let me know in the comments below!

Take care of yourselves!

Nicky

Sometimes it important to take a step back and have fun. I haven't been so active this week on hive because I spent some time traveling and unwinding with my friends. It was a fun experience and I feel we recharge for another crypto-exciting week.

That's the way to do it mate! I've also been on a few hikes this weekend to get outside and enjoy the countryside. Come back and have a clear head for a bit of research 😁

Read this blog, and then read @ericvancewalton's blog. That was such an amazing blog to read. Both your post and his post encapsulate the sense of anxiety I've been feeling and I really really needed to read them. Thank you.

No worries man, hope you can de-stress from it and take some time out to clear your head. We're all passionate about crypto but we are also human and need to look after ourselves, be with friends and family, come back and feeling refreshed again!

So how is your crypto-life balance looking?

A better question for me is how is your laptop-life balance looking? And the answer to that is "could be a lot better". I'm not too obsessive with cryto, bull market or not, and I only have one friend who's even remotely interested but I spend a lot of time online.

I'm seemed to have set it up so I games to play/manage, accounts to do and quite a lot of personal admin stuff that needs to be done online.

I was regular poster on Steemit but got burnt out with it and never made the transition to Hive. I've not made up my mind if I'm going to go for Project Blank or not.

Once I start posting I seem to make up these rules, like I need to post every day or I need to post about certain stuff or I can/can't post that. Then it becomes a chore rather than a fun thing to do so we'll see.

Glad to hear you got out this weekend. We're sorely needing it I think.

I know what you mean about computer/laptop-life balance too as I think the two are highly correlated. It has been a difficult and mentally challenging time for everyone the last 12 months. I think if you can sort your admin out and doing work with the laptop, you've at least done something productive but then it's being able to identify when you've spent too long and then do something about it.

Fully understand the burnout feeling. It's happened to me a few times here on HIVE already but seeing as literally everyone I knew from STEEM moved over, there was no fun or point me staying on STEEM so just moved over too! Hope you find the energy to get some posting done if it feels right. Always best not to force it 🙂 I usually schedule posts in advance when I think of a topic to write and also have a whiteboard of topics that pop in to my head as I'm researching or have a conversation with someone. Takes the pressure off. You'll be surprised how creative you can be if you posted previously.

I'm going to stake and go for the LEO airdrop personally. I've made it this far, not letting that ship sail now. Hopefully the instructions to get the drop are straightforward and we can make the most of it!

Whatever you choose, just make sure it feels right and you're happy doing it!

And written so a 5 year old can understand them 😂

Exactly! I'm just going with the flow for now. Resisting the temptation to say "I'm going to do this . . . or that" because that's when I get stale and start to feel boxed in.

Well we back to level 1 on lock down so I went to this new place for tacos which was awesome and then went for a sweet blunt hike.

Life seems to be getting back to normal and I’ve never really been bothered with the price of stuff!

Crypto is for sure a lot of fun and in learning a lot and it helps now when the movies are shit and series as well as the football so I have that spare time

Ah that's great you're back on a less restricted lockdown. We're pretty much fully locked up until mid March at the earliest - some serious Bumbahole stuff!

Lol, that's true about some toilet TV on at the moment. There's some good crime dramas on BBC if you can hold off binging but the football from an Arsenal perspective is basically a big pile of nope! Beating Leicester was a nice surprise though!

I do obsess a little over Hive, but I'm not a crypto trader. Anything I make here I consider a bonus, but don't depend on it as I do okay from the day job and I'm not so bothered about making millions. I can still hope that Hive will pay me back for all this effort in the long run. I want to see it prosper for the benefit of others.

@ericvancewalton is a very wise man indeed and been a guiding hand for me here on Hive for a long time now and I'm truly thankful to have met him early in my Crypto journey, although for me it's been more about blogging!
So...I tend to get a bit of an overload when it comes to Hive but I do believe that Covid lockdown played a big part as Hive has been my go-to-place, but fortunately things are opening for us even more now as we moved to Lockdown Level 1 this week and we're slowly getting back to seeing friends again.
Enjoy the coming spring on your side of the world @nickyhavey; we're loving the slight cooling off here where it's been an awfully long, hot and humid summer!
It's all about balance not so;)

Yeah Eric's a legend! Only come across him a couple of times but his posts are usually inciteful and that one I referenced really resonated through and through! Crypto is a lot easier to get in to when you have a wise teacher :)

I agree with you, I've pretty much been on HIVE for a few hours each day, maybe longer during the pandemic and since everything went to remote working. Have had a set up where I can spend a bit more time here and actually, really enjoying it but it can get heavy sometimes!

I'm so happy to hear you're moving to a lighter lockdown restriction in SA! It's been a challenging time for everyone. We're still in the tightest measures here but our case numbers are falling rapidly, along with the rapid rollout of the vaccines. In a couple of weeks, the first of a few tiered unlocking will occur but we're not out of the woods yet.

Spring is coming though, the weather has been pretty great the last week and the mood is beginning to lift I feel, not just locally but perhaps globally as well...

Herm... We've been completely sucked in.

No life outside of crypto anymore haha. Apart from my vocal lessons I give, we actually don't earn fiat anymore...

Next I wanna set up solar power mining rigs in my barn... Did I tell you how much I love crypto? It's like crack...

It serves a purpose though, being 100% self sustainable, feeding of the land. Being free I guess.

I'm also getting in to the habit of scheduling posts a few days in advance which really helps free up a bit of time to research and organise time outside of writing.

I do the same bro, I also have saved drafts partially completed, all my life is compartmentalized with a rigorous schedule as I have the 3 kids here, the farm work, working out gyming everyday, working on music scales daily (at least 1 hour is imposed), writing songs, recording them... Jeeeez gimme a break. I LOVE IT though I think I wanna be a superhero when I grow up.

Hahaha, "it's like crack"! I know man, I have to say, I've loved being involved with it these last few years, even that huge bear of 2018 after getting in Xmas 2017. It gave me a strong stomach and sense of ownership - I made the choice and I'll get through. Would love one day to "check out" of fiat earnings, hoping by the next bull run in 2025, that will be a reality!

Dude, renewable energy and crypto is where it's at. If you can earn from solar or other renewable sources then it's just another strong argument against the narrative that crypto is "bad for the environment" that a lot of mainstream articles are trying to convince the masses about.

Good call on organising your life, sounds like you have many balls to juggle there and being organised to stay on top of it all is key! As long as you keep yourself fit and well, looking after your family and providing a sustainable future, it's hard to begin with but once things are moving along, you'll be an unstoppable force! Would that be a superhero with laser eyes like everyone on twitter has these days? Haha!

Speaking of superhero there's a cool series called The Boys. I don't hang out on Twitter but if they start having superheroes I might come back haha. I am such a mess of an individual the only way of can be productive is to take a military approach to it, otherwise I get caught In the midst of creativity. I remember in 2018 I would spend 4 hours on a video or a post non stop. Like dude wtf!! After that during the bear run I eventually earnt fiat again joining companies and everyone saw me as the crazy dude talking about btc like I was the Bitconnect dude. I learnt a valuable lesson while being on the fiat side of the fence. Once the crypto bug bit you, you don't come back from it and go on with your life

Haha, I wouldn't call them superheroes with the laser eyes! Unless you call "shills" superheroes haha! Well mate, that's the best way of doing it. I'm trying to provide some structure to my days but fitting in that around the 8 hours for the 9-5 job is proving a challenge! I might just have to get up earlier to hammer out a few drafts for posts! All original baby!

LOL I know mate, 4 hours for a simple post and you're like, "I need to think about my life here"! Exactly the same! I try not to talk about crypto other than with crypto people for those very reasons! It's tough to experience sometimes but stick to your aims, we'll all meet up in one big crypto party one day and it's going to be immense!

Oh no super shills, I am running away from shills, they are everywhere!

I might just have to get up earlier to hammer out a few drafts for posts! All original baby!

Don't you wanna film yourself one of these days and show your though process?

we'll all meet up in one big crypto party one day and it's going to be immense!

And we will splurge all our crypto on the non cryptos people, saying "drinks on me Muggle" 😁
