Do you remember your first time.. ?

The perfect clickbait title :) Everybody remembers the first time of .. just about everything. The first kiss, the first love, the first success and why not? The first money ever earned. The first job or the first time that something you did was monetized! Selling something in the flea market? Selling cookies to your grandmother?

image.png
(This is an effort something I have been working on - I ll tell you more soon - in the meantime if you want, please take part in the conversation here This tweet had already more than 1300 impressions!)

When was the first time I made money?

I think it was when I was 18 or something, I took my first part time work in a cafeteria.. I had no idea about how to make coffees, but I had really fun doing it and I was happy spending my first money.

Before that, I used to not eat anything at school - my parents used to give me some coins in the morning to buy something but I saved them and then I was trying to buy something I really needed.

I have had a weird relationship with money, but it is a theme for a different post..

This one was inspired by @acesontop who yesterday posted a nice #askleo post asking Where and how did you earn your first money?

This question actually reminded me of this post by @trumpman which is another great post idea ;)))

But that's not what I wanted to talk to you about

Actually the post by Adrian reminded me of the first time I earned money from digital activity...

The first money I made from my digital activities

I will never forget it.

I was struggling after I had quit my job and I was trying to find out ways to use my digital expertise in developing my own activities. I had been doing digital tasks for many years, but for other businesses.

I tried out many things, I tried blogging, creating content about things I cared etc etc and I got into steemit! I felt so lucky but also intimidated...

Receiving tokens? But what were they? I could see the $ sign but how could I ever make it real money and how could I spend it? Was the time I was spending on the platform, well spent?

It was 2017. There was enough information online but not as much as now...

After gathering some steem, I decided to check out a tutorial and transfer my steem to an exchange and to make it real money.

I first tried a small amount.
It worked!

Then I tried a bigger amount, I think it was around 60 euros at that time :)

I withdrew it from steem, and into the exchange - and then withdrawn into my bank!

But then I had to wait for 3 days till I saw them! I was so amazed by it, I would go outside and could not help smiling!

People would ask me, why are you smiling? I replied "I made the most amazing discovery!"

I used that money to pay for electricity. I still remember that. I felt ... grateful. Grateful to this technology that could reward us for the time spent, while at the same time learning and shaping the technology itself!

Since then, I have only cashed out when I absolutely had to. I consider myself a hodler and someone who tries to make the most of the crypto space, while sharing the experience with the rest of world who happens to follow me or to find my posts.

Do you remember when you first cashed out from your blogging/digital activities?

Let me know in the comments or write a post about it and tag me!

Thanks so much for visiting my post!

Nice story! I've been in crypto for four years now and I still haven't done what you did: cashed out into real money. Ha!! I got in right before the parabolic move in 2017 and rode everything up to the tops (still buying, by the way) and then all the way back down again. I never sold a thing. Now I'm back doing the same thing all over again. I'm buying into the run, but this time I'm definitely going to take some out along the way. In the meantime, I'm enjoying engaging with this community. I feel like Hive is already a 10x over what Steem was 4 years ago. Hopefully the token price will grow by the same amount.... :-)

Thanks so much for commenting!
I had to cash out, because I had to understand how it worked and also I had to be convinced that it was a real think and not a scam... :)

Yes, I was convinced it wasn't a scam. What I wasn't paying attention to however, was the fact that they go down just as fast as they go up. Oh well. Lesson learned. And, of course, in the best (albeit) most painful way possible: the hard way. :-)

I like your story, it's actually a part of your life... so now I know a small part of your life. I don't remember when I first made money, I didn't really do it because I was always ashamed to ask for something for someone's services. I didn't even manage to sell.
I still remember the first money from blogging. I also joined Steemit in 2017 and until the great schism I didn't know how to get the money out of it. After the Steemit earthquake I decided to give up and learned to withdraw the money, I changed Steemit to Ethereum. We haven't changed in Hive, as many of our colleagues have done well. With that first money I earned online I took a vacation in Thassos, one in Bulgaria, in Balchik and I still have something in exchange (since then Ethereum has grown!).

It was all I gathered in three years in Steemit and the appreciation of Ethereum helped me.
That's what I want, so we can travel and relax on the money earned from blogging.

Do you remember when you first cashed out from your blogging/digital activities?

I guess in 2019... I don't remember exactly. It's life changing though to be able to live off of such a passion and also exciting to be part of this revolution.

Sometimes it really feels as if we help (in a way) to shape our future - each putting a small stone in what is being built!
Thanks for inspiring & sharing Adrian!

Great story! The feeling of seeing engagement with a digital ecosystem paying out into a real and concrete medium of exchange is an incredible thing. This 'digital money' has real value to it and there's so much room to grow and gain value.

That is pretty awesome. Everything that I have made on here has gone back into my account. I have been lucky that I haven't needed to power down since I started on the platform. That is a real blessing for me.

Hey, you have to do what you have to do. Electricity is pretty important. It's your stake, don't let anyone make you feel differently!

It's an amazing topic to discuss Katerina. My childhood friend's name is also Katerina and whenever I see your name on leofinance it reminds me of Katya :) I loved reading your story. It was definitely a good year for cryptocurrencies in 2017, and you got steemit on time. Best of luck to you.

Do you remember when you first cashed out from your blogging/digital activities?

I created my first website using html/css when I was 13-14 years old and started to make money through ads. It was an amazing experience for me. People around me didn't believe I could. Some laugh at me. Others told me to try something tangible. I went on but stopped telling them anything about it :)) Many years later, when I heard about blockchain I decided to take a non-traditional path and I am still improving myself on it.

So nice to know that my name brings on good memories ;)
I was surprised to know that you first built a website at 13 - that must have been quite an innovation at the time!

great title
and your are correct, it is clickbait
yes, we all remember firsts in our own life.

My first newspaper route & grass cutting job are still clear and it was 30+ years ago.

Makes me wonder.....a video series introducing this platform to others that starts with "do you remember?"
could be informative to alot of naysayers

Thank you Andrew :)
Tell me more about your video idea, how do you mean? What would follow the 'do you remember'? How would this be connected with the platform?

What if you create a weekly post of remembering firsts?
I think people will like to share theirs & read about others.

I can't remember it because it didn't happen yet. I just really started to put some time and effort into Hive/Leo a few weeks ago. I actually joined Steemit in 2018 but I didn't stick to it at that moment.

But back on topic, I still haven't made any real money out of my activities here but I'm already learning a lot with this wonderful community and I really believe is only a matter of time (as long as I sustain the effort, of course!) until things start to change :)

Really the first time of all we never forget.

I know how it feels to win our first cryptocurrency. I still remember my first purchase at the supermarket with a crypto card, I was very happy :)

Hive gives us many opportunities to grow financially, transform our lives, our dreams ... It is good to be here and see everything evolve.

Ah..so you're from Crete's capital! ;)
I agree the first withdraw of crypto is very ecstatic! :) I did this back in 2012 with my first bitcoins (sadly)

My first job is where I god my first money earned...as I remember...
It was in our favorite computer gaming club in town, where I had to replace a friend of mine, who quit. The job was about reinstalling windows, software and games, configuring and replacing hardware. Right after I finished high school at the age of 18. The salary was a real joke at around 15 euro per month :D It was considered to be educational for me...

My first digital activities' earnings were right after that, when I was studying in Germany, got my first freelance job alongside...
and discovered some websites, which were paying to you for watching / running banners on your computer :)
They've sent me paychecks via mail and I was happy to have some additional income :)

I cashed out once when I first started to see if this was a scam
And yes, like you I had a big smile too
I withdrew the minimum of 6 steem and when the money came through - something like RM70 if I remember correctly, it was like magic haha

I can remember my first online sale! It was for a big $7 lol but that first sale is honestly what sparked that this all really is possible. That was now over 15 years ago crazy to think about!

I also remember my first earning bitcoin and it was through mining 8 years ago back in 2013. At the time I thought I was trading my computer processing power to help companies render videos etc kind of what Gridcoin does today. Boy was I wrong lol I can remember mining back then would earn you about 0.01 bitcoin and of course at the time you're thinking what the heck is going on. I was still trying to put the pieces together of what this really was.

It's wild to look back at the history of those 8 years and everything that took place. Buying Ethereum at $11 on average and the wild swings in prices over those years. It's been a crazy ride and most likely will only become more crazy but I feel ready for it and thrilled!

It is definitely a very cool thing that we are able to do this @katerinaramm!

For me, it depends a little bit on your perspective. I made my firm money from creating online content in 1999, from the very first site that used "micropayments" to reward content creators according to how useful content turned out to be. Since then, I was part of many different venues that paid for content.

If you are referring strictly crypto-based rewards, then Steemit was my first experience.

=^..^=

I never cashed out of blogging yet! Sent some to exchanges when Hive was listed, but returned double what I had sent. I did cash out some of my digital earnings for the first time a couple months thow: I bought some BTC in 2017, and a couple of close friends wanted to join the ride. We all invested the same amount. I was in charge of their money; told them not to stress for the next 5 years, and of course they kept nagging me all this time that this wasn't going nowhere :)) I waited until price rose so i could cashout only half of what we had, so I could give them back all the inicial money plus some profit AND keep the same amount in the wallet. The look on their faces when they saw the transfer was sooo worth it!

Nice story Kate. I also think that its important to know how to take it out and just for the trial I did some cash out with a small amount during the lockdown last year. I joined steem in 2018 and after 2 years I did this trial which I think should have been done earlier.
