The Challenge

Be the change!

It's so quick to throw up the excuses and the complaints...

"The whales are the only ones that benefit here!"

"I never get upvotes!"

"The price of this blockchain is so bad!"

Spend any amount of time on chain and I'm sure you'll here the gripes...

I get it, it's frustrating when you see the circle of friends upvoting each other and you've put HOURS into your content...Just to earn a few pennies.

But here's the brutal truth some folks just aren't ready for...

You aren't owed a thing here, and you need to earn every single upvote and engagement!

So you have choices:

Give Up!

It's an easy solution. Throw in the towel and just say this isn't for you. Personally I could never do this, but I get it...I'm a little off the rocker sort of speak...Stubborn lol

But sometimes, it's just not in your cards. You've played them and just decided it's time to fold.

Or....

Challenge Yourself!

I've had the privilege over the past few weeks to meet with @taskmaster4450le and learn from him. In one of our sessions, he basically solved everyone's issues on the chain when it comes to 'lack of results'.

He stated: "If you want better results, how about you go make 500 comments and then come see me!"

Bomb. Dropped!

Here's a quote I've been living by for decades with my online business....It's from one of my favorite authors Jeffrey Gitomer.

"All things being equal, people do business with those they know, like and trust. And all things not being equal, people still do business with those they know, like and trust!"

kltt.png

So how do you get the blockchain to 'know, like and trust you'?

Comments!

Engagement!

Adding value to other people's journey!

So are you ready to challenge yourself?

Try it out...See what happens when you put your own 'gains' aside for for the next month or so and just....Engage and comment with others.

Read their posts, see what their passions are, add value to their journey...Comment 500 times and then ask yourself how your journey is going...

I'm willing to bet a few things will happen after this little challenge you will embark on:

  1. You will gain a LOT more followers!
  2. You will attract a lot more engagement of your own!
  3. Gasp...Wait for it...People will be sending you a few more upvotes!

Those are the choices...

Give up!

Or STEP UP!

We are already part of one of the most engaging blockchain projects online...You literally have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

I look forward to seeing you during and after your 500 comments!

Thanks very much :)

Yeah, it truly is! And we're on the best platform to engage without question!

That’s something all newcomers should prioritise. And actually now is still an easy time !
In few months with a larger population on Leo, newcomers posts will be flowing even more and will have even less chance to get a nice chunk of upvotes.
Right now we are lucky our whales are dedicating a lot of effort to newcomers, but it will get diluted with an increasing number of Lions.
Don’t give up now, seize the opportunity ;)

100% agree!

Now is the time to step up and get people to know you. Because once the masses come, it's a lot harder to stick out!

Very good post Jon, and I agree commenting and curating work wonders for not only getting to know folks but also to make a few coin while you do it. Post about things that interest you like I do with the Calgary Flames I now have over 1,000,000 sports tokens and I have not bought more than 80,000 to get my self started. They were real cheap back then compared to now. The rest I have earned from post and curating. I know 1 other person that post sports blog the rest I know me from commenting on there posts.

That's the trick to all this stuff.

You never know where these tokens will go, so you plug into a community or tribe you enjoy...And get engaging....

Think of all those early adopters to LEO...They are smiling from ear to ear now.

You are very right @jongolson
Without a doubt, interaction and commitment is the key. Having a low expectation is also a good strategy not to demoralize, everything that gets above your expectations will be motivating.
I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid night and a happy rest

Thanks very much for the comments!

Yeah, that's why I gave myself a 5 year plan for this stuff....If I was just stuck on price, I wouldn't be able to build and enjoy the journey :)

My opinion is that this current price is convenient, both for the investor and for those who publish content and want to see results in the medium or long term, since you receive for each HD, about 10 Hive.
My expectations are that the price of Hive at the end of the year could be around $ 2 dollars, imagine the huge difference in capitalization.

I'm making more comment since some days, like one or two weeks, and I already see what is the result.

Just making some of it sometimes isn't enough.

I know that people, me before and maybe still a little, are afraid about making comments. Because they think that isn't interesting. But I started to make more comments and I try to make it the more relevant possible when I realized something.

I someone just write "thanks for sharing" or "great post" in the comments, i would be happy.

So basically, making comment is easy and it's really great for you and the authors to make it, no reasons to don't do it !

I'm one of those old school content creators that looks at engagement and comments as my rewards.

The crypto is just a ribbon on top of it all LOL

I totally understand !

This is one of my best week on Hive. I made a post with $6 reward, one with 2$ and one with $1. But I feel better with the last one because it has 30 comments wile the two others have a comment from filotasriza or a beer command !

It was way more pleasant to respond to the comment than seeing a $6 upvote from appreciator (i don't mean that I don't like it)

That is such a good attitude and approach to all this stuff. And then the rewards just sweeten the deal!

He stated: "If you want better results, how about you go make 500 comments and then come see me!"

Oh man lol.

Whatever you said is absolutely true. I joined Hive / steem way back 4 years ago but I gave up easily. I came back in November and made my mind that it doesn't matter if I don't earn anything , I just wanna give my full .

Honestly, I think this is an idea that’s worth a shot. I’m actually taking you guys up on it and making a concerted effort.

I think 500 is pretty lofty, given that I want to actually write something meaningful rather than just “good post” or something, but I’ll give it the old college try and likely give up somewhere around 180. 😛

After carefully doing the calculations, I take back my words. 500 comments in a week is impossible without spamming.

With the calculations made, 500 comments in two weeks, is achievable.
I will be making nothing less than 36 Comments on a daily basis on average.

Would 2000+ comments be enough? lol
That's what I have so far according to @hivebuzz!
Even so, I might not be engaging as I should, but I never leave a reply on my posts behind!
This is always a good reminder ;)

I've had the privilege over the past few weeks to meet with @taskmaster4450le and learn from him. In one of our sessions, he basically solved everyone's issues on the chain when it comes to 'lack of results'.

I have also been able to get a reply from him when I joined LeoFinance last year December after leaving steem it for a long time. He was the one who gave me a tip to make at least 10comments daily. Which I didn't really think about and just decided to give it a try.

I Do meet up to 10 comments and even more. Sometimes I'll run out of resource credit and will have wait and give it more time.

Trust me when I look back at where I started. I'm amazed at how much I have gained In earning and followers. I also made friends that we keep tabs on each other now and I also wish to keep engaging more and more everyday maybe step up to 20 comments daily.

I don't feel lost in here anymore like I felt on steemit back then.

Facts, you also need to realize many of these people took a risk and invested into the platform before it was much of anything. They built friendships, votes and trust over time. There is no reason you can't as well. People are so quick to complain and whine when if they took that same effort and used it productively they would get much better off. Suck it up and get out!! :)

Yeah man, that's the truth. If we spent half the time towards building, rather than complaining here....Wow. We'd be crushing it!

I tried, I know I can go around 200 in a week and I did it for few weeks too before I started dropping from my peak.
I am not denying at all how much visibility that 500 comment can give.

I totally agree with message "Instead of whining, go out and interact" and you will find lot of awesome people, interesting ideas and increase in your intellect too.

I also think that's lost on a lot of people that come here that curators have some divine right to find your content lol. Like ANY social media site you first need to build an audience, comment on other posts, when you do create a post, look for simliar content and comment there and ask for feedback on your post, use discord, pay ecency and steempeak or tribe promo fees and get some eyes on your content

0

Bang! That's absolutely right!

It's not the curators job to find your content...It's yours. And you do it by creating good stuff but more importantly, sticking out from the crowd by commenting and engaging!

Members need to realize you only make new connections via communicating, some always leave kind expressive comments making you realize the content was read and thoroughly enjoyed.

Needless to say it is a two way street, reciprocating is how the how process starts up.

I agree.

It's got to be a two way street but it starts with 'getting out there'.

Great points!

Ironically I originally started to find your topics of interest on Twitter.

Recently I no longer post onto there from here in Hive on behalf of people, I simply don't like the big poshbot taking up most of comments.

Go into Twitter and share directly in there, still moving content just a slightly different take on how I enjoy social media.

Aside from the social side, the potential networking and reward side is also the benefit of it all. I feel like a part time person but still managed to get up in top 3 of the engagement league by Asher and 4th highest on Leo finance last week just by getting involved and that was only with 250 comments or so.

Even if you do 5-10 comments a day to start motivation, it's easy. Then you get involved in a discussion and it's not even a chore any more.

Having said that, not everyone wants to comment and just browse so that's fine too. Really depends what people's goals are at the end of the day - mine is to have fun!

Absolutely, yeah I think I took it from the angle that the people that wanna make this, something sustainable, and a regular source of income...Might fall into the trap of whining and complaining.

Which can very much be fixed, simply by showing up and engaging. A few times a day truly does add up, just look at your results! Awesome stuff man, thanks for the comments!

I have been saying for a long time that people need to not go so hard on circle jerks. Yes, there are some people who abuse the platform that way, but there is also the case where voting circles like this happen naturally. I find a post I like. I comment on it. I look at the persons stuff and vote and comment on some more of it. I like pretty much everything they put out so I follow, comment and vote on all of it. As they interact with me, they start looking at my stuff and they like it as well. They do the same. These things happen as you engage with other people and should not be frowned upon or immediately condemned.

Agreed!

And what happens, is that new circles are formed...And how you 'get into a circle' is by...In my opinion...Adding value to others.

Heya @jongolson! I have no idea how I missed this one, but you're right on the money with comments and engagement! A number of us have been "preaching" this since day one, bringing testimonials from communities long before there was a Steem/Hive.

Aside from the various Newbie Support challenges way-back-when, I think the most massive event we had happened in late 2017 when @merej99 ran the great "Community Engagement Challenge." As I recall, something on the order of 50 people participated, and it was something like 12 posts and 500 (real!) comments in two weeks to get a "completion certificate"... with daily prizes, whale upvotes, winners prizes. I think maybe 20(?) of us actually made it to the goal, but all of us ended up with significantly more active accounts and new friendships.

And, of course, let's not forget Asher's (@abh12345) weekly Engagement Leagues which includes many of Hive's most active community members... yet, surprisingly many people don't know about it, but it's definitely the next layer of the gamification of social blogging... and it works!

500 Comments is not a lot — says I, because I comment a lot — but it really does help. For those interested in doing this, you don't have to keep track of your comments... just head over to https://hivebuzz.me/ranking and make yourself a dated screen shot (kinda like this) as a starting point... and then just go out there and engage!

A bit late, but I'll reblog this for visibility.
