Deep dive in The Sandbox

Not spending, but earning!

Well, I said it yesterday… time to flip the switch again. So today really forced myself to create a different mindset. A mindset that means that I will start earning again, instead of just spending. Simple, right? LOL

Well, in any case, I followed up my own tip today. I went to the Coinmarketcap Earn selection and took all available quizzes. Now just wait and see IF I receive some coins in my Binance account! But not matter if I receive coins or not, taking the quizzes is interesting.

The Sandbox

That's how I ended up at the Sandbox. And as I was watching the videos for the Sandbox it flashed through my mind, "Hey, this might be something that might interest my friend". After all, he's been a bit more accessible when I talk about crypto for a month or so. Not yet immediately willing to invest, but in any case he no longer cuts the conversation off with the statement “Yes, that's fake money”. So for that matter, we're making progress. But the Sandbox has crypto, (my interest), and GAMING. And that is his interest again.

He wants to create a game

He would prefer to make a game himself. And I have to admit, if he were to focus on that, I am also 100% sure that a top game would arise. That wouldn't take up 50 gigabytes of your hard drive. Of course, I encourage him to do so, because I am sure that if that is his relaxation… he should do it! After all, he also has enough stress from the daily routine. Working at a shit company, for a shit salary, and not even being able to heat your house properly. Well, it is all possible in the Netherlands. I'm not going to write anything more about that. Enough about that. Remember, the other mindset ...

Crypto and Gaming

Back to the Sandbox… crypto and gaming. My interest and his interest, a mix… a good mix? That gaming and crypto go well together is already apparent from many things. Hmmm, it's time to take a deeper dive in the Sandbox yourself. Because they offer the possibility to create NFTs, you can trade them via the marketplace, can you actually make a game with them? Okay, now I've gotten curious. Could it be this? Would I get my friend excited about crypto? Before I take that big step it is very advisable that I know what I am talking about. Because my dear friend is already hesitant about crypto, but he is certainly not crazy, and certainly not stupid. He is intelligent enough to immediately spot the weak spots if there are any.

So it's my job to find out exactly what Sandbox is, what it does, what it can do, why it is special, and what it adds, why it is important,… Well, you understand. I need to know EVERYTHING… BEFORE I even tell my friend about Sandbox.

And how can I better understand what the Sandbox stands for than writing a blog about it? Time for a reflection from my point of view ...

What is the Sandbox actually?

The Sandbox is a virtual online world where players can build, own and monetize their gaming experiences on the Ethereum blockchain using the Sandbox platform's SAND utility token.

Create your own NFTs

Players can create digital assets in the form of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and upload them to the Marketplace, a decentralized marketplace for trading in-game assets. Then these assets can be integrated with the Game Maker, a toolbox of the platform that allows anyone to build 3D games for free.

Buy your Land

The Sandbox's Metaverse also contains a number of other elements, such as a "Land". A land is a digital piece of real estate, players can buy it to build experiences. A land can be filled with games and various assets (NFTs).

Monetize your time spend on The Sandbox Platform

Users of The Sandbox can also convert their time on the platform to a revenue model. For example, users can create and sell assets as NFTs, sell plots of land on the marketplace, or build games with the Game Maker. These games can then be added by other players to their country for which they subsequently pay.

Okay, it's nice ... but not for me or my friend

Hmmm so far it was clear to me. Not for me, but in this respect not for my friend either. Nevertheless, I was now far enough to even take a look at the SAND token. Because while you are busy ... then that too can only be immediately clear.

SAND Token

The SAND token has a number of different use cases:

  • Payment method: Pretty clear I think. Players can collect SAND through gameplay and then spend SAND to play games or make in-game purchases.

  • Governance: In addition to being a means of payment, owning SAND enables holders to participate in protocol decisions by voting. Owners of SAND can vote themselves or delegate voting rights to other users of their choice.

  • Staking: And last but not the least interesting option. Users can stake SAND tokens and with it earn rewards.

The token has a totality

That is not special at this time, but I would say, it is complete! And more interesting than that it would only be a payment method for the Sandbox. That there is also a Governance model and Staking option attached to it, but it is again a more interesting option.

The price of the token I saw has been around 0.03 cents for a long time, has seen a spike to 0.14 cents last week, and is now consolidating around 0.10 cents / 0.11 cents.

That is a considerable increase suddenly. Probably this token, like many others, has been able to hitch a ride on the run that Ethereum knew. Considering that this entire Sandbox is on the Ethereum network, that seems the most logical to me.

Sandbox offers 3 separate products that are all integrated in an operational platform. These three products are:

  • VoxEdit
  • Marketplace
  • Game Maker

VoxEdit

Is a Voxel modeling software that allows users to create and animate 3d objects. They can then sell it on the

Marketplace

Or use it in the game they have made with the

Game Maker

So again a total package here.

Unity

The Sandbox Game Engine is built on top of Unity, and anyone who delves into gaming and technology AND crypto knows that ENJIN also uses games built with Unity. Using Unity’s Universal Render Pipeline (URP), The Sandbox will be able to support mobile platforms in the future, without compromising the quality of the game. The game engine also supports Voxel custom models, rigging and animation formats (VXM, VXR, VXA) from VoxEdit.

So anyone who wants to build games themselves, and monetize them can do this via the Sandbox… and I think if you are interested in this, it is a good and complete option for you. Everything you need is provided. And the great thing is that by using this option you don't even need to have that much programming knowledge yourself.

Partnerships

Sandbox has now also concluded various Partnerships and one of the best-known names in the list of Partnerships I thought was ATARI. Yes, who doesn't know Atari now? No explanation needed here seems to me.

Conclusion?

When I had read all this, I still thought it was an interesting project, but I have to make a side note here. I don't think it is a project that will appeal to the masses. The group that wants to make games themselves, AND monetize them, will not choose this platform so easily in my opinion. In my opinion, the SAND token is only interesting if you are going to engage yourself in creating NFTs or Games on the Sandbox platform and offers no real value outside that.

Obviously I could be wrong here, and I hope for SANDBOX that I am terribly wrong here. But at the moment I don't see any reason to invest in this coin myself, AND I certainly don't believe I can persuade my partner to join The Sandbox.

I need to do a little more searching for another gem… while keeping an eye on my buy and sell orders on Binance.

See you all later!

I own land on sandbox and am looking to build/host a game. Would be ok with letting someone put their game on my LAND - if it's good!!

Interesting ... very curious how this will work out for you in the future once you approve someone putting their game on your land. And what that will make you in terms of coins.

Not sure - just want to make use of my LAND but not sure if I have the time/skill to make a good enough game.

Very interesting the brief review on SandBox. Sure, the idea of playing in it sounds powerful. Although to be honest, I still prefer to explore the games that the #hive ecosystem offers. However, in the upcoming interoperability between chains, it could become very attractive for gamers into the blockchain.

I was about to buy some land, but shit, it sold in seconds.

Oh really, that fast? Hmmm, so it's a project supported by many than I guess ...

Not so, Land were bought by a few and that made them change their style of selling for the last auction.

Ok, yes that's often enough the case I guess. A few big spenders who buy up all the good stuff once they can.

Thanks a lot for your digging on Sandbox.
You might have a close look at WAX platform for gaming interests, could be good for both of you ;)

Oh, great read up. I was wondering too about the sand project if it is worth investing, but than I came to the same conclusion as you...this might be something for nerds rather than mass gamer adoption.
Thank you!

Thanks for your comment, and I'm happy that I was not the only one who came to this conclusion. Although, I really feel there are many who will invest in this because it does have some nice things.

I think that The Sandbox has a lot of potential. It is like Mindcraft but with better technology and crypto. The SAND token can be staked ingame and taken out of supply and since the token is capped, this could become interesting for the price development. The land plots are already all sold out and went to big various big projects. The Smurfs brand has a huge tract for example and they want to build a Smurf town there.

I am not so much interested in building a game with this but I am very much interested in just playing around with, create a couple of NFTs to sell them and use them on my own and just be part of this fascinating world. On the other hand, I still think it is very early for the project and it still needs to deliver a clearer usability. I didn't understand various aspects of it while playing and that needs to get better.

I agree with you on that The Sandbox has a lot of potential. But I don't think that the huge mass will get into The Sandbox, other than gamers and maybe developers. But as I said, I hope for The Sandbox that I'm totally wrong here, as I do think it is a very nice project.

Well, it's a game, so I don't see why anyone else but gamers should use it (plus companies who want to use it for advertise purposes like The Smurfs). I thought that is a given. To me, the question arises how much of the Minecraft market might move to The Sandbox eventually. Minecraft has millions of players and is pretty outdated compared to this new crypto alternative.

I play Splinterlands. Is it the same?

No it's not the same. Splinterlands does have a partnership with The Sandbox for what I could see in the Partnerships on their website. But Splinterlands is a complete other game and has nothing to do with The Sandbox. For what I know you can't buy or use $SAND tokens in Splinterlands either.
