Hey All;

At times big numbers can be confusing. Especially when it comes to Billions, Trillions, Quadrillion & Above. Do you know how many zeros there are in a Septillion? Ok; I'm not going to scare you with that big numbers and zeros in it. But what we will be looking at in this post is how to recognize numbers that are in the range of Million, Billion, and Trillion..

How does it sound to you.. Interesting? In between the answer to my above question is:: We have 24 Zeros in Septillion

Zeros in Million; Billion & Trillion

In the above-given image, I've highlighted in red & blue that indicates the number of Zeros in a Million which is 6 and 9 Zeros for a Billion. The best way to identify these big numbers is to group them with three zeros consecutively as shown in the above image in the column named:: "Groups of (3) Zeros"

How to Identify a Big Number?

Now let's take an example of how to identify a big Number which is in Billion, Million or Trillion. We will be taking one example of each of these category numbers.

  • Example1:: How do you read $CUB Market Value shown in the following image?

image.png

$CUB Market Cap:: $5,889,567

The number is already grouped in a group of 3 Zeros. Now you just need to count these 3 Zeros groups which equal to 2. Hence the number can be read as::

5 Million, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Nine Thousand & Five hundred and Sixty Seven

  • Example2:: From the given image how do you read the marketcap of Bitcoin?

image.png

The number is already grouped in a group of 3 Zeros. Now you just need to count these 3 Zeros groups which equal to 3. A group of 3 Zeros means that it has 9 [ 3 * 3 ] Zeros; hence the number is in Billion.. And the number can be read as::

$928,995,474,995

Nine Hundred And Twenty Eight Billion, Nine Hundred & Ninety-Five Million, Four Hundred & Seventy-Four thousand & Nine Hundred and NInety-Five

  • Example3:: From the given image how do you read the total marketcap of CryptoCurrency Market?

image.png

The number is already grouped in a group of 3 Zeros. Now you just need to count these 3 Zeros groups which equal to 4. A group of 4 Zeros means that it has 12 [ 4 * 3 ] Zeros; hence the number is in Trillion.. And the number can be read as::

$1,834,207,854,892

1 Trillion, Eight Hundred & Thirty-Four Billion, Two Hundred & Seven Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Four Thousand & Eight Hundred and Ninety Two

That's all about recognizing big numbers which are associated with Million, Billion, and Trillion. And in a similar fashion, you can also further recognize bigger numbers which are in the range of::

  • Quadrillion - 15 Zeros
  • Quintillion - 18 Zeros
  • Sextillion - 21 Zeros
  • Septillion - 24 Zeros
  • Octillion - 27 Zeros
  • Nonillion - 30 Zeros
  • Decillion - 33 Zeros

If you read through all what I said; then here is an exercise for you::

How will you read the following Number::$999,999,999,999

#million #billion #trillion #bignumbers

Best Regards

Wow, that's a lot of '9s'. The comma separator makes it a lot easier to read. :)

Nine hundred ninety-nine billion nine hundred ninety-nine million nine hundred ninety-nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine

You know, as an American I never thought much about it, but it's kind of interesting that world markets follow the short American system and not the long British system. (eg 10^9 is a billion in the short system, but only a thousand million in the long system, where a billion is 10^12, and so on so on for larger numbers)

haha sorry, kind of not what you were posting about, but talk of bigger numbers made me think of it.

when numbers get big, the scientific notation gets really helpful, 1e12, 1e15, etc. - and it doesn't need strange "...illion" names that hardly anybody can remember :)
