That is key, and the other thing I learned is how upvoting at least the first comment left by someone, can make a difference especially in the eyes of a new person.
It happened to me on Steemit, where I was crafting these substantial posts that no one was seeing. Then one day I left a thoughtful comment, came home and saw a response and an upvote that was more than my own post received.
I think this shows an appreciation for the contribution made by the author and can inspire someone on the fence to keep going! :)

I try to upvote every comment, and it's never going to be a massive vote...But just a small token of appreciation!
But wow, some of those big votes...Sure can make someones day in the comments :)
