What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 24%.

643 EDS Miner tokens left.

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

saturday_savers_club.jpg

Image by Andy M. from Pixabay Hey Chicken, watch out for the rain 😁

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Penny a Day Tracker Sheet

Right click on the image, save it to your computer and then print it out.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 31 July, was 14.63p. Next week, we'll be saving 15.12p and by Saturday we'll have saved 239.77p (that's 23,977p just compounding a penny a day)! 😁.

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 14.63p buys 34.75 Hive.
665 Hive saved in 28 weeks (565 Hive powered up, the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM)! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 24% on EDS tokens and a little on curating and posting!

@susie-saver has powered this week's savings; she's also been voting following a curation trail. She's reached her first milestones of 530HP and Minnow status. Her next goal is 1,000HP.

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).
  • share this post if you think your followers might be interested.

2. The Golden Pig Tip

saturday savers club.jpg

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

This week's Golden Pig Tip:

"Lost your savings mojo? Accidentally went out and bought £239 of Bobbi Brown cosmetics? 😂. Never mind, get back up, dust yourself off and start saving again today! Remember, start small and start today. The Saturday Savers Club is here to support you every Saturday!

And today is always a good day to start saving - you can start on Day 1 or make up the first thirty-one weeks to catch up with @susie-saver.

That's it for this week. Hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next Saturday with progress so far and our next Golden Pig tip.

Congratulations to @justclickindiva on reaching 100 days and congratulations to @susiesaver on reaching minnow status. 😊

I missed my bitcoin DCA this week as the price went up and I hesitated. If it's going to continue to rise I'm going to have to get back into DCA again. Buying on the way up is much harder for me than buying on the way down.

Most of my crypto time this week has been spent sorting out Monsters card for the new rental system and learning about the new SPS token.

My potential earnings for the latter will beat anything I've done so far which actually creates a new dilemma for me - do I take profits and, if so, when and how?

I find this type of financial decision difficult so I'll be letting everything settle before I decide.

The reaction to the new token was nothing short of bonkers and I couldn't help myself from hanging out in Discord. I'm much happier now the frenzy has died down.

Wishing you all a wonder full week! 💙

Had to look up SPS 😂.
I've never gotten into Splinterlands or Monsters (are they different)? I understnd they're very popular, though, and potentially a huge attractant to new hivers. That's good enough for me!
I'm never sure about the taking profits. Looking to September onwards for Bitcoin and then settling down for another four years. Similar with Hive really.

Had to look up SPS

As I was writing it I was thinking I might be making assumptions that everyone knew what I meant. Apologies! 😍

SPS stand for Splintershards and it's a new governance token for Splinterlands which is the same as Monsters.

The amount of new people coming in as a result of SPS is insane. And there should be a positive knock on affect to Hive. It really underlines how complicated the Hive blockchain is though even to people who are familiar with ETH and Binance.

It's bonkers indeed, and that market cap 100m+.. crazy days. Myself I was thinking to stake it all and earn more and keep it long term. right now I'm thinking about either of the following:

  1. Sell (part) of the sps now while the hype is huge, I hear many of these tokens take a dip eventually. So I could buy back in when it does

  2. Sell SPS>buy dec with the acquired hive>bigger airdrop of SPS because more dec, rinse and repeat :-)

problem with 2 is that the amount of dec I could buy is so low it's not really worth it, I make much more from matches. So probably stick to staking some and selling a lot short term.

How do you feel about the new rental system? That's where my time has gone this week too :-P

Yeah. That's a good strategy I think. I'll probably end up hodl'g though although I feel it would be good to learn to take profits.

How do you feel about the new rental system?

It's good from a renting my cards out point of view but as a renter I've lost all my cheap cards. 😁

I need to find a happy medium with it I think because I've spent way too much time this week adjusting prices. Taking a step back I'm sure it's not worth it for portions of one DEC.

Also, I'm assuming a lot of the prices will drop again now the season is over.

I think there is a happy medium to be found between time and DEC earned.

I have a ton of Level 1 commons that I'm moving into a separate account so they don't clog up my main one. I'll list those as and when I have time for 0.1 DEC but I don't really expect to rent them out now. I think that's more likely once land comes out.

Peakmonsters actually has a cool new feature, as I'm renting literally all the cards I actively use I wanted to dump almost all my owned cards in rentals. You can select everything and click set lowest market price and you get near optimal rates. Except for instances were someone dumped eay below reasonable price. I only manually checked legendary and epic cards and some golds.

Also trying to refresh often and find some cheap gems. Max level card is sometimes really cheap compared to lower levels or even just straight up cheaper in absolute terms.. and really helps blasting to a higher leagur! So far been really the new system especially on peakmonsters

Hello @gillianpearce. Thank you so much. I see you're heavy into Splinterlands. I've never gotten involved with it. Maybe one day I'll take a look to see what it's all about.

Take care the rest of your week.

Ah I forgot about the backwards challenge and the normal challenge. I'll stick it in my Hive Power Up Day post and finish off my backwards challenge as well. I'll make sure to drop my post after I make it so you can see it.

HIVE is gaining some traction due to Splinterlands. We are gaining more users and transactions per day. If we can get a few more applications on top, I think we will definitely see a higher priced HIVE.

Thanks for the EDS token.

You too, @ericburgoyne. How's the garden?

Doing great in this heat wave we have been having. Patio tomatoes, and grape tomatoes we are eating every other day now, beefsteak should be by the middle of the month. Pepper plant is going crazy, as soon as this heat wave is over it will be time to plant lettuce again. How is your garden going ?

The tomato plants have taken over! I will have to stake them tomorrow. All of them have four trusses now, but none are ready to eat. They were very late going into the garden as we had very low temperatures here into May. I'm hoping that we will have enough sunshine through August for them all to ripen. Very sturdy plants, though!
The spinach is going crazy, very healthy. I didn't order my veg box this week, so I can have a few good helpings of spinach. Rhubarb has also done very well, the first time in four years we've had such a good crop!
I'm waiting for the potatoes - I may pull one of the posts later and see if they are ready to eat, they are so delicious straight from the garden.
Given how unpredictable the weather has been this year, I'm very pleased with everything. But I definitely need to invest in strawberries!

WE are very far ahead of normal here local corn hit the streets last weekend, about 2 weeks ahead normal, the heat we have been getting this year has been great for the crops. We have had no rain for 3 months or so been a very hot and dry season so far. Yes strawberries are great wish we had more room for more but with only a balcony it is hard to fit everything. Have a great week

Happy Savers' Saturday! :) I have been slowly adding to my EDS piggy bank as I am able, and am now up to 24 tokens (woohoo!). Congrats on your minnowhood!!! That is a huge milestone! It felt like it took me forever when I was swimming along as a redfish.

Great to see you are growing your EDS piggy-bank 😍.
It's really weird getting to minnow so quickly, I'm with you that it seemed like ages when we were swimming along getting an nth of a Hive through posting and curating. I was lucky that I had some money saved for investing so I was able to grow the account much more quickly to dolphin. Interesting to see how long it might take someone through regular saving (would have been quicker if I had been posting on that account, but I never seem to quite get into sync) 😁.

Hello @eddie-earner and @shanibeer. Hope you had a great last week. I missed our usual conversation on Saturday. I was dragging a bit last week.

Here is my Week 31 Saturday Savers Club Progress Report:

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/entering-3rd-phase-in-week-31-of-the-365-penny-a-day-saving-challenge-or-saturday-savers-club

Thank you so much for the congratulatory wishes and the Tokens for my completing the 100 Days of Savings Backwards. The time flew by. Also, a hearty "thank you" to all other Club members stopped by my post and congratulated me.

Did any other member complete this challenge? If you did, then sorry I missed it, and congrats. I'd like to know what your experience in Savings Backward was. It was something I'd never done before, so it was fun.

Congrats to @bearmol and @dksart for winning in the Wheel of Names.

@susie-saver, congrats to you on your new Minnow Status. You're truly a disciplined saving and investment Hiver.

I had a slow week. Several DIY projects kept me busy. I did manage to participate in HivePUD. I powered up 50 HIVE. Together with my liquid Hive, I staked Tokens for about 20 Community projects. It was a great feeling to contribute to the success of those projects.

I also helped two other small accounts to do the same by powering up 10 Hive each for them.

Once the Saturday Savers Club sponsorship is determined, just let me know and I'll contribute my portion as previously agreed.

Even though I had a slow week, I feel that I met all my savings and investment goals, especially reducing my eating-out budget by 50%.

Take care everyone.
