happy saturday.png

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Saturday Savers Club with Susie-Saver!

What a week for news with El Salvador adopting Bitcoin as legal tender and Jeff Bezos heading for space in a rocket shaped to say it all:

Saturday Savers Club.png

Source Seriously? Can he take Richard Branson and Elon Musk with him?

As Marina Hyde (great writer) put it so succinctly:

it’s famously impossible to take a bathroom break during a rocket launch, meaning Jeff Bezos will soon experience what it’s like to be one of his warehouse workers. Or, as the Amazon boss put it last week: “To see the Earth from space … changes your relationship with humanity.” That’s hugely encouraging. I feel like we’re just one successful interstellar wormhole mission to a distant galaxy away from allowing employees to unionise. Source

Back in our own backyard, @eddie-earner's Saturday Savers Club post had the second highest number of comments on leofinance.io for our post on Saturday 5 June:

Saturday Savers Club.png
Source Way to go Saturday Savers - fabulous engagement!

Now then - this week's winners!

Every week, you have the chance to win EDS tokens for commenting. Last week we had comments from @gillianpearce @ericburgoyne @bearmol @justclickindiva @missaj @jfang003, @riandeuk, @bashadow, @solymi, @eythorphoto and @chrisparis.

We also had a little SPI challenge:

What's your favourite way of maintaining your momentum to keep saving?

Congratulations to @jfang003 and @justclickindiva both with great ideas (see the comments in last Saturday's post) - you both win an SPI!

Okay, everyone who commented last week went into the WheelofNames and the winners are: @riandeuk and @jfang003 - yay!

- Congratulations!

Thank you for taking part in Saturday Savers Club, everyone!

What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 24%.

697 EDS Miner tokens left.

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

saturday_savers_club.jpg

Image by Andy M. from Pixabay I wonder if Jeff would like to take the chicken with him? 😁

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Penny a Day Tracker Sheet

saturday_saver_club.png

Right click on the image, save it to your computer and then print it out.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 12th June, was 11.20p. Next week, we'll be saving 11.69p and by Saturday we'll have saved 144.89p!

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 11.20p buys 35.42 Hive.
Over 335 Hive saved in 24 weeks (253 Hive powered up, the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM)! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 24% on EDS tokens and a little on curating!

@susie-saver has powered this week's savings; she's also been voting following a curation trail, bringing her account to nearly 253HP. She's aiming for 530HP and is 48% of the way there. What's your goal?

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).
  • share this post if you think your followers might be interested.

2. The Golden Pig Tip

saturday savers club.jpg

Image by 3D Animation Production Company from Pixabay

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

Here's this week's Golden Pig Tip:

Last week we talked about setting a budget for food and housekeeping shopping. This week we're going to look at overall budgets. One recommendation is the 50%/30%/20% split: 50% of your income on essential bills; 30% on quality of life and 20% into savings, including pensions.

Would that work for you? With house prices so high, some budgets may look more like this: 70%/20%/10% or even 85%/10%/5%. What do you think - is this a good way to think about how to use your total income?

And today is always a good day to start saving - you can start on Day 1 or make up the first twenty-four weeks to catch up with @susie-saver. Or join our 100 day savings backwards challenge.

That's it for this week. Hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next Saturday with progress so far and our next Golden Pig tip.

Ha, ha, ha. I missed the whole Bezos rocket thing. Gave me a laugh. Great quote. 😂

I got my DCA buy in for Bitcoin on Sunday and then found a couple of my laddering down limit orders were filled on Monday and Tuesday which was nice. So now I'm hoping for another drop in time for a little buy tomorrow.

I'm still investigating if and where I want to stake some BTC and am starting to think about my various tokens here on Hive - whether managing them is worth the time for the return. So a bit all over the place as far as crypto investing is concerned. 😂

Too much dabbling and not enough consolidation going on!

Too much dabbling and not enough consolidation going on!

I hear you! 😁

I've settled down pretty much - mainly SPI, EDS, LBI, CL and LEO and new for me UTOPIS. Have a target for CL, then I'm done and will re-build LEO and keep stacking UTOPIS. Sold most other H-E tokens, just keeping STEM miners and a bit of POB and CTP for now. Most coins haven't really got a plan and fall after a few weeks, so I've started selling them weekly and moving proceeds to my little portfolio.

Had some holiday money left over so bought a little Bitcoin this week, building slowly there, won't get excited. I'm thinking sell 50% of whatever I've accumulated towards the end of the year (if price rises as anticipated) and keep 50% for long-term. Although will re-buy if the price drops in 2022.

I'm still really interested in Hive as an experiment and bought a few more this morning - it's a long time since I bought directly, but very happy with my earnings. Just jahm now to revive 😍.

Gave me a laugh. Great quote. 😂

Me too, only picked it up yesterday!

so I've started selling them weekly and moving proceeds

I need to do this too. I've started selling half my POB instead of staking all of it but I have a log jam in swap.hive. Haven't decided what to do with that yet.

I'm leaning towards signing up at Binance and turning it into BTC.

Maybe I'll wait until after the hardfork and see what the savings returns look like.

Hope you're enjoying this lovely weekend! 😍

#cubdefi would be a great place to start you can stake your BTC there and even accumulate more by staking the cub rewards.

I already have some DEC-BUSD in CubDefi. I doubt I'll put my BTC there though. I want to earn more BTC off it rather than another token.

Well you would earn the two base assets BTC and BUSD plus CUB your LP token position would grow automatically. It is not only earning CUB

I don't have any BUSD though and I don't want to swap BTC to BUSD to get into the kingdom. I've been following along since the beginning and I don't understand enough to manage investments this way. Basically I want to stake it and leave it and not have to worry about impermanent loss etc.

I'm waiting to hear what's going to happen to the DEC-BUSD farm. Khal says all farms will be moved to Kingdoms but I've seen others say in Discord that the DEC-BUSD farm can't be made into a Kingdom.

I just want simple set and forget stuff at this point. 😁

I totally understand if you feel uncomfortable with the DEFI space, no financial advice but cubdefi is worth a risk. They are known faces in our community and have a reputation to keep. You can stake your BTC sell the CUB for BUSD and gradually move into the auto compounding farms, or you just leave it as it is and stake the CUB in the CUB Kingdom :) in this way you keep your BTC and can decide what to do with rewards.

And congrats @jfang003, double trouble once more.

Good one for the golden tip! When it comes down to it I think this is very personal. Depending on where you live, how you live and where your priorities lie. Without going into specifics I feel very, very, very fortunate that we're able to spend way less on essentials and have a big chunk available for savings. Keeping the essentials to a minimum without giving in on quality is really important

I agree, it is very dependent on individual circumstances and even meeting essentials is a challenge for some people. I was always impressed by the approach in the credit unions: first of all it is possible to get a loan with reasonable interest for those essential things; but, in addition, when you pay back the loan, it is structured so that you are also building some savings at the same time, so when the loan is fully repaid, you are in a better position than you were before.

Hmm sounds interesting, but wouldn't it be better to focus on paying of the debt before saving? How does that work?

Was always amazed during college when people mentioned they were saving money in one account while they had debt in their checking account. That's some funny mental accounting going on..

Eventually half the banks will close as a result of reduced usage of cash. Interesting times ahead.

Again congrats to this week's winners.
Like @susie-saver I'm working towards 530HP by the end of month six. Go Susie!!!

Today I'm 80% or 425HP of the journey after a pause due to some family and work related issues.

Now I'm on it again.

Good to see your progress - 80% there! - and loved the posts, thank you for sharing 😍. Sometimes we have to take a break from Hive, there are other things we need to do. Good to be able to make that distinction and great to see you on your Hive journey again.

I had a a rough month investing wise and got a bit overexposed, but it had some good reasons. I bought a whole tract of land in Splinterlands for a bargain, I bought 1.5 million DEC on cubdefi for 1420 BUSD and bought the tract containing 100 plots of land. They now sell on atomic market on the wax blockchain for about 44$ per plot. But I will just hold on, I think in the long term leasing out my land to other players is the better strategy :) Already working on the concepts to make this a nice passive income stream.
I am quite bullish about the game itself and their plans for the future are great!
I also bought a bunch of SL

My Hive continues to grow, mostly on the back of my curation, (voting on things I like). So far for the month of June I have not dropped below 2.0 Hive a day. To me that is a lot of progress, I have always been just a manual voter and a vote as I see it person. I remember back at the beginning of hive an I would only get between 0.5 and 1.0 Hive a day for my votes.

I can not stress enough to the new user leave the auto powered up rewards alone, don't power them down, just use the liquid rewards part to live/play with.

I have been doing a little playing on the POB site, and while I may not be earning a lot, I use those earnings more and more for expansion of my investment. I try to power up 50% so that vote power increase and thus the curation reward increase. The other 50% I sell and reinvest elsewhere. Currently since I want to get to one ETH token I have been converting to Hive and then sending some to Ionomy and buying ETH with it.

Last week I had about 0.020 ETH this week I am up to 0.022 ETH, not a whole lot of growth, but still I creep closer to that 1.0 Eth mark. This pretty much with 25% of my POB earnings.

Being in for the long haul I try not to worry so much about the price of Hive or crypto in general, during the down price times just means I earn more Hive.

It sounds like you are making steady progress, it's good to see how your curation rewards are growing and compounding them is a great idea.

Good to see you diversifying, as well, plus clever use of the other tokens 😍.

Hello @bashadow I too have been increasing my Btc and Eth a little at a time. I'm not even close to where you are, but increasing as often as I can. Doing better with ETH than Btc.

Looks like you are doing very well with your curation.

Take care.

I don't know I just started on trying to gather a little bit of ETH, so far only 0.022, just over $50.00 according to Ionomy, but I figure 25% of what I get on Hive-engine, it would eventually grow, slow but still grow.

I am pretty pleased that I am doing pretty good on my curation earnings. I try to get 12 hours of votes out when I get up in the morning having coffee cruising my feed. Then before bed I shoot for being voted util noon the next day.

I follow a good group of people that post on a pretty regular basis, it also helps I like their content.

Thank you for both the SPI and EDS tokens. I am behind on putting things into my savings for both challenges but I know I have more than enough. One of the reasons why I didn't bother recently was more due to me accidently forgetting a zero and having to do the math on the normal saturday's saver challenge. I will get back to it eventually though.

Hello @eddie-earner and @shanibeer. Here is my Week 24 Saturday Savers Club progress report:

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/week-24-equals-6-months-my-new-motivation-to-complete-the-365-day-money-saving-challenge-or-saturday-savers-club

And a special congratulations to @eddie-earner for the Saturday Savers Club post which had the second highest number of comments for the post on Saturday 5 June on leofinance.io

Congratulations to @riandeuk and @jfang003 for winning the WheelOfNames spin. It was nice to see all the participants in the Comments.

Also @jfang003 is on a roll as one of the winner of the 1 SPI for last week's motivational tips.

It is indeed a learning and sharing experience at the Saturday Savers Club. I wish all the participants awesome portfolios for their investments and savings.

Take care everyone and have a good rest of your weekend.

Yes, I can see that everyone is doing good from the comments. Congratulations on powering up @susie-saver's savings this week.

My Hive HP is growing steadily through regular posting at least 4 - 5 time a week. I look forward to my weekly post payout. I'm closing in on 12K HP.

As far as my overall monthly budget, since retirement, I'm averaging around 60% / 20% / 10% / 10 (investing). I try not to use any of my household expense money to invest.

I've been holding my budget in check for the past 5 years. My crypto investing is not at a level I'd like, but each month I do purchase my agreed upon 10% of my budget. It's not a huge amount to work with by any means. It's just slow and steady.

LOL 😂 @ Jeff Bezos’ rocket 🚀. Some day hive will 🌝. Anyway, congratulations 🥳 to this week’s winners. I didn’t throw a lot of 500 yens in the can this week but that’s just because I haven’t had a lot in my hand. I’m trying to reduce or eliminate unnecessary spending . That has translated in me losing some weight 😀 The five yens that came to
hand are in the pan and the plan rolls on. Be safe wherever you are out there.
