Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Saturday Savers Club with Susie Saver. So much news this week including a new Challenge and the winner of last week's LBI Hot Savings Tip!

Before we start - did you get any Bitcoin this week? Pleased or sorry? And another question for you: which is the best deal - to stake LEO or to invest LEO in CUBLIFE? What's your opinion? Answers in the comments below for the chance to win EDS tokens!

LBI Winner - Hot Savings Tip

We had six hot savings tips last week:

  • bulk buy things you need when the price is low
  • have adequate storage/refrigeration to preserve your food
  • reduce/quit drinking coffee and sugary drinks
  • cut out takeaways and make your own at home
  • grow your own vegetables - even in small spaces.

And this one from @dagger212 about saving time by doing miserable jobs when you're feeling (self-inflicted) miserable. @dagger212 says:

I do have to say, it really is quite pleasing to realize I've completed a task even though I was miserable while doing it. I was miserable anyway. So, might as well get something miserable off my to-do list.

We had another hot tip which is our featured Hot Savings Tip below, and a brilliant idea from @erikah about a side hustle to make money - thanks, @erikah, we'll be using this idea as a prompt for a future challenge!

So, seven people were entered in the Wheel of Names: @erikah, @cwow2, @ericburgoyne, @missaj, @dagger212, @jfang003 and @justclickindiva ... and we have a winner:

Congratulations @justclickindiva - 5 LBI coming your way!

SPI Giveaway - Bitcoin Pizza Day Challenge

Did you know that 22 May is celebrated as Bitcoin Pizza Day? Here's the full story and a pizza making challenge hosted by @akipponn. Well, enter @akipponn's challenge and leave a link to your entry in the comments below for the chance to win SPI. Double bubble!

Now then - this week's EDS winners!

Every week, you have the chance to win EDS tokens for commenting. Last week we had comments from @gillianpearce @ericburgoyne @bearmol @justclickindiva @missaj @jfang003 @chrisparis, @riandeuk, @dagger212, @failingforwards, @cwow2 and @erikah.

Okay, everyone who commented last week went into the WheelofNames and the winners are: @cwow2 and @erikah - yay!

- Congratulations!

Thank you for taking part in Saturday Savers Club, everyone!

What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 22%.

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 22nd May, was 9.73p. Next week, we'll be saving 10.22p (oooh, double digits 🤑) and by Saturday we'll have saved 111.29p!

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 9.73p buys 23.91 Hive.
Nearly 259 Hive saved in 21 weeks! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 22% on EDS tokens and a little on posting and curating!

@susie-saver has powered this week's savings; she's also been voting following a curation trail and started posting using @actifit app, bringing her account to 164.809HP. She's aiming for 500HP and is a quarter of the way there. What's your goal?

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).
  • share this post if you think your followers might be interested.

2. The Golden Pig Tip

saturday savers club.jpg

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

Here's this week's Golden Pig Tip from @jfang003 who wins an extra EDS:

For me, my favorite way of saving is obviously to put down anything that isn't an exact necessity (food and etc) on a list. When I come back a few days later, if I still believe I need it then I buy it. This stops me from any impulse buying anything I don't need because I felt like it that day.

And today is always a good day to start saving - you can start on Day 1 or make up the first twenty-one weeks to catch up with @susie-saver. Or join our 100 day savings backwards challenge 😁.

That's it for this week. Hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next Saturday with progress so far and our next Golden Pig tip.

@eddie-earner content contributed by @silverstackeruk and @shanibeer.
Today's post by @shanibeer writing as @susie-saver.

EDS, @eddie-earner's income token, is part of the SPinvest family including SPI (@spinvest), LBI (@lbi-token) and the @spinvest-leo account - a cool club in the making. Spinvest Family Motto: Get Rich Slowly.

@ jfang003 that is a great tip. I do that for big buys but maybe I should do for small things too because I tend to impulse buy at the supermarket.
Congratulations to the winners.
My 500 yen coin 🪙 savings is steadily increasing. The can feels heavier by the day. Full speed ahead

Me, too - a loaf of bread and some milk always costs me £20 😂.

Good to hear your piggy bank is growing 🙂.

Congratulations to the winners of the LBI and EDS.

I like the different tips we got last week and slowly saving is the best way to accumulate wealth in the future. I blew past my month's goal for HP but I am still decently far away from my years goal. So I can't slack off.

I've had a really fun week buying Bitcoin in the dip, tiny bits at a time that don't cause me any stress so it feels like a game. I'm hoping it will go a bit lower again so I can buy some more tomorrow.

I've also been educating myself about taking out loans against assets which may be something I may consider in future years against crypto. I've also started to research staking options.

All in all it's been a good week. 😊

taking out loans against assets

Looks like you're doing a lot of background work, is that loans against crypto assets?

It certainly was a fun week, cheered me up no end 😂.

loans against crypto assets

Yep. Mainly against Bitcoin some time down the road. I've still to check the UK tax implications, if any.

We should have a conflab - I'm thinking about getting a place in Cyprus for crypto benefits (although I understand Malta is better) 😂.

Hello @eddie-earner and @shanibeer. Here is the weekly report on my Saturday Savers Club progress:

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/week-21-i-could-have-used-the-energizer-bunny-justclickindiva-or-saturday-savers-club

Also, congratulations to @cwow2 and @erikah on winning in the WheelOfNames for this week.

We got some awesome tips from members this week on savings. Thank you all so much. I love the tip by @dagger212. In fact, I just experienced the same issue this week in which I have several offline tasks that needed attention. I've been putting them of for quite some time. I managed to complete one of them. We kept waiting thinking family and friends would come help. Then we thought of hiring others to do it. We finally decided to just DIY. Take it slow and easy. Not a pleasant job, but the sooner the completed it, we could relax and concentrate on other, fun things. Then we laughed at how we had actually contemplated hiring someone to do something we just didn't feel like doing. That's a savings' moment illumination!

Take care everyone and have a good rest of your weekend. See you next week.

Yes, that was a very good tip from @dagger212 - and now you've linked it directly to saving!

Congratulations on your win and another great savings week 😍

Hello @shanibeer We get those moments often in our senior years. For the serious projects that require man power or expertise we don't have, then we'll definitely look for professionals to handle it.

But for the just laziness that occurs when something needs to be taken care of, it's definitely a savings' moment when we analyze it. Then we decide on a course of action. This takes a few days. You know you have to plan for the small things too!

Thank you for taking the time to view my comments and engage. I appreciate it.

to stake LEO or to invest LEO in CUBLIFE?

Why not both?! I stake a bit and delegate most of it to @amr008.leo to support engagement project and receive weekly dividends. But also trying to buy utopis, cublife and eds(m).

Too bad I missed the pizza challenge, would have liked to join that but was away for the weekend, maybe I'll eat pizza tonight hehe xD

Was actually hoping for the saving tips challenge to continue but I'll share another one anyway. It's a variation on @jfang003's tip (nice one by the way) it's the 24-hour rule: whenever I think I want/need to buy something, I take a minimum cooldown time of 24h to decide whether I really need it or want it that bad. This helps a lot for me to stop impulse buying. It's quite the opposite of what marketing wants you to do, who hasn't seen the silly countdown timers for these ONCE IN A LIFETIME! super deals? It's not a strict 100% of the time rule, if I am sure I need it I make an exception. Or if I'm in the shop and already decided I need a certain item, that time then also counts as the cooldown.. or if it would cost a lot of extra time and/or money to decide later, that would be counterproductive. But with most things and especially bigger online buys it's my go-to rule to stop impulse buying.

Like @missaj mentioned it can be hard to stop impulse buying in the supermarket, that's why ordering online can sometimes save money and time, here in Holland we have Picnic and they deliver free of charge with little electric vehicles. Felt like I was being a proper silly and lazy millennial at first, but it makes so much sense now. They bring the groceries to a lot of people in one run so it might actually be better than driving a gas-powered car to get groceries yourself.

If ordering is not an option you could try making a list beforehand and stick with that as much as you can, don't be too hard on yourself but try to be conscious about any impulses you might have.

Hey, thanks for stopping by with your savings tip!

Why not both?

That's is where I got to in the end 🙂. What is the dividend for delegating to @amr008.leo? I must check that and compare to staking and following a curation trail with my own alt account. I was wondering why I am hodling LEO at all, then I remembered that it is a hedge for anticipated airdrops 😂. Meanwhile, I would like it to earn its keep.

Your savings tip is great: nearly all my household (food, cleaning materials etc) goods are delivered now. I try and keep close to the minimum purchase for free delivery and that forces me to choose and not get carried away and buy too much. I also like to support small independent businesses and the majority of my deliveries come from them. Plus I really dislike going into supermarkets, the environment is so unpleasant and it is the same whether it is a high-end or a value supermarket.

the environment is so unpleasant and it is the same whether it is a high-end or a value supermarket

Spot on, most are not enjoyable at all! And good idea to just do the bare minimum for ordering. We try to do a weekly delivery so you get accustomed to ordering certain amounts of stuff and know roughly what is needed. Seems to work well. Supporting the smaller shops is also important indeed, especially these times.

I also like to build my Leo stake to be eligible for airdrops, although I also think you indirectly benefit from being involved with Leo projects like LBI and CL as they grow when there's an airdrop, at least I think you'd see some kind of return that way. Do you happen to know if you still get the airdrop for tokens that have been delegated?

The APR for @amr008's projects varies but he does make a very elaborate post on his main account each Sunday and the divs have been pretty good lately. Here's the latest report:

https://leofinance.io/@amr008/engagement-project-dividends-report-pob-346-8-apr-leo-24-15-ctp-43-16

Not going to complain about 24%+ APR, never mind the POB!
