This is an update for Splinterlands stats for April 2021.

Splinterlands transitioned to the Hive blockchain on June 1st, 2020, and we will be looking at the data starting from this period.
The land presale happened a few months ago and some marketing efforts are on now. Let’s see how things are doing.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Number of games played
  • Number of active daily players
  • Number of active monthly players
  • New Accounts created by Splinterlands
  • DEC burned
  • DEC Price

Number Of Battles Played

Here is the chart of the daily numbers of games played for the period.

image001.png

Splinterlands is hitting more than 100k battles played daily for a while now. There are some spikes in the chart when the number of battles per day exceeded 120k. This usually happen on the last days of the seasons.

Overall, the number of battles per day has been quite steady in the period.

Number Of Active Players

This is one of the most important metrics for every dApp, how many active users have there are. Here is a data for daily active users [DAU] and monthly active users as well [MAU]

image003.png

In the period from June 2020 to February 2021 the number of daily active players has been between 5k and 6k.
In the last period the numbers are up, and it has reached a 7k active players per day.

Next, the chart on the monthly active players.

The up trend can be noticed here as well. In the last two months the number of MAUs is up, reaching almost 11k in April 2021.

New Accounts Created by Splinterlands

Here are the new Hive accounts created by Splinterlands.

image007.png

Quite an increase in the last two months, more than 1700 new accounts created in March, and more than 1300 accounts in April 2021.

Previously we can see the drop from September 2020 to October 2020. In this period Splinterlands introduced a new system for creating accounts, and they are creating accounts only for the active players.

DEC burned

Another interesting metric is DEC burned. DEC is burned when buying potions, orbs, skins and guilds upgrade. The DICE edition is exclusive bought with DEC as well and it is burnt.

Here is the chart for the all time DEC burned vs created.

image009.png

Note the chart is on a logarithmic scale.

The amount of DEC burned is also on the rise in the last period. In March and April the average DEC burned per day was just above one million, or around 1.1M. In the previous period there have been some spikes usually when some new edition or update comes out.

On the DEC created side, just a week ago Splinterlands announced that the daily reward pool for players will be changed from the current setup, starting with 1M and going down 1% each month, to a setup where the reward pool depends on the price of DEC. If it is higher from the 0.001 peg the reward pool is higher and the opposite.

DEC Price

What about the DEC price?
Here is the chart on all time DEC price in dollars [$].

The chart for April 2021, for better visibility.

DEC has been trading very closely to the 0.001 peg in the last period. Actually on few occasions the price has broke the peg on the upside. CubFinance added a DEC pool, that combined with the overall growth in the last two months might cause this.

All the best

Is there an FAQ on how to play splinterlands?

I have checked it out, but can't get my head around all the stats on the cards and what they mean / how it affects the battles.

It always seems that my opponent starts first as well, so I'm always at a disadvantage. Is this normal?

I'm reluctant to purchase the spellbook until I've figured out a bit more about the mechanics of the game.

Hey, did you get any help with this? Speed is the blue number in the bottom left, of each card. It decides which monsters go first.

All good now. I think just playing, playing, and playing was the best course of action. It is relatively simple to pick up and work out what all the stats are for / do.

As well as the Spellbook, I purchased a pack of cards. I managed to get a Legendary Summoner!!! Fire Splinter, with +1 health; +1 target; and blast for all cards.

The summoner was valued at c. $38 so I put it on the market (thinking I could then buy lots more packs). After a day or so with no interest I took it off the market and used it. Wow - was that the best thing I did. It is a kick-(ahem) card and it is one of my most regularly used cards now.

A nice little uptick 7,000 for sure is still low compared to some of these other games so huge room for growth but the project for sure is getting there.
