Very interesting and poignant @erikah, and it makes it sound like there is a ripe opportunity for someone to create a decentralized satellite network that can provide 100% (or close) uptime, no matter where you are.

That would be the theoretical solution, at least. Along with decentralized solar electricity generation in case they decide to deny people access by simply turning the power off.

Actually doing so would require the level of funding and technology Elon Musk and Space-X is applying to the StarLink project... because it would really be best to provide actual viable alternatives, not just an emergency situation patch.
