Island Accounts - Separate From the Community

Over the last few weeks I have noticed many accounts that have no contact with the community and this week decided to leave comments to wake them up. Hive and the tribes is a social blockchain so you need to be communicating with others or you will shrivel up and die. In order to grow you need to go and find others who will support you and that is one reason for commenting on other posts.

There is an art to growing on Hive and like anything that holds any type of value it takes time. Lately I have seen so many new names appearing and posting which is a great sign for the community but when one digs deeper many stop at just that. some have been on Hive 6 months yet the comments they have done can be counted on one hand.

When I first joined Hive the best piece of advice I was given was to go searching for other users with similar interests and comment on their posts. Tribes weren't around then so finding similar interests was not so easy like it is now so there are no excuses. reading and commenting takes hours everyday, but it is the only way to grow your base of followers.

I was thinking why is engagement down if we are getting so many new users as surely it should be up and not down. Something is seriously wrong and when I went looking before I upvoted posts I was a little shocked what I was finding.

A post is only half the job as commenting and supporting others is just as important in order to find users to follow you. Over in the sports tribe which I spend the bulk of my time curating it is becoming more and more obvious why a bulk of users fail to grow.

Why would anyone support another user who has only commented twice in the last two or three months yet keeps posting regularly. Obviously they reckon their posts have to be special or shit hot to find support and are delusional. If you sit in your own blog waiting for others to come to you what chance do you have of succeeding on here.

This is like an island where you stay on your island expecting people to come to you and the chances of that happening are remote. I remember a few large accounts did that on the other chain and they are nowhere now with only their self votes supporting themselves.

This week I have decided to do them a huge favor by commenting on their posts to try and wake them up as some of their articles are interesting. It would be terrible if we lost these users because they had no clue even though it is fairly obvious to most of us. Turning up and expecting to be rewarded just doesn't happen and the sooner many wake up and smell the coffee the better.

I feel if I was doing something wrong I would rather be told so I could correct my behavior and why I am just telling them how it is. I have tried to do it in a couple of posts on the sports tribe, but to be frank they aren't reading anything besides their own posts so commenting on theirs was the only answer.

I must admit I never expected anything when I joined Hive, but deep down hoped someone would vote or even more importantly comment. A comment held more value than a vote in the beginning as it told me someone had read what I had written.

On a positive note every comment I have written so far to the new individuals they have responded and now understand what was said. I am hoping the daily activity of engagement will slowly increase as the obvious may not always be that obvious for many.

Let us know how it goes. I'll be interested to hear if any of the accounts you've commented on keep commenting back. 😊

I am monitoring them and the good sign is they are replying. Lets hope they understand to receive support they need to get involved.

I wholeheartedly agree with this and I also try and comment on things that I find interesting. When I can’t do that I always remember to throw a vote.

We need Hive-twitter or the famous ProjectBlank to make this engagement easier.

Yes we do but it depends how people want to grow their accounts. If you don't read the posts of others then you are going nowhere fast. Project Blank is a totally different mindset and from what I understand rewards will be capped so they aren't abused. We must just wait and see.

I always get a little sad when I see accounts like that who are not engaging with the community. For them at least they have time to change their behavior. The ones that are really bad are the large accounts who have been here for a while and they just don't engage. That makes me even sadder.

Very true about the large accounts as they send the wrong message by giving a bad example and new users just don't understand. Trying to save as many new accounts I see from falling into this trap.
