DCity: Who Moved My Cheese?

Are you familiar with the book "Who Moved My Cheese?" It is a great, extremely short, book about handling change.

In the book, mice are placed in mazes with a piece of cheese in one spot. All the mice in the experiment run around the maze until they find the cheese. Day by day, the scientists put the cheese in the exact same spot, and day by day the mice find the cheese faster and faster until eventually they run straight to the cheese.

Then one day the scientists put the cheese in a new spot. All the mice run to the spot the cheese was. But here is where it gets interesting.

Some of the mice stop when they don't find the cheese and sit and wait for the cheese to come back. But some of the mice quickly go back to the hunt and eventually find their cheese.

The moral of the story is that change is inevitable, and those who are willing to accept the change and move on are the ones who will be rewarded. Those who sit around and wait for things to return to the way they were often miss out.

Dcity had a major update recently and it is visually and functionally very different than the earlier version. I had become very accustomed to the old version and could very quickly do what I needed to do to keep my city balanced and growing.

But now the interface is drastically different. Like in the book, at first I was upset and confused. What are all these new icons? How do I buy and sell on the market place?

I wanted my cheese back where it was!

But I realized it wasn't coming back, and I needed to move on learn the new interface.

I Found The Cheese

It wasn't easy, especially learning how to buy and sell in the market, but now that I've been poking around in the interface for awhile I see there are some big improvements. Hopefully, there will be some good "How To" posts made to help folks transition to the new interface because there are some really good things in there.

Keep Searching

So my advice to the rest of the players out there is don't wait for the old Dcity to come back. It isn't. Accept that, and learn how to get the most out of the new interface and the changes to the game play.

Change happens. Adapt and move on.
