So its official, the date for the airdrop has been released and after weeks of preparation, we're going to finally receive SPS tokens. According to the publication that was released two days ago, the daily airdrop will be entering our wallet ffrom Monday.

I don't think I've seen any post receive this much attention on Hive before and that is a testament to the level of excitement surrounding this news.

One exciting thing about Splinterlands is that it's not just a game on Hive blockchain, it is a company that has spread its tentacles and touched various parts of the crypto space.

It's pretty cool that the team behind the game are also part of the community and play their part in promoting Hive. I mean, simply publishing regularly on Hive and also participating in Hive governance is an important role.

Anyway, in this article, I'll be discussing what you're likely going to experience, as we edge closer to the Splinterlands airdrop in two days' time.

If you use peakmonsters to check the market value of your deck, you'll find that it is at an all-time high or very close to it. Every time you blink, the market value of your assets rises and the airdrop has been a huge factor.

Ever since the news broke that the airdrop will be based on the Splinterlands assets you hold, there has been increased interest in the game. This has led to monumental pumps in the value of everything related to Splinterlands.

out of the lot, I think the most affected has to be the price of DEC. The token has seen it rise far above its imaginary peg of $1=1000DEC. In fact, we're probably around 5X that range now, as 950 DEC is $5.

More battles

This hike in the price of splinterlands assets has also positively affected the number of players of the game. The "play to earn" model is really active now and players could actually make a decent living from the game.

Just as the price of DEC has risen, so has the price of assets that you could receive in your daily quest. So this has led to increased interest in playing, and trading of assets.

Staking fever

I don't know about you but I'm very excited about the potential of staking SPS tokens. I'll be taking my stash of the token to Pancake swap to farm rewards.

I also suspect that there will be a lot of people exchanging their Hive for the SPS token when it is finally airdropped. I also feel like this will bring some level of interest in Hive, since some people will be looking to get in through the Diesel pool on Hive.

In summary

I think the airdrop is going to be the start of something huge on Splinterlands. Despite being one of the most popular blockchain games, it hasn't quite hit the heights you'd expect from a game of its stature.

Thanks to this move, we'll be seeing a lot of interest and massive investment flow into the game. Interestingly, there's still a lot more development to come as the game plans to expand and add extra effects from land, items and stuff like that.

As the game continues to expand, players will have more ways to enjoy the game, as well as earn and invest in the game. Splinterlands has grown from "just a blockchain game" into a platform that will bring immense value to itself, the players, Hive blockchain and the gaming industry at large. It is safe to say that there are exciting times ahead.
