Greetings friends!

Collecting stamps, philately, apart from the financial issue, is an exciting game, no less exciting than modern online games.

Also, this game can be compared with an endless quest, or, a detective investigation, during which, gradually, the links of the chain line up into one whole, you move from simple to complex, you strive to progress in your collection and in the ones obtained during this investigation , knowledge.

Below, you can see another postage stamp issued in the USSR in 1977 from series National icebreaker fleet.

This postage stamp features Icebreaker "Georgiy Sedov".

As you can see, this postage stamp is uncanceled and financially at the top of the quality chain.

It would seem that there could be something valuable and useful?

We saw the icebreaker, that's good, but where's the quest?

Having learned the name of the icebreaker, which is named after the polar explorer Georgy Sedov, we can learn more about this man and will replenish our collection with postage stamps associated with his name. Later, I will show you this postage stamp.

Also, we can find out the events associated with the activities of this brave icebreaker and pick up postage stamps associated with names and events.

For example, the place where the shipyard that gave life to this icebreaker is located, rescue raids, the composition of the ship's crew, tragic and funny events in its history, and in the history of everyone who was, in one way or another, connected with this ship.

Important!

  1. Please note that the cost of shipping postage stamps to other countries can be many times more expensive than the postage stamp itself, approximately $ 5.5.

  2. I see that it is not profitable to purchase one postage stamp if, suddenly, you need to replenish your collection. It is always more profitable to purchase the entire series, and, surplus, to change, or sell.

  3. If you decide to buy a postage stamp online, be careful. sometimes sellers use stock images. But this option is unacceptable. You need to see exactly the product that you are buying.

  4. If you are afraid that the postage stamp sellers will want to deceive you, you are doing the right thing, do not doubt it.

  5. To get started with this hobby, buy a good magnifying glass, tweezers with flat and thin edges and a stockbook for postage stamps, they will come in handy.

  6. When buying postage stamps, pay special attention to the back of the postage stamp. The adhesive layer must not be damaged.

  7. There is such an expression - How many people, so many opinions, this also applies to sellers of postage stamps. Each of them believes that his postage stamp is in perfect condition, but only you yourself can find the perfect postage stamp for yourself.

  8. Sometimes, a small, white scrap of paper with a round stamp on it and a number inscribed in the center circle can be a very valuable postage stamp from the days when postage stamps were not printed.

  9. The cost of a postage stamp is determined by supply and demand, but usually in catalogs you can see the estimated cost of a postage stamp in Pounds Sterling.

  10. In terms of quality, postage stamps can be divided into three groups: used postage stamps that were pasted on and removed from the envelope, canceled postage stamps that were canceled at the post office, by order and sent for sale, and clean, uncanceled postage stamps. As you can imagine, these three types of postage stamps, their conditions, greatly affect their value.

To be continued.

I edited a photo in the program PhotoDirector, which I also installed on my smartphone.

It's good to have a hobby. Russia I believe, has the world's largest fleet of icebreakers, with the US down to just two. I used to go rock hunting as a kid and really enjoyed being out in the wild. Keep collecting! :)

Thank you for your great comment! The fact is that most of the icebreakers are a legacy of tsarist Russia, and the Soviet Union (all union republics), which began to obsess over today's Russia. And, the icebreaker fleet, cannot be considered a merit, the same Russia, after all, most of the icebreakers were built at English and Scottish shipyards, under different names and, as a result, were acquired by Tsarist Russia, or, the USSR. Have a great day!

If the adhesive is undamaged AND there is a cancellation stamp, it's almost worthless as the stamp has been printed and fake stamped just for collectors. This happened a lot in the 60s and 70s as many Eastern European countries were issuing stamps simply for revenue from collectors. Personally I would stay clear as they have no provenance.

Really nice to see someone else posting about philately ! Best wishes

Thank you very much! Even those stamps that have a damaged adhesive layer and have been removed from the envelope have a price. It is low, but at auctions such postage stamps are called - used postage stamps.
Sometimes, their price is very close to the price of canceled postage stamps. And, sometimes, you can find the sales prices of uncanceled stamps and canceled postage stamps very close.
Demand dictates supply) Have a great day!

As a child I have collected some postage stamps but never thought of their value as most of them were removed from envelopes.
However, seeing your collection of icebreakers I think I have the same, if not all, at least some. You make me curious and I have to find where I have tucked them.

Thank you very much! I cannot say that the stamps are from my collection. it is, great value. Not today lol. Perhaps, someday, they will be worth something. But when I started doing philately, postage stamps with a value of either 67, or 97 pounds sterling per postage stamp passed through my hands. It was an accidental purchase, very cheap and a stupid exchange for bright pictures)) in the aftermath.
