Had a productive session with a group of friends about crypto

Yesterday I spent a few hours with a group of friends. They approached me to schedule a session where I can share my knowledge with them on Cryptocurrencies. Like always they wanted to know about Bitcoin. Then I changed the theme to Cryptocurrencies in general instead of Bitcoin. It is quite natural that people outside the crypto world are first used to the world of Bitcoin and then gradually understand that there are other cryptocurrencies as well.

I had a session with them yesterday for a few hours explaining some basic things. As we did not have any concrete topic for the day. I was continuously talking out of my mind. I touch base on so many topics and that also helped me make a note of a few topics to write articles about. I covered some basic things and the opportunities available in the crypto world. Overall it was a very productive session. Not only for them but also for me because I also got a small experience as to how I should be explaining crypto to a newbie.

Binance was the center of attraction

They all did a basic reading on what is cryptocurrency or what is bitcoin all about and why there is a need for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. These are a few things that everyone new to crypto would search online and understand. I started from Binance. Like everyone else, their basic question was around how FIAT can be converted to crypto and how crypto can be converted back to FIAT.

I traversed them through Binance and explained to them what an exchange is all about and how trading can be done there and how one coin can be swapped to another coin or converted to another coin. Of course, withdrawing the coin to real-world and taking FIAT from the real world, and depositing there were also covered as part of the session.

There were also a few people on the call who are getting exposed to these crypto terminologies for the very first time. They found it surprising as well as challenging to understand what this was all about. I explained to them about wallets and how transactions can be done either through a wallet or through trades internally inside an exchange.

Ways in which they can earn crypto

I covered some of the topics explaining different ways in which crypto can be earned. Investing is one part but there are opportunities available to earn cryptocurrencies using different methods.

  • Investment
  • Trading
  • Blogging
  • Development
  • Gaming
  • DeFi
  • Mining
  • Marketing

Above are some of the methods I explained. I also told them that not everyone will have to stick to the trading part alone. Even a nontechnical person can earn cryptocurrencies with the help of their skills. There are many crypto projects looking for marketing individuals. The role of that individual would be to do digital marketing and take the project to many people. This is a simple job someone with no technical background can do and earn some crypto for themselves.

Overall the session was very good and I felt very happy for sharing my knowledge with them and I would be having some frequent sessions with them in the future. I would be glad to bring them to some of the blockchains that I'm active at. Creating more awareness in the FIAT world and bringing more people into the crypto world is indeed good right.

They're coming out of the woodwork now. I have a lot more friends asking me about crypto now than during the bull run of 2017.

Yeah I was initially thinking if it would be a good time to bring them into crypto now. But then I included that disclaimer as well when telling them about crypto.

Its nice to teach them about crypto but honestly I probably would not use Binance because I live in the US. They restrict us quite a bit so I would probably still have to resort to Coinbase for them to buy crypto. As much as I hate centralized Dexes, they are the easiest gateway for any new user.

There is nothing called decentralized dex yet. But I agree with you that things are dangerous with Binance especially after they powered up Steem and brought down the top 20 witnesses. But unfortunately for us, we don't have a better option in India.
