Organizing Your Digital Assets: Crypto Portfolio Tracker

It's all over the place!

I don't know about you but 3+ years after I got into crypto, I realize that my assets are all over the place. They are in different wallets and this was actually the reason why I decided to get a cold Ledger Nano wallet. I thought having the Ledger would enable me to consolidate my holdings there but as you may have presumed, that is not the case.

How often do you check your holdings?

I used to work in the financial services industry and during those years, I have come to see people who invest and forget, while there are some who would track their current valuations every day!

Of course, bonds and equities are a lot different than cryptocurrencies in many ways, especially in terms of volatility hence it is expected that we check our crypto-portfolio every so often.

Here lies my current predicament. Although I have a "watchlist" of coins that I own and those that are of interest to me, there is a certain sense of joy (or sorrow - depends on the market trend) in seeing your actual valuation right?

Crypto Portfolio Tracker

So far, I only have been logging my trades in an excel sheet but that would only let me track the dates and market price. I do not have a total outlook on my whole portfolio. Not that I have thousands of dollars in holdings, but these assets sprinkled all over still add up to a substantial amount.

Last week, @paulag shared her video on how to create a a cypto portfolio tracker on excel. I actually started following this and worked on one but I always got distracted and ended up just downloading the file she shared. However, my excel version isn't compatible with the file and it wouldn't fetch the prices from Coingecko so I just googled for other options (hello, Google, my BFF!😂)

It led me to a few links, the top one being the Coinmarketcap portfolio tracker. I do not have high expectations with this, just that it would show me a snapshot of my holdings and gains/losses.

I reckon there's nothing wrong with trying it out, so I started inputting my holdings one by one.

It is actually going to be a bit tedious especially if you own quite a lot of coins. Moreso, if you would like to see the performance of a specific coin, then you would have to be patient in putting the date/time of transaction so coinmarketcap can capture the correct prices and subsequently, a fairly accurate all-time gains/losses.

Thankfully, I do not have a lot to put! Lol. I mean, there were a few, but it was manageable. What this tracker won't be able to capture though, would be those coins that I have put in interest-yielding accounts. Of course, I do not have the power to manually add that anymore. Likewise, I also didn't put my Hive + HE token holdings, even the recently launched Cub Finance, and some loose dimes in Binance.

Initial Impression:

So far, so good. It gives me what I need to see - a "consolidated" snapshot of my crypto portfolio, in different layouts. It has a pie chart that shows the breakdown of my assets in relation to the total $ value, as well as some stats showing total profit/loss, and best/worst perfoming assets.

Conclusion

Since the Coinmarketcap portfolio tracker is the first and only crypto portfolio tracker I have tried so far, I cannot yet make any comparison with other apps available out there. As I mentioned above, this will not show the full holdings simply because there are some items that I cannot manually enter like interest gained, or Hive earnings. So far, it saves me the time of checking my wallets every so often. The tracker is available in both desktop and mobile apps, so it is pretty much accessible to me anytime I wish to check my holdings.

A portfolio tracker is something that I realized would become a necessity as time and our holdings grow and progress.

How about you? How do you track your crypto portfolio? I'd appreciate your sharing your crypto tracking experiences too!

Com'on! Let's track our wealth! 💰🤑

your first link to the video actually points to this article!

also hi! for the moment most of my assets are in personal wallets that i'm not touching (and i don't really care about the price fluctuation) or on Nexo where it's relatively easy to assess. i suppose now i have Hive assets to consider, hmmm, exciting!

and i love spreadsheets, so i should make one!

Thanks for pointing out! :) I was wondering what happened there, didn;t realize I messed with href. Updated now. :) You can perhaps check out how she made her spreadsheet. It's kinda cool. I wish I could have followed that but I ended up the easy route. lol.

And, Nexo! Oh, I love Nexo too. <3

oh gosh, what timing. 🙈 i had literally opened up a google sheets worksheet yesterday, titled it "crypto assets" and then... i realized it's not as easy as the usual fiat tracking. yeah, they are all over the place and i didn't know where to start. i might try to wing it later and see if i can finally organize a tracking sheet.
