Hello,
now that the weather is better, you can easily go for a walk outside again. You can admire nature but also explore your own city. My city, Munich has a lot of beautiful corners, but also a few monuments that are supposed to remind us of history. The story as it was, with good and bad sides, but also the story from which we should learn.

jetzt, wo das Wetter besser ist, kann man wieder locker draußen spazieren gehen. Man kann die Natur bewundern aber auch die eigene Stadt erkunden. München hat sehr viele schöne Ecken, aber auch ein paar Denkmäler, die uns an die Geschichte erinnern sollen. Die Geschichte so wie diese war, mit guten und schlechten Seiten, aber auch die Geschichte aus dem wir lernen sollen.
One such monument is the von der Weißen Rose at Geschwister Scholl Platz in Munich, in front of the entrance to the LMU University.

The organization distributed leaflets opposed to the Nazi regime and addressing the usual acts. The organization, as falsely promoted in the GDR, was not motivated by communism or socialism, but had a morally Christian background.
Die Organisation verteilte Flugblätter, die gegen das NS-Regime waren und die üblichen Taten ansprachen. Die Organisation, wie fälschlich in der DDR promoviert, war nicht kommunistisch oder sozialistisch motiviert, sondern hatte ein moralisch christlichen Hintergrund.
The memorial consists of various stones that remind of the leaflets. In addition to the leaflets, there is a short description of the members, as well as newspaper articles from the time.
In this picture are Hans Scholl, his sister, Sophie Scholl and Christian Probst, who were executed together on February 22nd, 1943. Yes, the organization only survived 9 months, but it was the one that made the most waves. They wanted to establish contact with the opposition Wehrmacht in Berlin because not all soldiers in the Wehrmacht were in agreement with the Nazi state.

Das Denkmal besteht aus verschiedenen Steine, die an die Flugblätter erinnern. Neben den Flugblätter findet man die kurze Beschreibung der Mitglieder, sowie Zeitungsartikel aus der Zeit.
Auf diesem Bild sind Hans Scholl, seine Schwester, Sophie Scholl und Christian Probst, die gemeinsam am 22.02.1943 hingerichtet worden sind. Ja, die Organisation hatte nur 9 Monate überlebt, war aber die, die am meisten Wellen geschlagen hat. Sie wollten den Kontakt mit der oppositionellen Wehrmacht in Berlin aufnehmen, weil nicht alle Soldaten in der Wehrmacht mit dem NS-Staat einverstanden waren.

In this picture are the student Alexander Schmorell and the professor Kurt Huber who were executed together on July 13th, 1943. Not only students were active in the organization, but also professors. It was an intellectually led organization.
Shortly before the execution, Kurt Huber wrote: "Enjoy yourself with me! I am allowed to die for my fatherland, for a just and more beautiful fatherland that will definitely emerge from this war."

Auf diesem Bild sind der Student Alexander Schmorell und der Professor Kurt Huber die gemeinsam am 13.07.1943 hingerichtet worden sind. Nicht nur Studenten waren in der Organisation tätig, sondern auch Professoren. Es war eine intellektuell geführte Organisation.
Kurz vor der Hinrichtung schrieb Kurt Huber: Freut Euch mit mir! Ich darf für mein Vaterland sterben, für ein gerechtes und schöneres Vaterland, das bestimmt aus diesem Krieg hervorgehen wird.“

The last to be executed was Willi Graf, who was tortured for months by the Gestapo. He, like the others, was murdered by the guillotine.
Als letzter der hingerichtet worden ist, war Willi Graf, der Monate lang gefoltert worden ist von der Gestapo. Er, wie die anderen wurde durch das Fallbeil ermordet.
I think it's one of the most beautiful monuments in Munich. It speaks the story of courageous people who loved their values and fatherland, even after death.
Ich finde, es ist einer der schönsten Denkmäler in München. Es spricht die Geschichte von mutigen Menschen die ihre Werte und Vaterland liebten, sogar nach dem Tode.

Danke für die gute Zusammenfassung und großartige Bilder. Der Preis für die Wahrheit und Freiheit kann das Leben sein; das sollte man nie vergessen.
Klar, Wahrheit und Freiheit können das Leben kosten, aber ist ein Leben ohne Freiheit wertvoll genug um dieses Risiko nicht einzugehen? Eine sehr schwere Frage, die ich zum Beispiel nicht beantworten kann, auch wenn ich in hartem Kommunismus aufgewachsen bin, wo man Null Freiheit hatte. Freiheit braucht Mut!
