An Idea To Help Hive...On A Grassroots Level!

An Idea To Help Hive... On A Grassroots Level!.png

I've been spending a lot of time quietly observing the various Discord communities within Hive...

And there seems to be different ideas on how we should build this chain up to the potential we all believe it has!

From getting rid of the rewards pool and allow second layers to focus on the rewards...To completely abandoning the social media 'brand' that Hive has had since the beginning...All these ideas have their strong points and weak ones as well.

No matter what side of the argument you are on...There is a STRONG passion here from people that do build, and do contribute daily.

And did you see the amazing news yesterday alone....

From @splinterlands partnership with the Brave Browser to the rebrand launch of @exxp There is SO much to be excited for on Hive...

But we need to grow!

So I'm going to throw an idea out there...From this ol' hack of an internet marketer who has been building communities for over a decade now...Maybe this idea has legs, maybe it's shooting blanks, let me know what you think:

Develop a 'Community Team' for Hive

Here's what I mean....

Hive's greatest asset is it's people. It's the community...And one glance into the Koinos Discord today, and you can see how it's 99% Hive members, talking about Koinos...? Nope, talking about Hive.

Look at the Hive Discord and you see hundreds of messages about ideas, and passionate potential solutions for this blockchain to get back on the top of everyone's mind...We have the BEST community on any blockchain.

But what we lack..Severely...Is open communication from the top. A lot of the every day members of Hive, just feel...Under valued.

Yeah yeah, we're decentralized and we are each responsible for Hive's success...I get that, but why not EMBRACE our strongest asset.

Our people!

So....

We have this big fancy DHF that I think we all agree, is being under-utilized. Let's build a team of curators and community members that's sole purpose is to...Support the community on Hive.

This 'team' would be everywhere on the chain. Every niche. Welcoming new creators and Hive members, and supporting those that are contributing to the blockchain.

I thought it would be cool to fund this project with the DHF. Take the HBD funds and power them up every day and get the team to support with upvotes and comments to a multitude of people on Hive every day.

Yes, we need better marketing. Yes we need more users and projects using this chain but here's something I learned in business so long ago....

It's a lot easier to 'sell' to a customer who has already been sold, then to find new customers.

Meaning...Don't forget the people that ARE already here!

Think how excited that Hive member would be when today their content got a nice little upvote from this team. It would be a badge of honor and they would be so excited to receive it. And then if the team left a thoughtful comment or two on their content as well....Wow!

This would drive loyalty on this chain!

And now you have a passionate community of people that feel like they are valued! They feel like they are here for a bigger purpose....And that excitement grows, and it's contagious.

Look, this is not THE answer for everything Hive needs to do, but if we take care of home base first...How much more can we accomplish as a true blockchain community...

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, if I'm out to lunch, if the DHF would or could be used for this....Let me know, let's talk Hive :)

I had a few projects going to help be a welcoming committee for new Hive folks. Unfortunately it fell down the priority list and I couldn’t sustain it. Basically it needs to be a community effort, like you said!

I actually approached the Steemit team years ago with this same idea, but here on Hive...We have the funds to do it. Heck it wouldn't even need that much....

Cut everyone on the team a little bump each week, with a vote or two...I don't know how it wouldn't work...Community feels valued, Hive wins.

I think you have a great idea here Jon as getting folks that are already here fired up will help in many ways. First it will get them to post more on hive and also more it will have them telling there friends how great hive is. I hope this idea takes off.

And it'll build up confidence within the community. Right now, it's pretty low. But it can be fixed.

fantastic idea! Start with your strength and work on your weaknesses. This we have learned in affiliate marketing 😉👍🏼

Communication is important as well! You do it best, Jon! 🙌🏼🙌🏼

So important...And I truly believe in community. That's so important in business especially in affiliate marketing..Well to me at least :)

This could be a great way to support the community and at the same time make the people feel at home. It could also create contests for users or try to feel what the community thinks about certain topics. Great idea!

There should not be anything more important than to make the members we have here, feel valued. And sadly, most do not. We can fix it!

Yeah, that would be really cool. Not sure how but I would like to get on one of these curation trails one day. Creating my content takes a great deal of time and watching it sit there with little interaction can be very disappointing at times. However, I do enjoy creating it, so there is that.

Yeah and that's the problem I see...We have passionate people and creators but very little support for them, in the form of votes and engagement...We can fix it with this.

Yeah, instead of worrying about marketing there should be more focus on retention of current community members. I hate to say i, because I like a lot of what I read and see on Hive, but it comes down to WIFM.

I don't think more rewards will do it Jon. More vision, more business sense, more marketing sure. For years already we've been preparing to scale... up, while reality scaled us down. With exceptions of course, of individual projects that keep growing. But they have vision, business sense, marketing. All three or at least 2 out of 3.

I dunno man, I know a lot of people would be very grateful to see some support come their way. Hive needs to take care of home base!

That's exactly the problem, different people see different ways of governing the chain, not only regarding marketing, rather everything.

I have been vocal about having a discussion around it and making a clear path on how to achieve our main goal. We can all talk shit but it's obvious that if we don't embrace traditional exposure we will continue on being under the radar.

100% agree.

One of Hive's biggest missteps is not embracing content creators that could drive people here.

I am still trying to grasp a basic understanding of the blockchain it is not easy, i will support where i can but i also think this maybe part of the issue to getting more people on hive.

Even with reading the papers, following the hive guide it's a lot.

Thing is people can develop and add more to the blockchain and all that seems sound but if people come and are overwhelmed with loads of complicated processes they may not even try to get involved.

I bet there are loads of accounts created and never used, on top of this being a lot to understand, we have hard forks that are messy from what i hear and i have only experienced the most recent one it was frustrating.

Like it or not we live in a world where people want and need instant gratification as well as the fact most people are super busy with life.

We learn in marketing, keep it simple, don't over complicate things and duplication is key.

I think the whole concept of Hive is amazing but it is not simple, it is complicated and so the duplication is really not there yet in my opinion.

I don't know what the answers are but if people want hive to grow there is so much that has to happen otherwise main stream social media users are not going to come and stick around.

Instead they will just go back to what they know.

Right now if you have been on hive a long while and understand it well enough show what results for your business and can show how much your making, you could kill it selling managed accounts to main stream audiences right now.

There business idea for those in the know LOL

Sorry if this comment was long, just my thoughts and experience so far i agree with working with what there is already.

O man I completely agree.

And if you think it's bad now, you should have seen onboarding a few years ago LOL

We've come a long way, but the truth is...It needs to be a seamless experience. No barrier of entry.

And then stop confusing people with all the mumbo jumbo...Get them using this stuff and experiencing things.

I can imagine @jongolson

I get it and i think it is great i just know right now it is like a developers platform right now and it needs to be like you say more of a seamless experience if it wants to be reaching the masses.

All the mumbo jumbo is not what most people look for in plaforms, they want to be able to easily pop on do there stuff, engage and what not. The masses love social media but they don't give a crap about how they technically work in fact i bet if you did a poll very few would have a clue or care.

I am sure it will get better that way here overtime like you said it's come a long way already just needs to be more.

The Hive Fathers lololol

The great wall of Hive I've heard it been called too.

Very little engagement with the community, but dictate how things go here...

this is a great idea, one thing the steemit team is doing well is encouraging the community with their upvotes; your idea I think would be a good start to incentivize further growth.

Who would this team be? Would they be elected? How do they decide which posts they upvotes etc. These questions have to be tackled.

Yup and it would have to be organized and planned out...Voted on even....If we wanna be decentralized and all.

Very interesting concept! Be the product of our product.... I think this could have some legs in it. Supporting who we already have here on the blockchain is super important & definitely ignites the fire within them to spread the word to others...it's a domino effect ....

So this could be something big. It seems like a lot of people are open to it so it's a matter of getting something concrete everyone can agree on (which serves as a win-win) & go forward...:) Keep those ideas coming, Jon... it will get support. I can see that already... ;) 💚

i agree that sometimes reading some "big" guys i feel that community is a bit undervalued.
the idea is interesting, also would be interesting to have some team that would help new people that want to make (or even better transfer) communities on hive.

They rarely reply to the comments people leave, never come to other people's posts....But are on the most engaged and socially active blockchain online....It's mind blowing.

But I think we (the community of Hive) has the power to change things and help each other. Not sure if this is the answer, but it never hurts to make people feel valued :)

Well said Jon, build the home base and support it, with a strong community behind there is no limit to how much we can grow, I also think my idea that I shared could help with this quite a lot too, keep up your great work.

After reading this post and the associated comments, a question had popped into the mind of this often confused and frequently misguided participant...If the powers that be are so fired up for this to be a decentralized blockchain, why is the DHF so closely guarded by so few people?

Because they control it and give it to those they deem worthy I guess lol

So we move to layer 2 :)

Problem solved!
